Anthony Edwards continues to rise in popularity as one of the NBA's main attractions, thanks to his on-court performances. He and the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated the Lakers and Warriors from the playoffs, with superstars LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Steph Curry, and Jimmy Butler forced to watch the other rounds from afar.

Edwards and his squad couldn't eliminate the Oklahoma City Thunder, but it seems that Minnesota will be a serious contender thanks to Ant-Man and his supporting cast members.
And they could receive an upgrade by adding an impressive rookie via the NBA Draft or trading for Kevin Durant during the offseason.

Meanwhile, things are also looking up for Edwards off the court, due to his business ventures and endorsements. He's got a signature basketball shoe with Adidas with the Anthony Edwards 1 Low, and it's set to expand into another sport.
An interesting development recently arrived with Ant's sneaker, as news hit that he and the shoe brand are dropping AE 1 football cleats next year.

The Nice Kicks X account dropped an early look at the upcoming shoe for the gridiron, and for those wondering, Edwards excelled at youth football in Georgia before switching his focus to hoops.
Fan reactions to the AE 1 cleats have seemed mostly positive without knowing how well these shoes will work for football. That said, many individuals couldn't help but mention a fellow USA Olympic athlete.
"Noah is not going to like this," a popular comment on the X post said.
"Noah Lyles fuming somewhere rn," another X commenter wrote.
"Now do it for track and field. I wanna see something real quick," one commenter said.

"How a NBA player got the best football cleats lol," someone asked in an X comment.
Both Edwards and Lyles achieved gold at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Ant's came from Team USA basketball, while Lyles won his in the men's 100 metres event. He's touted himself as a "six-time world champion."
Earlier this month, former NFL star Cam Newton asked Lyles about the perceived beef or quarrel between him and Edwards. Last year, a video from The Guardian features Lyles calling out Team USA basketball as "world champions of what?"
While talking with Newton on his podcast, the track and field star explained his contract situation with Adidas and how he previously expressed interest to them in having a signature shoe like Edwards does.
Lyles told Newton that he requires spikes for running and Adidas makes 'some of the best in the world" so he likely wouldn't go with another brand despite his frustration with them. However, the popular shoe company hasn't released a line of signature track and field cleats for him.

Meanwhile, Ant is adding football cleats in 2026 as he continues to expand his AE 1 offerings with Adidas.

Liverpool to make FINAL offer to contract rebel

Liverpool's contract offers to players have elicited a mixed response lately. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the crown jewel of the academy graduates, a homegrown right-back phenomenon who simply didn't think the club was at the pinnacle of the sport, despite the Reds winning the Premier League title by 10 points over Arsenal to tie Manchester United on 20 titles. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Of course, the Reds are an elite club, but in the Englishman's mind, a move to Real Madrid was something he simply couldn't go without. He declined the club's approach and left on a 'free'. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Meanwhile, the Reds' two other big leaders in Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk showed their dedication to the club by signing new deals, and committing to Liverpool until 2027 at least. Now it's Konate's turn to face the music Once Salah and Van Dijk had signed their new contracts, the fans were given a chance to breathe and forget about the complexities of player negotiations, simply focusing on celebrating the title win. But it soon became apparent that this would be a make or break summer for Ibrahima Konate and while we initially received encouragement that he would re-sign with us, nothing has happened yet. After the match against Tottenham that won Liverpool the Premier League, the Frenchman was pictured sitting in the stands at Anfield, pondering over how the celebrating fans must have felt. It made him emotional and you felt as though the bond he had with us would convince him to stay. A series of contract talks then unfolded once the season had formally drawn to a close, over six months since Liverpool first looked to negotiate with Konate to try and tie him down to a new deal. But they were unsuccessful, as differing valuations caused a breakdown in talks and now it's August, just a few days before the new season begins and we're none the wiser as to what will happen. Paris Saint Germain were said to have been interested, but their successful approach for IIlya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth suggests they may no longer be in the market for a defender. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are always on the hunt for a bargain and are even more interested when it comes to free transfers. MARCA, a Spanish website, has recently published a report on Konate's situation, claiming that it's still possible for the player to leave in finals weeks of the transfer window. In their report, it said: "Liverpool's directors don't want a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold affair, and are putting pressure on Konate in every way possible to renew his contract, all so that he doesn't leave the English club, leaving nothing or very little in return, as was the case with the now Real Madrid player, who, without the Club World Cup, would have left nothing in the Premier League champions' coffers. "As MARCA has learned, the English club plans to renew the Frenchman's contract in the coming days. If the player rejects the offer again, the situation would change radically, and the possibility of Konate being put on the market would become more than a reality. In fact, the Frenchman and Van Dijk are the only healthy centre-backs Slot currently has." Of course, the reliability of this information is to be doubted, since Liverpool would be massively shooting themselves in the foot if they allowed Konate to leave this summer. If him extending his contract isn't on the cards for us, then letting him go in January might well be a considered option. But until moves for linked players such as Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni are agreed, then nothing will happen with Konate regardless. He's been happy in and around the squad this summer and so there is reason to be optimistic with our chances of keeping him, but the can of works regarding his future is unlikely to be opened this summer. His importance to the side is greater than a transfer fee. Nonetheless, keep an eye on this saga, because we'll eventually get an update, positive or negative, ignoring the issue isn't an option. Eventually he'll need to face the music, just as we will as a club.

Payton Pritchard expected to move into starting lineup for Boston Celtics

Payton Pritchard did not have the easiest path to the NBA, but a dominant senior season with the Oregon Ducks helped launch him into the first round of the draft in 2020. His role with the Boston Celtics has increased significantly over the past two seasons, and that trend is expected to continue this upcoming year. Following a devastating injury to Jayson Tatum that will sideline him for the entire 2025-26 season and a necessary roster purge, Pritchard will be elevated to the starting point guard role, according to NBA reporter Grant Afseth. 'The Celtics believe Pritchard has earned the starting job through years of steady development. His familiarity with the system and readiness to handle expanded responsibilities have made him the preferred option to open games at point guard,' said Afseth. Pritchard was never going to supplant Jrue Holiday from the starting lineup, but the role opened up when the two-time champion was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. Pritchard has made impressive strides as a playmaker over the last two seasons, which likely played a role in Boston's confidence in his ability to run the offense. Expectations have been tempered in Bean Town for the first time in a long time in the wake of the dramatically different roster. But Pritchard will now be in the spotlight with an opportunity to shine in a lead role. LA 2028 Olympics to sell venue naming rights

For the first time in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, LA28 — the organizing committee for the 2028 Summer Games — is selling temporary naming rights at competition venues. Why it matters: Unlike other host countries, the U.S. government does not directly fund the Games, which has forced the host committee to find creative ways to raise capital. The committee has already laid out a commercial sponsorship revenue target of $2.5 billion, which it says would be the largest commercial revenue raise in sports. A spokesperson told Axios the committee is on track to meet that goal. Zoom in: Companies that already hold naming rights for venues will have the option to retain those rights during the Summer Games by becoming LA28 partners. If they decline, the Olympics' longstanding "clean venue" rules will remain, which means that the venue will be stripped of all non-official Olympics sponsor branding. The 2028 Games will repurpose permanent venues throughout Los Angeles, including SoFi Stadium and Arena. The first named venues, announced Thursday by LA28, are the Comcast Squash Center at Universal Studios and the Honda Center in Anaheim, home to the Anaheim Ducks NHL team, which will house indoor volleyball. Comcast's Peacock Theater will host boxing, weightlifting and goalball, as has been previously announced. Between the lines: There are 19 temporary venues that are eligible for naming rights. The first opportunities will go to members of the Olympic Partner program, followed by LA28's highest-tier domestic sponsors. Zoom out: The change comes in response to new International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules that allow host cities to sell naming rights to official Olympics sponsors.
