Raiders top 5 biggest need positions heading into 2025 NFL Draft
Hard to believe it, but we are approaching two weeks until the start of the 2025 NFL Draft. With that in mind, let's take a look at the most pressing needs the Raiders should be looking to address in the draft.
1. Running back
They added Raheem Mostert, but he is not a workhorse back. He is more of a change-of-pace back. Sincere McCormick proved he could be a nice piece out of the backfield, but a bonafide starting running back would really help to get the running game where Pete Carroll wants it to be. They very well could address this position in the first two rounds, but should they wait longer, it would be only due to the depth at the position.
2. Wide receiver
No Davante Adams replacement has been signed to the team. They could still add one of the remaining free agent wide receivers, but that will be a temporary fix. What they need is a number one, preferably an X receiver, but they could also use a slot target. So, yeah, needing help at two receiver spots makes this a position they also need to address with one of their top two picks.
3. Cornerback
Nate Hobbs is gone and they have no one to replace him at nickel. They are also parting ways with Jack Jones and replacing his starting job with Eric Stokes, who comes over on a one-year deal. So, basically they have Stokes and Jakorian Bennett on each side and that's it. That means they need a starting nickel, depth, and a long term answer at the position. And being that cornerback is a premium position, getting one high in this draft could be in the cards, depending on who is on the board when.
4. Offensive line
This doesn't differentiate between interior or tackle because overall depth and competition is needed at guard and tackle. Ideally they would be able to get a versatile tackle/guard, preferably in the mid-rounds. That aforementioned running plans is gonna need all the big maulers it can get.
5. Linebacker
Gone are Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo. Replacing them are veterans Elandon Roberts and Devin White. Both are on one-year deals. And neither currently has any expected competition for their jobs. Pete Carroll likes young competition. White's play these days in particular is a long way from his Pro Bowl season of 2021. So, while he has John Spytek in his corner from their Bucs days, he will still have to prove he deserves to keep that job. Adding a mid-round linebacker to push for it would be ideal.

Bengals, Trey Hendrickson reportedly resume contract negotiations after edge rusher skipped minicamp

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson skipped the Cincinnati Bengals' minicamp this past week amid a contract dispute. The eight-year veteran is looking for an extension with his contract set to expire after this season. Hendrickson, 30, is set to be paid a base salary of $15.8 million but insists that he will not play this season under his current deal. He's seeking a long-term agreement that would put him among the NFL's highest-paid pass rushers. Advertisement However, not attending minicamp may have moved the negotiation process forward. Hendrickson and the Bengals have resumed discussions on a new contract, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports. How much of a gap exists between the two sides has not been reported. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is currently the league's highest-paid pass-rusher after agreeing in March to a four-year extension that pays him an average annual salary of $40 million. Hendrickson's teammate Ja'Marr Chase is the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback with a new contract that will pay him $40.25 million per season. Hendrickson isn't the only pass rusher looking for a new contract. Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons and Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt are also looking to top the pay scale at their position. One major issue is that neither player likely wants to be the first to sign, possibly reset the market and then watch a peer overtake him as the NFL's highest-paid pass rusher. Advertisement The Bengals' defensive end has registered 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons. That total led the NFL last season. (He finished behind Watt's 19 sacks in 2023.) Subsequently, Hendrickson was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, earned first-team All-Pro honors and finished as runner-up in NFL defensive player of the year voting. Hendrickson has 77 sacks in his eight NFL seasons, averaging 13 over the past three years. Only Garrett has more during that span. He also has 220 tackles and 77 tackles for loss for his career. Cincinnati is also in a contract dispute with rookie Shemar Stewart, one of four first-round selections who have not reached an agreement with their respective teams. As a result, he left minicamp last Thursday.

Houston Texans' most impactful 2025 offseason move

Houston Texans' most impactful 2025 offseason move The Houston Texans had an impactful offseason, which has the back-to-back AFC South winners in position to be successful for the long-term future. Despite winning 20 games with Bobby Slowik as the offensive coordinator, Houston knew it needed a chance after losing back-to-back divisional round matchups. DeMeco Ryans fired his former colleague this offseason and landed Los Angeles Rams' pass-game coordinator Nick Caley to serve as a first-time play-caller. While Caley might not have been an offensive coordinator before, his energy, spark and attentiveness have won over multiple Texans' players. Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins called Caley a 'pro' while C.J. Stroud said his new OC has 'laid back personality' but cares about the little details. CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan named the best offseason move by each AFC team, and while Houston had some impactful additions, nothing else came close to the hiring of Caley as offensive coordinator. "The Texans were busy this offseason, reshaping their offensive line and adding a number of new faces to the receiver room. However, the best addition they made came on the coaching staff with the hiring of Nick Caley as their newest offensive coordinator," Sullivan wrote. "After Bobby Slowik fizzled, Caley comes to town with a tremendous résumé. The 42-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams under Sean McVay, serving as the tight ends coach and passing game coordinator. Before that, Caley rose through the NFL ranks working under Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots, winning two Super Bowls in the process. His arrival should help turn the tide of a Texans offense that stalled out far too many times last season." Make no mistake, Caley was brought to Houston to elevate Stroud's persona and creatre a more dynamic passing attack after a woeful finish in 2024. He's also tasked with turning around an offensive line that allowed 54 sacks, including 52 against a quarterback with a sophomore slump. It's only the offseason, but Caley's impact is already being felt in the locker room, and the hope is the results on the field follow suit with more than 10 wins and a division tilte this fall.

Tennessee Titans' supporting cast ranked among NFL's worst

Tennessee Titans' supporting cast ranked among NFL's worst Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Bogonzi was tasked with rebuilding an organization that has struggled to remain relevant. Since moving to Tennessee from Houston, the Titans have made 10 postseason appearances, including a Super Bowl appearance in 1999 when they lost to the St. Louis Rams. Borgonzi is the next guy tabbed to take this franchise to the next level, but first, the rebuild. To that end, the Titans made many impactful moves during the offseason. They bolstered the offensive line during free agency and added other offensive weapons through the 2025 NFL draft. One of those weapons is Cam Ward, the rookie standout from Miami who is expected to start for the Titans in Week 1. But how did Borgonzi do with Ward's supporting cast? FOX Sports ranks the Titans' supporting cast near the bottom of the league at 29th overall. It feels like a big deal that Cam Ward is going to start his NFL career behind an offensive line that should give him a chance. Maybe the Titans overpaid for a couple pieces there, but it still looks like it's going to be a much better unit than what you'd expect from the team picking first in the draft. Calvin Ridley is still a solid enough receiver, and Tony Pollard still managed 1,000 yards on last year's terrible team. The options behind them aren't as exciting, but you've got to admit this isn't an awful starting point. It's interesting that with such a low ranking, there wasn't much negative to say about the Titans' offensive weapons. There are no big names outside of Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, but they are all very capable players. Rookies Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Xavier Restrepo are already turning heads, and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or more of them take a starting spot before the season ends. Add to that the lack of talk about Tyjae Spears and what he brings to the table, that he held down the ground game while Tony Pollard battled injury in 2024. He has his own injury issues, but he's a multi-faceted player who can be used to disguise plays of all kinds. So, while FOX Sports ranks the Titans' supporting cast near the bottom of the league, it's mostly because it's an untested group in a new regime. How they perform this season will show us where things truly stand.
