The Miami True North Classical baseball team made history by defeating Miami Westminster Christian 5-1 to win the District 15-2A Championship.
It marked the first time the Titans won districts in baseball.
True North scored in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Misael Uriepero. Westminster tied it in the top of the second.
The Titans (17-7) took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Matias Fischer singled, scoring two runs, to give the Titans a 3-1 advantage. True North added insurance by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Starting pitcher William Foss, a junior, earned the win for True North, allowing only three hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings. He also walked three and struck out four. Pitcher Yancarlos Cordova tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to seal the victory.
Pitcher Aaron Hernandez started on the mound for Westminster Christian (15-10-1). The southpaw surrendered 12 hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.
Offensively, Fischer led the Titans, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kash Ojeda, Max Balsera and Brandon Castellon each also collected two hits. Defensively, True North did not make an error.
The Titans advance to the 2A regional quarterfinals.

5 best Trey Hendrickson trade landing spots from Cincinnati Bengals
Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals are at an impasse. The NFL's reigning sacks leader wants a contract extension and a raise that recognizes him as one of the best pass-rushers in the league. Meanwhile, the Bengals would much prefer their four-time Pro Bowler play out the rest of his contract, where he's set to have an $18.6 million cap hit in 2025, the final year of his deal. Recently, this situation has taken a turn for the worse, with Hendrickson taking his private spat with the Bengals public. Advertisement Now it's gotten to the point where some are wondering if a trade is inevitable. Yet, if the Bengals are still open to the idea of trading the All-Pro sack master, which teams should get involved? Related: NFL insider claims Cincinnati Bengals won't give Hendrickson specific contract ask they gave to Burrow and Chase Tennessee Titans Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images Believing that they're Super Bowl contenders, the Bengals likely don't want to trade Hendrickson. But if they do, it probably won't be to a fellow AFC contender. However, what if a team like the Tennessee Titans swoops in with an offer too good to refuse? The Bengals may not have an issue trading their star defender to a team that just finished with the No. 1 pick, especially if the offer is strong. Carolina Panthers Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images After allowing the most points in NFL history in 2024, the Panthers can't get too relaxed after addressing key needs over the offseason. Plus, they recently released Jadeveon Clowney. Could it have been a precursor to an even bigger move, like trading for Hendrickson? Advertisement Related: NFL teams that have never won a Super Bowl Green Bay Packers Credit: Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Armed with young players that already make this team a playoff contender, how about adding an elite chip that helps narrow the gap between the Packers and the rest of the NFC North? Hendrickson would give the Packers a player that every offense has to account for on any given snap. He'd make the entire unit better. Related: Predicting NFL playoff teams and Super Bowl 2026 winner Detroit Lions Credit: Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Still seeking a long-term pass-rusher to pair opposite Aidan Hutchinson, how about one who's already a proven superstar? If the Lions could get Hendrickson while only having to part with a 2026 second-round pick and change, wouldn't that make them one of this season's strongest Super Bowl contenders? Book'em Danno Wins True North With Late Surge
Book'em Danno Wins True North With Late Surge originally appeared on Paulick Report. Atlantic Six Racing's Book'em Danno showed strong closing ability to register a pair of stakes wins as a sophomore and utilized a similar tactic Saturday to notch his first stakes score as a 4-year-old, running down Mullikin in deep stretch with a strong outside move to capture the Grade 3, $400,000 True North on Belmont Stakes Day at Saratoga Race Course. Advertisement The Derek Ryan-trained Book'em Danno, who ran a competitive fourth in the tightly contested Grade 1 Churchill Downs in May last out, continued a run of success at the Spa that includes a victory in last year's Grade 1 Woody Stephens. He earned a victory for the second consecutive Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, with jockey Paco Lopez keeping him off Concrete Glory's early speed in leading the seven-horse field through an opening quarter-mile in 22.21 seconds and the half in 44.72 over the sloppy and sealed main track. WinStar Farm's Mullikin, winner of the Grade 1 Forego in his last Saratoga start in August, was urged up by rider Flavien Prat to take command entering the stretch. When straightened for home, Lopez set down Book'em Danno and gave strong right-handed encouragement with plenty of daylight to the outside. The duo linked up in a thrilling final furlong duel, with Book'em Danno pulling ahead near the wire to register the victory by 1 1/4 lengths in recording a 1:14.64 final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs for older runners. Mullikin, a multiple graded stakes winner for trainer Rodolphe Brisset, finished 2 3/4- lengths clear of Crazy Mason for runner-up honors. Nutella Fella was a nose better than mutuel favorite Nakatomi, who tossed his head at the start and spotted the field five lengths. Surveillance and Concrete Glory completed the order of finish, while Full Moon Madness scratched. Advertisement Book'em Danno won for the eighth time in 14 starts and added to his millionaire status by increasing his career bankroll to $1.36 million. The Bucchero gelding, bred in New Jersey by Gregory J. Kilka and Bright View Farm from the Ghostzapper mare Adorabella, returned $6.60 on a $2 win bet. 'He's had some bad luck in his races where he got beat a head and a neck, but I really wasn't afraid of anybody today,' Ryan said. 'The six [furlongs] is a little short for him; six and a half, seven is his trip. Paco gave him a great ride. He loves to be on the outside. I've been preaching that for the last year, and I finally got someone who will do it for me. So, I was very happy. I said, 'Sit third, but make sure you're on the outside.' 'He'll run on anything,' Ryan added. 'Good horses, they said they'll run on a tin roof. He's just a good horse.' Book'em Danno earned a career-best 104 Beyer in August at Saratoga last summer via a third-place finish in the seven-furlong Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial, defeated 1 1/4 lengths by Domestic Product. On Saturday, Book'em Danno garnered a winner's circle trip on one of racing's most prestigious days. Advertisement 'It was a great, great effort.,' Ryan said. 'He [Lopez] rode him perfect, just like I wanted, sit on the outside, sit off the pace, and turning for home go get 'em. I couldn't have gotten a better ride, and Paco's riding like a demon right now. It's unbelievable, as good as he's riding. He came up [to Monmouth Park] one Sunday, took the day off and came up and worked [Book'em Danno]. He rode his sister, and he worked him as a 2-year-old but he's been out of town. He's been driving me crazy to ride this horse ever since. It's working out.' Ryan said he is unsure of the next target yet but was appreciative of what Book'em Danno has done for his career. 'I would be retired and be in Saudi Arabia if it wasn't for this horse,' Ryan said. 'I was ready to take a job out there. But, then he came along, and it all worked out.' Mullikin, one of four Saratoga Grade 1-winning entrants, has finished on the board in seven of his last eight starts, including second in the Grade 2 Cigar Mile presented by TwinSpires at Aqueduct to cap his 4-year-old year one start after running third in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint in November at Del Mar. Advertisement 'I had a good trip today, just second best,' Prat said. Crazy Mason, ridden by Manny Franco for trainer Gregory Sacco, again earned black type after winning the Grade 2 Carter presented by NYRA Bets last out in April at the Big A. This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Jun 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

'Not coming back': Selwyn Cobbo cops massive new blow after Broncos axing
Selwyn Cobbo might be hard-pressed getting back into the Broncos' first-grade team anytime soon after Josiah Karapani bagged a double and looked very strong on Saturday night. Karapani scored two of Brisbane's eight tries as the Broncos bounced back to form with a 44-14 thrashing of the Titans. Starting in place of the axed Cobbo, Karapani had 15 runs for 176 metres, as well as three tackle breaks and two line breaks. The 23-year-old, who'd only played 11 games in first grade before Saturday night, doubled his career try tally and looked every bit an NRL player. He vindicated coach Michael Maguire's decision to bring him in to replace Cobbo, after also getting the nod over regular first-grader Deine Mariner. Cobbo was spotted at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, and helped the team run through their warmup drills. He appeared to be in good spirits, and reportedly took his demotion well. Maguire explained the decision to dump him to reserve grade on Friday, saying: "As a group, and as a leadership group and as a coach, we're pushing standards here and expectations in how we're doing things, and Karapani's got his opportunity and Selly's got to look at a few things in his game. "(Karapani) has been really consistent in the way he's been playing through the pre -season ... and he's obviously experienced first grade. When he has played, he's played really well. I know he'll do a good job." Maguire refused to divulge on the areas of Cobbo's game he wants to see improved, but said he "definitely" could force his way back into the side. "I'm here to coach the team. We're creating standards and ... the more you meet those, the more opportunities you have," Maguire said. Complicating the situation with Cobbo is the fact he's off-contract at the end of 2025. According to reports, the Broncos haven't tabled him a formal offer and have prioritised the re-signing of centre Kotoni Staggs. With Gehamat Shibasaki and Jesse Arthars proving themselves as genuine first-graders, and Grant Anderson set to join the Broncos from Melbourne in 2026, it's looking increasingly likely that Cobbo will depart. If the Broncos choose to keep Cobbo, it'll likely be a one-year extension that would allow him to chase the riches on offer at expansion teams Perth or PNG from 2027. RELATED: Fresh blow for Panthers as four-time premiership winner retires 'Shouldn't be involved': Wayne Bennett hit with ban by NRL On Saturday night, fans were quick to point out the tricky task that Cobbo faces in getting back into the team considering Karapani's performance. Unless there's an injury or Reece Walsh is called up for State of Origin duty for Queensland, Cobbo is set for a decent stint in Queensland Cup. One person wrote on social media: "When the media chimed up and slated Madge from dropping Cobbo, you just knew Karapani would salute. He did. Brilliant." Another wrote: "Karapani has got to retain his position after tonight. I like him a lot more than Cobbo on that wing." While a third added: "Cobbo aint coming back into this side anytime soon. Just the response we needed. Karapani has stood up." Karapani has got to retain his position after tonight.
