G57 slams DAP Youth for defending activist Fahmi

Kota Kinabalu: Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) criticised DAP Youth Chief Woo Kah Leong for defending activist Fahmi Reza after he was barred from travelling abroad while remaining silent over alleged defamatory content aimed at the Sabah Governor. Its Chairman, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar questioned Woo's selective outrage and accused him of turning a blind eye to Fahmi's alleged insults to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.
Advertisement 'Yes, Woo has every right to defend Fahmi, but why hasn't he questioned why no legal action has been taken against Fahmi despite multiple police reports lodged by Sabahans?' He pointed out that Fahmi had allegedly humiliated the Governor through a caricature posted online, an act Zulkarnain described as 'a deliberate and malicious attack.' 'Does Woo's silence have anything to do with the fact that Tun Musa is a Sabahan?' he asked. Zulkarnain reminded the public that the Governor's appointment was made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, through a stringent vetting process, and that Tun Musa had never been convicted of any crime. 'Is Woo implying that His Majesty made a mistake in appointing Tun Musa?' he questioned. He further defended Tun Musa's credentials, calling him a respected corporate figure and the only Sabahan ever to own a bank prior to entering politics. G57 also took issue with what it called Fahmi's 'selective activism.' 'Why hasn't Fahmi ever named Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as Sabah's top 'corrupt' despite Shafie having been remanded in a RM1.5 billion rural project corruption probe?' 'What about Bung Moktar's ongoing RM2.8 million graft case or Peter Anthony's conviction for cheating Universiti Malaysia Sabah?' 'Fahmi seems to be targeting only one individual. Is he being used by someone?' he questioned. Zulkarnain said Sabahans had filed numerous police reports against Fahmi over the alleged insult to the Governor, but no legal action had followed so far. 'What makes Fahmi so untouchable? Sabahans are watching. MACC helps government prevent future leakages

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 6): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not only tasked with fighting corruption but also plays a vital role in helping the government prevent future leakages, said MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya. He said the Sabah State Government's efforts to curb leakages, for example, will bring wide-ranging impacts if done systematically. 'The direction in this state is not only to prevent corruption, but we must also think about how to help the State Government curb leakages so that the impact is long-lasting,' he said. Ahmad Khusairi said this after witnessing the handing over of duties for the Sabah MACC director post from outgoing director Datuk Karunanithy Y. Subbiah to Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex here on Wednesday. Mohd Fuad, who previously served as Penang MACC director, will officially take over as Sabah MACC director on August 15. Karunanithy has been appointed as the new Penang MACC director. Ahmad Khusairi praised Karunanithy's contributions, saying he played a pivotal role in strengthening public trust in MACC and successfully led several major operations during his tenure in Sabah. 'He has shown extraordinary commitment, firm and strategic leadership, and managed to overcome various major challenges throughout his service here,' he added. He also expressed confidence that the appointment of Mohd Fuad, a Sabahan, would further strengthen the commission's anti-corruption agenda in the state. In his farewell speech, Karunanithy said the success of the Sabah MACC during his tenure was due to strategic collaboration with federal and state departments, as well as media partners. 'I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the Sabah State Government, especially Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr. Haji Safar Untong for supporting all initiatives — whether in operations, prevention, or governance reforms — proposed during my tenure,' he said. Karunanithy, who served as Sabah MACC director for five years and 11 months since September 17, 2019, urged MACC staff to continue upholding a work culture rooted in integrity and professionalism. Also present at the event were Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Haji Rosli Isa, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, and Kota Kinabalu City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Haji Sabin Samitah.

No need for new talks, just political will to implement MA63: Madius

He reiterated the call while debating the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday. The Upko Honorary President said Sabahans should not continue to suffer from underdevelopment and poverty due to the failure to deliver the promised revenue returns. He pointed out that more than 80 per cent of the country's RM1.3 trillion debt has been spent in Peninsular Malaysia, while resource-rich Sabah remains inadequately funded. The former Sabah Deputy Chief Minister stressed that Sabah could independently fund basic infrastructure and economic development if it received its rightful 40 per cent share.
