2025 NFL Odds: Bettors Backing Cowboys In Week 1 Matchup Against Eagles

NFL Week 1 is less than two months away, and bettors are ready for some football.
And they're especially ready for the very first matchup of the season — Cowboys at Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4.
Philadelphia and Dallas have each won two of the last four NFC East titles.
Dallas comes into this game after notching a disappointing 7-10 record in 2024 and missing the playoffs.
The Eagles, on the other hand, dominated the Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl to cap off an impressive 2024 campaign.
Currently, the Cowboys are 7-point underdogs.
So which side is the public on?
At BetMGM, Dallas +7 is the most-bet team in tickets for Week 1. Additionally, the Cowboys +7 are the second-most-bet team in handle.
And the most-bet Week 1 underdog on the moneyline?
You guessed it — it's Cowboys +260 (tickets).
Also at the BetMGM, in tickets, this matchup is the most-bet game of the entire opening-week slate and the point total is the second-most-bet in Overs.

Point spread: Eagles -7 (Eagles favored to win by more than 7 points, otherwise Cowboys cover)

According to FOX Sports NFL writer Henry McKenna, the answer is no.
"The 2025 season won't get off to a fun start for Dallas," McKenna noted. "This game will probably be closer than folks expect, given Philly's Super Bowl hangover.
"But at this point in the season, the Eagles are just going to be too dominant with their run game to let this game slip between their fingers."
FOX Sports NFL writer Ralph Vacchiano echoed a similar sentiment.
"The Eagles humiliated Dallas twice last season by a combined score of 75-13," Vacchiano wrote. "Also, defending champs are 13-5 in these stand-alone, Thursday night openers.

"It's hard to imagine Philly stumbling out of the gate in a division game."

'We was like, 'Man, we spend a lot of money for these hotels, all of these women,' ' Irvin recalls. 'So then we said, 'Let's do a house.' ' There were not only women but drugs and plenty of alcohol as well, and while Irvin took his fill of all the dobouchy, a lot of his teammates missed Johnson because, unlike head coach Barry Switzer, who took over for Johnson that '95 season, he knew how to keep players like Irvin in line. Former safety James Washington recalls about Switzer: 'A lot of guys liked him because now the guys felt like they had freedom. Barry came into that locker room, the dynamic, the accountability, the work ethic — that had changed.' Switzer didn't think the players off the off-field activities were none of his business. He explained his philosophy when it came to his players. 'Those guys live on the edge,' the now-87-year-old says in the series. '[They're] supposed to be adult men, married, most of 'em. You know, really it was none of our business; they're adults.' Neither Troy Aikman nor Emmitt Smith liked that philosophy, and they've expressed how they felt about Switzer's handling of the team over the years. Especially, Aikman, who was not a fan of Switzer. 'It was a stark contrast to anything that had happened in the first five years,' Aikman recalls, while Johnson was head coach. 'I just remember thinking things are different, going forward.'

He noted that it's been some time since the two sides spoke of an extension, and that things have crossed the line from business to personal. "You can't get a deal done if you're not even talking," Schefter said. "The two sides haven't had any negotiations since late March or early April. It sounds like at this point it's personal. It sounds like each side is dug in." Schefter mentioned that players have been able to overcome ugly feuds with management in the past. However, he feels that things between Parsons and the Cowboys cannot be fixed. "I see these two sides headed towards divorce in time," he continued. "The only question is when is that divorce going to happen and how is it gonna happen. Are they gonna trade him now, trade him after this year, or move on when." The network has decided to debut its new, sleek scorebug during the Week 2 preseason game. NFL fans, unsurprisingly, have a lot of thoughts on the scorebug. NFL fans have quickly taken to social media to weigh in on the new scorebug from Fox Sports, which debuted on Sunday evening. FOX first unveiled its new scorebug during Super Bowl 59 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles back in February. At the time, fans took issue with the scorebug, as no one likes big change. The new scorebug has been tweaked a bit heading into the regular season, with the network unveiling the new version on Sunday night. "Fox officially tweaks the NFL scorebug they debuted at the Super Bowl, most notably replacing the team abbreviations with team logos," Sports TV News & Updates shared on X. NFL fans have a unanimous opinion on the scorebug It's safe to say that NFL fans hate the new scorebug with a passion. "My conclusion here is that the idea of going minimalist is an interesting one that I think could look really cool if you do it right. I just don't think they did it right. The fonts are too thick and bold and the down/distance with the play clock hovering over the logo and score, I just don't agree with how they did this. When they first went minimalist back in 2017 I wasn't a big fan but I learned to appreciate the look over the years. Hopefully this is another acquired taste," one fan wrote. "Not to be that guy but Fox's newscorebug might be the worst in sports history," one fan added. "The FOX scorebug tweak is a major improvement from the Super Bowl!
