Harrison Ford addresses Indiana Jones 5 flop

Yahoo06-02-2025

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford has opened up about the fifth film in the franchise flopping.
Star Wars actor Ford took on the role of the titular archaeologist in 1981 for Raiders of the Lost Ark, before appearing in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
He reprised the role almost 20 years later in 2008 for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a sequel that divided critics but became the franchise's highest-grossing film, raking in $786 million worldwide.
But 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn't keep the momentum going, with its sky-high production budget and lackluster reviews among the factors causing it to bomb at the box office.

Disney lost a reported $130 million on the project, but Ford had a simple response to the beloved franchise's failure when speaking to the Wall Street Journal.
"S**t happens," he said. "I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I'm still happy I made that movie."
The Hollywood icon is jumping from one huge franchise to another, with his next big screen appearance in The Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Brave New World.

Ford took on the role Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the superhero franchise, following the death of William Hurt who starred as the character in five films across the MCU.
He first appeared in the role in Captain America: New World Order, where he opened up on the "tough" filming schedule for the blockbuster production.
"Yeah. I mean, there are tough days and easy days and fun days and all kinds of days," he told Esquire. "It's a tough schedule and, yeah, it's fun. But it's not a walk in the park. It's not fun fun. It's work."
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is now streaming on Disney+.

Decades After Its Joint-Venture Journey Began, Hulu's Sole Ownership By Disney 'Finally Resolved' With $439M Payment To NBCU, Bob Iger Exults

The long and winding road of Hulu, which started in the pre-smartphone era as a streaming joint venture involving NBC and Fox, has concluded with the finalizing of Disney's buy-out of Comcast. Disney is paying an extra $438.7 million to Comcast's NBCUniversal, on top of the $8.6 billion it committed in 2023 under the terms established in a put/call arrangement unveiled in 2019. That deal, which was accompanied by Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox, fueled Disney's streaming ambitions as it prepared to launch Disney+. A $27.5 billion floor value was set, with multiple third-party appraisals then entering the discussions. Disney's appraisal, not surprisingly, came in below the $27.5 billion level, while NBCU rendered an estimate that was 'substantially' higher, Disney said in an SEC filing. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts publicly jockeyed over the value of the service in a sector increasingly defined by streaming. The transaction, completed Monday, 'takes into account the valuation of a third appraiser,' the filing explained. Had the NBCU appraiser prevailed, the result would have been a payment to Comcast/NBCU of about $5 billion, Disney said. The buyout is slated to close on or before July 24. 'We are pleased this is finally resolved,' Iger said in a statement. 'We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck. Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu's general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN's direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers.' Comcast said in a statement provided to Deadline, 'Hulu was a great start for us in streaming that generated nearly $10 billion in proceeds for Comcast and created an important audience for NBCUniversal's world-class content. We wish Disney well with Hulu and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the partnership.' Disney has been more closely integrating Hulu with its Disney+ flagship and its linear networks in recent years. Hulu remains a key participant in Disney's vertical bundles as well as a successful one involving a third-party, HBO Max. After NBC and Fox hopped onboard the streaming pioneer ahead of its official founding in 2007, Disney soon followed and Time Warner would go on to take a 10% stake. In-fighting often hindered the progress of Hulu as its strategy continuously shifted. While each participant in the JV fell away as companies pursued their own independent strategies, the irony is that a Hulu-style coming together of legacy players is now coalescing as media giants grapple with the costs and murky financials of streaming compared with the lucrative pay-TV business. Ironheart Trailer Teases Magical Armor Upgrade, Anthony Ramos' Villain

A new trailer for has been released. Marvel Studios' Ironheart is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ later this month. The show sees Dominique Thorne reprise her role as Riri Williams after previously making her MCU debut in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Check out the new Ironheart trailer below (watch more trailers and clips): The Ironheart trailer seemingly teases that Riri's armor might get some sort of magical upgrade. It also offers some new footage of Anthony Ramos' villainous character, Parker Robbins/The Hood, and more. 'Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Television's Ironheart pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Thorne), determined to make her mark on the world, returns to her hometown of Chicago,' the official synopsis reads. 'Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka The Hood (Anthony Ramos).' Thorne said in a statement, 'What was interesting for me was how different Riri's story and entrance into the MCU was in comparison to other characters. After bringing Riri to life in the world of Wakanda, we had an amazing opportunity to follow that up with a deep dive into the character that allows for the exploration of her origin story. We're not necessarily going back in time; it's more of catching up and seeing the effects of how those first pivotal moments of her life have shaped her, and seeing the person that she's trying to become.' In addition to Thorne and Ramos, the cast of the show includes Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White. Ryan Coogler serves as an executive producer on the show, while Chinaka Hodge is the head writer. The first three episodes of Marvel's Ironheart will be released on Disney+ on June 24, 2025. Al Pacino turned down iconic ‘Star Wars' role because he was confused

Al Pacino revealed that he passed up on a role in George Lucas ' ' Star Wars ' because he couldn't make sense of the story. 'They handed me this script, and I thought, 'I don't understand,'' the 'Scarface' actor, who was offered the role of Han Solo in the 1977 box office hit, recalled during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. He added that it felt like he was reading a 'different language.' Pacino said that he then passed the script along to his friend and mentor, fellow actor Charlie Laughton, for a second opinion. 'He was pretty wise and he said, 'I don't get it, Al. I dunno. I don't get it.' I said, 'Well, I don't either; what are we going to do? They offered me a fortune, but I don't know. No, I can't play something if I don't speak the language.' 'I said, 'I think I'm in the mood to make Harrison Ford a career,'' Pacino quipped, referring to the actor who ended up famously taking on the iconic role in the science-fiction series once he turned it down. Lucky for him, while he skipped out on the chance to be part of Lucas' billion-dollar franchise, Pacino still had the opportunity to star in a number of highly-acclaimed films in the years that followed, from 'Devil's Advocate' (1997) and 'The Insider' (1999) to ' The Irishman ' (2019) and ' Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' His latest project,' The Ritual,' hit theaters Friday, June 6. The horror film also stars Abigail Cowen ('Redeeming Love', 'Fate: The Winx Saga'); Dan Stevens ('Beauty and the Beast', ' Abigail ') and Ashley Greene ('Twilight,' 'It Feeds'). It turns out Pacino wasn't the only actor to turn down the role of the famous intergalactic pilot in the 1970s. 'Boogie Nights' actor Burt Reynolds, who died in 2018, revealed that was also offered the part but turned it down because he 'didn't want to play that kind of role at the time.' 'Now I regret it,' he told Business Insider in 2016. 'I wish I would have done it.' Others, such as Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell auditioned for the role but never progressed further in the casting process.
