He hadn't flown the plane recently, he doesn't much anymore, but now it wasn't where he left it and no one knew why or who stole it, according to the Independent report.
After asking around, Hong learned someone had been flying his plane across Southern California, that too, not once, but at least twice, as per the report.

The Missing Plane Reappears with Trash Left Behind
He reported it missing and waited. Then came a call from the La Verne Police Department as the plane had been found at
Brackett Field Airport
, about 25 miles northeast of Corona Municipal Airport, as reported by the Independent.
When he got there, Hong found his aircraft intact, no real damage, just garbage and cigarette butts left in the cockpit, as per the report.
Battery Removed to Stop the Joyrider, But It Didn't Work
He pulled out the battery to prevent any further joyrides for the theif, and then he made plans to return the following weekend to clean it up and check it over if whoever snatched his plane had not damaged the aircraft, according to the Independent report.
But when he returned on August 3 to the airport to start working on his plane, the plane was gone missing again, as per the report.
After he reported about his missing plane, this time, the El Monte Police Department called because the plane had been found at San Gabriel Valley Airport, 18 miles from west of Brackett Field Airport, according to the Independent report.
When he went to the airport to find his plane, he saw that whoever took it had installed a new battery, as per the report.

Police Say Plane Theft is Extremely Rare
Sergeant Robert Montanez of the Corona Police Department pointed out that the whole situation is unusual, saying that the plane "keeps disappearing out of the blue," as quoted by the Independent.
Since people don't usually steal planes and is so rare that the Corona Police Department had to give Hong paperwork meant for stolen cars to make his report about his missing jet, as per the report.
No Surveillance, No Suspects, No Leads
Montanez said that unfortunately for police and Hong, there's no surveillance video available that captured images of the theif pilot, and "no real leads," as quoted by the Independent.
According to the report, Hong used Flight Aware to track recent flights and saw that the plane flew twice on his birthday, including one flight that left at 1:30 am, according to the report.
Whoever's Flying It, Knows What They're Doing
Hong assumed based on the number of flights and the times at which the pilot was traveling that whoever is flying his plane has flight training, as "landing is not easy," as quoted by the Independent.
The mystery pilot reportedly also knows how to maintain a plane as Hong pointed out that in order to change the battery, the pilot would have to have both the tools and the knowledge needed to complete the job, according to the report.
He also estimated that along with a new battery, the tools needed to do the repair, and a new headset he found inside the cockpit, theif would have mostly spent hundreds of dollars just to keep his old Cessna in the sky, as reported by the Independent.
The 75 year old said, "Someone breaks into your house, they're looking for jewelry or cash right?" adding, "But in this case, what's the purpose? It's like someone breaks my window, and then they put a new one up," as quoted in the report.
Plane Now Chained and Grounded, But the Mystery Remains
However, Hong has now chained his airplane at the San Gabriel Valley Airport and will not be flying it until he can get an inspection done on the plane and even though, for now, his plane is likely secured, but Hong is no closer to learning who keeps taking his plane and why, as reported by The Independent.

So far, 25 people, including five doctors, have been arrested in connection with nine cases registered at the Gopalapuram police station. These arrests are linked to an alleged inter-state racket. Another case was filed by a 90-year-old gynaecologist, Suri Srimathi, who said her name had been illegally used on the centre's letterhead to carry out illegal activities . Live Events The victim couples alleged that they had first approached the centre for IVF treatment . As quoted by TOI, they said Dr Namratha convinced them to choose surrogacy instead, charging more than Rs 30 lakh for 'guaranteed babies'. The couples were never told who the surrogate mothers were. In one case, a couple was told their surrogate child had died at birth, while DNA tests in two other cases did not match the babies given to the clients. North Zone DCP Rashmi S Perumal said, as reported by TOI, that Dr Namratha ran a network of clinics in Secunderabad, Kondapur, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata. The alleged method was to attract couples through IVF, then persuade them to switch to surrogacy, promising to handle all legal work. Agents reportedly convinced financially struggling women to sell their babies, paying Rs 3.5 lakh for a girl and Rs 4.5 lakh for a boy. Victims were charged Rs 30–40 lakh. The DCP added, as quoted by TOI, that the accused faked DNA and medical reports by using the biological mother's DNA in place of the client's. The arrested include Dr Namratha; her son PSS Jayanth Krishna; doctors from Visakhapatnam and Gandhi Hospital; embryologists; branch managers; nurses; agents; and three parents who allegedly agreed to the illegal sale of their children. Police have seized about 50 files from the centre's offices and are checking them for more possible victims. Bank accounts linked to the accused have been frozen. According to police, Dr Namratha was previously involved in 15 criminal cases across Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur. Some were settled, while others are still in court. 'We have invoked provisions of Organised Crime under the BNS against the accused. The SIT will now take over the investigation,' the DCP said, as reported by TOI. Inputs from TOI

Courier steals 3cr gold in 3 days of work

Mumbai: Just three days after his appointment, a delivery boy was arrested for stealing 17 bags of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.9 crore which he had collected from various jewellery shops in South Mumbai to deliver to their clients. Vile Parle police apprehended the accused, Mehul Garg (24), from his home in Udaipur on Tuesday while he was in possession of the valuables. "He perpetrated the theft out of greed and to quickly earn money after obtaining knowledge about the parcel details posted by his employer on a WhatsApp group, of which he was also a member, requiring him to collect and deliver consignments," said police. Case was filed against Garg on Aug 7, a day after his employer, Sahil Kothari (29), searched for him and gathered information about the consignments he had collected from various jewellers at Zaveri Bazar on Aug 5 before fleeing Mumbai later that evening. Shimla: After two days of police custody, the Shimla district court on Wednesday sent Sumit Sood, arrested on charges of kidnapping three students of a prominent boarding school in Shimla on Aug 9, to judicial custody. Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, meanwhile, has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) headed by DSP headquarters Vijay Kumar to carry out further investigation to take the case to a logical conclusion. "In case we require the accused's custody for investigation, we will approach the court again," said Gandhi. The district police chief said the police had also solved the mystery about the virtual private network (VPN) number of California by identifying the 'Sinch platform' and investigating all the call data. The accused made calls from this VPN number to the students' parents warning them that their kids were being held captive by very dangerous people, he added. Gandhi said as the arrested accused was claiming the involvement of Nigerians in the kidnapping case. Though it is his self-concocted theory, still the SIT will investigate all the angles in the case, including the digital evidence, as six-seven mobile phones and a laptop were also recovered from his custody, he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Your Way to Amazing Rewards Vantage Markets IN Register Undo The police team on Tuesday took the arrested accused to the spot to recreate the crime scene.
