Implications of toll rate hike and new electricity tariff in Dewan Rakyat
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's official website, Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) will raise the matter during Minister's Question Time, followed by Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) who will ask the Communications Minister to state the MCMC investigation procedures for complaints related to statements on social media.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) will ask the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister to state the objective of the new electricity tariff schedule in achieving the energy transition agenda and long-term sustainability and explain claims that the tariff places a burden on the public.
During the Questions for Oral Answers Session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will ask the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister regarding the current status of the waqf water programme that was launched during the previous administration and whether the ministry plans to officially include the waqf water programme in the National Water Resources Policy or the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Other questions include the welfare of senior citizens by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak) who will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister about measures and efforts to introduce more comprehensive laws to protect senior citizens against neglect and abuse by family members.
After the session ends, the sitting will continue with the tabling of the several bills for second reading, including the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025, the Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill 2025.
The Second Meeting Of The Fourth Session Of 15th Parliament for the Dewan Rakyat will take place for 24 days till Aug 28. - Bernama

New Kuching airport access road to ease traffic by September
KUCHING: The construction of an eight-kilometer access road connecting Jalan Datuk Mohamad Musa in Kota Samarahan to the southern access road of the airport is expected to be fully completed this September. Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the road, which is categorised as a federal road, will serve as an alternative route to alleviate the frequent traffic congestion between Kota Samarahan and Kuching. 'The current progress is at 96 percent, with only four percent remaining, which involves the installation of road equipment and lights. I understand the entire project can be completed next month,' he told reporters after an official working visit to the project site today. He also stated that the development agenda for the 13th Malaysia Plan under his ministry in Sarawak will be aligned with the state's Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). He said infrastructure development like roads, education, health, and industries are among the priorities under this plan, in line with the Sarawak State Government's commitment to drive the green energy and sustainable technology sectors. 'The 13th Malaysia Plan document clearly states that Sarawak and Sabah will become energy industry hubs. Therefore, the implementation of infrastructure projects like this is crucial,' he said. Commenting on his ministry's role, Nanta said the Ministry of Works (KKR), through the Public Works Department (JKR), plays a significant role as the primary implementer of national infrastructure development. 'Besides building roads, JKR also assists other ministries like the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in building and repairing schools, colleges, hospitals, and clinics,' he added. - Bernama

Govt to restore 'pondok' institutions with new technology, AI, says Anwar

He stated that this initiative involves cooperation between the Finance Ministry and the Islamic Development Malaysia Department. "We want to add new technology, including information technology, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence, so that this bulwark remains the strongest one to defend the faith, morals, and character of the Ummah," he said at the opening ceremony of the 65th International Al-Quran Recital and Memorisation Competition (MTHQA) at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) on Saturday (Aug 2). "In all my travels around the world - to Peru, Brazil, France, Cambodia, and dozens of other countries in recent years - every time I visit, I bring the Quran along with a translation in that country's language, and we distribute it officially. This, I believe, is a good approach," he said. This year's 65th MTHQA, running from Aug 2 to 9, 2025, features the theme 'Developing a MADANI Ummah' and brings together 71 participants from 49 countries. Malaysia is represented by four participants: Aiman Ridhwan Mohamad Ramlan from Perak and Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi from Terengganu for the Recital category, while Muhammad Adib Ahmad Rozaini from Perak and Putri Auni Khadijah Mohd Hanif from Kelantan are in the Memorisation category. The winners of the two categories would receive RM40,000 in cash, the runners-up would get RM30,000, and third place would receive RM20,000, along with jewellery sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM). – Bernama
