Kaizer Chiefs to axe big names in brutal squad overhaul

Kaizer Chiefs have begun a dramatic squad shake-up, with nine players set to leave the Soweto giants as early as this week. The purge comes in the wake of an internal review, conducted after yet another disappointing 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season.
Chiefs wasted no time, already parting ways with Ranga Chivaviro and Sabelo Radebe. The duo failed to impress, with Radebe returning from a fruitless loan spell at Richards Bay before being let go by the club. Despite coming through the academy ranks, he never cemented his place in the senior team.
Njabulo Blom, who had returned on loan from St. Louis City SC, is heading back to the USA after struggling for game time. His departure adds to the growing list of players Chiefs are offloading.
This publication previously revealed that Edmilson Dove will also exit Naturena when his contract ends in June. Chiefs have shown no interest in renewing the Mozambican international's deal.
Another big name under review is Reeve Frosler, whose contract is also set to expire. However, reports suggest that the pacey fullback may still have a future at the club, with negotiations said to be ongoing.
The future of club captain Yusuf Maart had looked uncertain, especially after receiving heavy criticism from fans throughout the season. But he silenced doubters in spectacular fashion, scoring the winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final.
Meanwhile, Edson Castillo, George Matlou, and Mduduzi Shabalala all face uncertain futures with their contracts expiring. Castillo's season was marred by injury, while Shabalala, who made a strong start to the past season, is expected to stay.
With major continental ambitions on the horizon, the club must act decisively. A source that spoke to a publication called Sportswire said , 'These players are not good enough.' Chiefs know they must invest in quality reinforcements, especially with their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup secured thanks to their Nedbank Cup success.
Who should Kaizer Chiefs release before the start of the new season?

But now the connection is not so much from a family perspective. Rulani Mokwena and the Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza.
