Reality TV star Ratile says she experienced drama for years before it was public

News2430-04-2025
Though they presented a united front for two seasons on The Mommy Club, Ratile Mabotja, famously known as Ratile Mabitsela, and her late estranged husband Lehlogonolo Mabitsela were putting out a lot of fires behind closed doors. When he died by suicide in February, the two were separated and in the process of divorce.
Before his death, during separation and after his death, there were claims made about the former couple. Many flocked to her interview with Lungelo Mdletshe on the Engineer Your Life podcast. This was the first time she had an interview after the death of Mabitsela.
Names were not mentioned in the interview, and neither the presenter nor the beauty queen were specific about situations. However, there are those who know that, since her The Mommy Club fame in 2023, Mabotja's private life and battles have been made public. The drama followed her till her estranged husband's death and burial.
As cagey as she was in the interview – and some subjects were avoided, with the host saying it was too early – some things were addressed and she opened up about her loss.
Speaking about the loss of her estranged husband, Mabotja said the public had showered her with love and support during the difficult time. Though she presented a strong front, she had the nation behind her at the time she felt as if she had to deal with the worst.
Asked about her recovery, the beauty queen said she was healing every day, adding that she and her children were in therapy, which they attended once a week.
"[The loss] left me traumatised. More trauma than anything. Having to also feel the absence. We would have conversations with the kids. Now we constantly have to revisit it. It's a journey," she said.
She explained:
He will always be the father of my children, whether we were married [or] divorced. There will not be any other person who will say now this is the father. I really do think that he did mean a lot to my children, and there are certain things that need parents. I don't want to see my children break down because [dad is not there].
Mabotja said she was not the only one who had lost someone; a mother lost a son, people lost a brother and uncle. She hoped that they would support one another because what they had in common was grief, however, her family came through for her.
"I am grateful for my family, each and every one of them. There are two of his aunts who came through proper, and I am grateful for them. The people that mattered showed up."
In the interview, she hailed her mother as the most supportive mother, who has always been there for her.
Speaking about the drama before and after the death of her estranged husband, Mabotja said that was the negativity she had witnessed over the years, but it was only being made public now. She said this was not new for her, but she constantly chose to walk away for her peace.
She said:
Sometimes winning a fight means walking away and being okay with walking away. If you have to get in the mud, it's probably going to hurt you more than it hurts the other person.
Even though her name was dragged, she said she did not need apologies from anyone.
Having gone through all the pain, the businesswoman said she still believed in love.
THE MOMMY CLUB
The interview touched on the two seasons the reality TV star spent with The Mommy Club on Showmax.
Just like the current cast members, the former The Mommy Club cast member pointed out longer hours of shooting. Mabotja said the show took her away from her children, and she felt guilty for not spending quality time with them. She said every time the show aired, she would be anxious because some things she shot were omitted during editing.
The former Mrs South Africa contestant shared about the new chapter of her life, saying she was taking up mentoring and pageant coaching, especially for young people in townships.

Mrs Mops talks conquering the Hyrox fitness challenge and maintaining her BBL

Mpumi 'Mrs Mops' Mophatlane trained for three months for the Cape Town Hyrox event. She is planning on entering the Johannesburg event at the end of 2025. Mpumi says she maintains her BBL through consistent gym sessions. ______________________________________________________________________ 'I never say no to a challenge,' she says. It took three months of training but reality TV star Mpumi 'Mrs Mops' Mophatlane has conquered the Hyrox global fitness movement. The intense indoor fitness competition held its first South African events in Johannesburg in March 2025 and in Cape Town in July, drawing in hundreds of participants to compete in a series of running and workouts in one of the world's fastest growing fitness challenges. Mpumi efforts prove that anyone can overcome what they set their mind to. Mpumi admits to TRUELOVE, 'It was a tough journey because I am not as fit. I've never thought of myself as a hybrid athlete. 'And so when my friend, who's also my personal trainer, said to me, 'Listen, in about three months time, there's going to be the Hyrox Cape Town'. And I'm like, 'Okay, so first of all, what is Hyrox? Number one. And what do they require?' And then when she sent me the pictures and the videos, I was like, there's no way.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mpumi Mophatlane (@mpumimops) But through hard work, determination and motivation, Mrs Mops completed the intense challenge in just under two hours. The Mommy Club star tells us all about how she trained for the challenge, kept herself going and how she maintains her sculpted physique since undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure. Tell us about your training schedule preparing for the Hyrox fitness challenge. 'Being so busy, it was so difficult. So, what we did is we decided let's train twice a week with the Hyrox trainer, and, because Hyrox is mostly running and I needed to get my pace up because I'm not a runner. Like I can't run to save my life. 'And when we got there, he tested us and he said to me, 'Mm, Mpumi, you are not runner girl. You're in trouble. You need to start increasing your pace and just start running'. And we started running on Sundays and started running on Mondays and Wednesdays as well to get my pace right. And the types of exercises there are, it's skiing, it's rowing, it's ball throws, it's the farmers carry. Yoh, it's lunges and burpees, which humbled me. Burpees humble me, I almost fainted when I was doing the burpees! What kept you motivated to be consistent with your training? 'What kept me going was my children and my family because I had committed and with my big mouth, I had told everybody. So, everybody now was asking me, 'Hey, how's the Hyrox going? How's the training going?' Now I can't back down because I had already said to people, 'I'm training for the Hyrox'. 'Every time they're like, 'Mpumi, have a glass of wine', I'm like, 'No thanks, I'm training for the Hyrox'. So, I had committed myself to such a level that I couldn't back down.' Would you commit to this level of working out in your everyday life? 'Oh, yes, absolutely. Now that I'm fit and I'm Hyrox fit and I know what to expect. When another one comes in Johannesburg, I think there's one coming in Johannesburg again at the end of the year, I will definitely enter that one.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mpumi Mophatlane (@mpumimops) What kind of lifestyle changes did you have to make to maintain your BBL? 'It's so important that if you do decide to get a BBL like I did, you have to go to the gym and maintain it. And it comes with consistency and a change of diet because it's going to be massive if you keep on eating all these unhealthy foods. 'So you have to just eat healthy. And, I mean, you can cheat here and there and have a cheat day, that's fine. But most of the time you just need to watch it. Watch your weight and everything else in between. Because I've had friends who've gone for round one, round two, round three BBLs because they don't like going to the gym. And so, mina, it's just one round and I'm done. and I'm going to maintain these results, honey, by being a gym bunny.' How has your body changed a year on after your BBL? 'The results get better. Because as soon as you get up from that operating table, you look extremely exaggerated because you're swollen. And as time goes by and you're getting your massages - because it's really important to also get your massages. 'What people don't understand is that after you get your BBL and your lipo, you need lymphatic drainage massage to get all those fluids out from the swelling. And when you get your massages and you compress and you sleep with your compression garment and you're doing all those aftercare procedures, after a few months, you can tell that your body is getting better and better.' ‘I don't think Her Majesty's apology was sincere' – Noksie on The Mommy Club reunion

Season three of The Mommy Club has officially ended. By far, this was the most controversial season the mommies have had. Not only were feuds and insults hurled, but there were also divisions. The reunion which was hosted by TV presenter, actress and singer Ntombee Ngcobo-Mzolo, were no different as they brought on confrontations and tears. Emotions ran high, nothing was sugar-coated, and every issue viewers have been buzzing about was laid bare. From Pheladi's absence and Mrs Sande's emotional state to the bullying accusations that sparked serious conversations online, the ladies didn't hold back. One of the biggest moments of the reunion came when Season 3 newcomer Mrs J stormed out after a heated exchange with Vuyi, leaving everyone gagged. While there were apologies and attempts to move forward, it's clear that not all wounds have healed, and where their relationships stand now is everyone's guess. Noksie, who has been at the centre of the biggest feud of the season, didn't shy away from spilling tea, sharing her thoughts on what really went down at the reunion, how she feels about the other ladies, her celebrity fans and more. Read more | 'My children were discriminated from day one' – Mrs J lashes out at The Mommy Club production Reflecting on her time on the show, she says it wasn't what she expected. 'I went in thinking I'd be surrounded by empowered, thriving boss babes, women glowing from the inside out. Instead, I found myself among people carrying a lot of hurt and sadness, which was honestly quite disheartening.' Going into the show, the mother of one aimed to increase her brand visibility as a real estate agent. At the very least, she has achieved her goal. 'I'm really happy that sellers are now approaching me directly, which has made things easier for my real estate business.' Despite knowing that she doesn't thrive in group settings, she has been shown love and support by the public with some people even calling her the breakout star of the season. Now, everywhere she goes, she's recognised and showered with words of appreciation. 'I've had quite a few well-known people reach out to me, and it's been so heartwarming. One of them is the incredible Khanyi Mbau. What a queen! I'm truly grateful.' After the explosive reunion, Noksie has stayed in touch with Mrs J, who's been her day one, unlike Pheladi. Read more | 'I have nothing to hide' – Her Majesty ahead of The Mommy Club reunion 'As for the rest of the ladies, even though apologies were exchanged at the reunion, they're still not people I'd keep close. That said, I genuinely wish them all the best,' she adds. Most of the cast members were dissatisfied with a lot of production decisions, as Mrs J went as far as storming out of the reunion because her children's scene did not make it to the final product, nor were they invited to the reunion like Vuyi and Her Majesty's daughters. Other cast members accused the production company of twisting their arms and words to suit an unpleasant narrative. To that, Noksie says they were merely doing their job. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nokwethemba khumalo🇿🇦 (@noksie_khumalo) 'The production team is simply doing their job. They have their mandate, just like the cast does. Their role is to showcase what was filmed. It's really simple: if you don't want to be perceived in a certain way, don't behave that way. While we were shooting, I kept wondering if they realised this would eventually air. That's when it became clear to me that they didn't seem to care much about their image. Their main focus was bringing me down, without thinking about how their behaviour would reflect on them in the end.' Apologies flew across the room at the reunion. Some were accepted and some were dug out from deep holes. Although she was introduced to the group by Her Majesty, she doesn't believe the mother of three's apology was genuine. 'I don't think that her apology was sincere, but I just wanted to move on and move away.' To the new mommies who could be joining The Mommy Club in season four, she advises them to be themselves. 'My advice to the new mommy joining the show would be to simply be yourself. That's the most powerful thing you can be. Your tribe will naturally gravitate toward you, and those who aren't meant for you will fall away, just as they should.'
