Clydebank woman faked pregnancy to extort man out of £6k

Glasgow Times3 days ago
Georgette Ravette, 28, spun a web of lies to the 25-year-old whom she met online.
Ravette claimed that she was later expecting his child and demanded cash to buy her silence or she would tell his mother.
She also asked for £250 to cover her for items during an apparent week-long hospital stay.
Ravette, of Clydebank, threatened that her cousin would 'go mental' and inflict violence if he did not meet her requests.
The man was eventually so frightened for his safety that he eventually called in the police.
Ravette has now pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to extorting a total of £6350 from the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
The pair met on social media app Kik in 2023 and entered into a relationship in April that year.
Ravette and the man had unprotected sex in August 2023.
She claimed days later that she felt "unwell."
Fiscal Amanda Gallagher said: "She told him that she did not have money for a pregnancy test and also asked for cash for new jeans."

The man blocked Ravette but he received a voicemail from her days later.
She told him: "I think you are a coward for blocking me, I am a single mother and I am not going through this again.
"Give me money for a test or help get me a termination."
The man received another voicemail stating: "You better send me money for a termination or a test or I will tell your mum everything."
He then got a message from an unknown number warning him that Ravette was going to visit his mother.
It was also chillingly stated that Ravette knew where he lived as she followed him home one day.
Miss Gallagher said: "After this, the man sent £1000 to Ravette's bank account.
"He asked her to let him know if she needed more and she said that she did want more money.
"Ravette demanded £1000 to buy her silence and he sent it.
"She then messaged him to say she was going to hospital for a week and needed money to purchase items so he sent her £250."
Ravette went on to demand even more cash and claimed her 'cousin' was near the man's home.

He took this as a "threat that someone would come to his door and threaten his family."
Further payments were then stumped up.
Ravette requested another £1000 as her cousin was "about to go mental" but this time the money did not go through.
He got a sinister text from who he reckoned was Ravette's relative which stated: "I know who you are and your family."
The victim was so worried he was willing to hand over more cash, but the transactions were blocked by his bank.
Ravette told him: "I will try and hold my cousin off but if he wanted to do something I won't be able to stop him."
The man contacted the police as he feared for him and his family.
Ravette refused to open the door to officers and was not arrested until a later date.
Brian McGuire, defending, told the court there was an 'unusual background' to the crime which he would go into more at the next calling of the case.
Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Louise Arrol KC who granted Ravette bail meantime.
The sheriff told her: "You can take it from me that I find this extremely disturbing, concerning and a very serious matter."

Glasgow woman made threat to child in 'neighbourhood dispute'

Helen McPherson, 42, of Govan, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court recently after pleading guilty to four charges. She admitted to three charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and to assaulting a man. The court heard that during April 2023, a woman - who we cannot name for legal reasons - had returned to her home on Southcroft Street after walking her dogs. As she got to the common close she saw McPherson leaving with her dog. The two crossed paths without issue. Once the woman was inside the building, McPherson turned and asked her to control her dogs. However, the dogs were on leads, and there was no issue, so she chose to ignore this comment and continue on. McPherson began to issue threats of violence to the woman and her dogs and shouted at her whilst walking towards her with her fist raised. Fearing a perceived attack, the woman turned to face McPherson and walked backwards in an attempt to avoid any harm. McPherson then made her way to the front door before sticking her middle finger up to her and walking away. McPherson mumbled towards them, 'f*****g Polish'. The man put himself between McPherson and his wife, and McPherson began to attack him, striking him on the back multiple times. The couple ran inside and contacted the police. Officers attended and described the pair as visibly distressed. McPherson was arrested. In a third incident on August 17, 2024, a woman and a child left their property at 9pm to walk their dogs. They turned onto Vicarfield Street when they saw McPherson approaching them. McPherson chose to walk between the pair before turning to the child and stating, 'I'll kick you and your dog in the face. "F**k off, I'll get my niece to come and beat you up.' READ NEXT: Clydebank woman faked pregnancy to extort man out of £6k The woman and child felt fearful and alarmed by what McPherson had said, and they contacted police. McPherson was later arrested on September 4, 2024. McPherson's lawyer told Sheriff Joanna McDonald that his client's position was that there was a background with an 'ongoing neighbourhood dispute'. The defence solicitor said: 'Clearly her conduct will no doubt cause you some concern. It's clear she knows fine well that conduct is and was unacceptable on those dates and would have no doubt caused the complainers a great deal of upset. 'You may also be concerned by the report that she can be seen to attempt to pass blame onto the complainers. 'It's her position that there was a background going on. An ongoing neighbourhood dispute. She was merely attempting to provide that it wasn't always just her. 'She does regret her behaviour and has made attempts to contact the housing association in the hopes of moving. 'They don't share a common close. They don't share the same building. There is no issue with non-harassment orders being imposed for both complainers. 'Given what can be described as a lack of victim empathy, she may benefit from supervision to negate any further similar offending.' Sheriff McDonald fined McPherson £420 and tagged her for five months, keeping her indoors between 7pm and 7am.

David Marsh had downloaded the shocking material depicting both male and female children from apps including Snapchat, WhatsApp and Kik messenger over a six year period. Marsh, 60, was also found in possession of several sexualised videos he had received from a vulnerable 12-year-old autistic child after making contact with her over the internet. Marsh pleaded guilty to two offences involving child abuse committed between 2018 and 2024 when he appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday. David Marsh outside Edinburgh Sheriff Court | Alexander Lawrie Prosecutor Matthew Miller told the court police raided Marsh's home after receiving intelligence that a Snapchat account accessing the illicit material had been traced to the property in June last year. The officers were allowed entry by a relative and Marsh was said to have arrived home a short time later at around 8am on August 6 last year. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Mr Miller said 'a number of mobile phones and devices were seized' during the raid and were later found to hold indecent images of children on them. The court was told four mobiles and an electronic tablet contained a total of 2448 images and videos with hundreds rated at Category A - the worst end of the spectrum. The fiscal depute said the total run time of the videos was more than four hours and the material involved the sexual abuse of children aged between two and 15-years-old. Mr Miller told the court officers also discovered Snapchat logs detailing the sexual contact Marsh had with a 12-year-old child who was described as being 'vulnerable' and suffering from autism. Marsh was subsequently found to be in possession of videos of the child engaging in solo sexual activity that she had sent him but he denied sending images of himself back to the victim. Defence agent Steven Donald said he would reserve his mitigation to the sentencing hearing. Sheriff Fergus Thomson agreed to release Marsh on bail and placed him on the sex offenders register on an interim basis. The sheriff also said Marsh's name will be passed on to Scottish Ministers for inclusion on the list of those banned from working with children and vulnerable adults in the future. Marsh pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children at his home between October 7, 2018 and October 6 last year. He also admitted to intentionally causing a child, who had not attained the age of 13, to participate in sexual activity and did request images of her and send them to him between January 3 and October 28, 2021.
