The Wheat Ridge Police Department announced in a post on X Thursday that following an 'extensive investigation,' John Bormolini was arrested on 'suspicion of felony charges.'

Formal charges have not yet been filed, but the police department said it recommended charges for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, on top of multiple traffic infractions.
The recommended charges stem from the deadly crash that happened on Dec. 23 near the intersection of West 44th Avenue and Kipling Street.
According to police, crash investigators used witness statements and surveillance video and determined that the suspect vehicle, a black Toyota Tundra, was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Kipling Street when it rear-ended a red Ram 1500 that was stopped at the light waiting to turn left onto W. 44th Avenue.

The driver of the Ram was pronounced dead on the scene, and a passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The police department said surveillance video showed the suspect vehicle driving 'erratically and recklessly,' maneuvering around multiple cars along Kipling Street as far back as West 38th Avenue and running a red light at West 40th Avenue.

Police said data showed the suspect vehicle was traveling at least 78 mph at the time of the crash, which occurred in a 40 mph zone.
Charges have not been formally filed, but police recommended the following to the District Attorney:
Vehicular homicide
Vehicular assault
Reckless driving
Failing to drive in a single lane
Running a red light
Speeding
Police said Bormolini was given a $75,000 cash-only bond.

Southbound Hwy 115 closed due to deadly crash

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Southbound lanes of Highway 115 in southwestern El Paso County are closed after a minor was killed in a crash on Monday afternoon, June 9. According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), troopers originally responded around 1 p.m. on Monday to a two-car crash near the El Paso/Fremont County line. CSP said initial reports indicate a Hyundai Ioniq and a Mack semi truck hailing a trailer collided, though the cause of the crash is under investigation. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the passenger, a minor, was transported by helicopter. The passenger was declared dead at the hospital. CSP said as of 5 p.m. Monday, the southbound lanes remained closed, and there is no estimated time of reopening. CSP said the closure is expected to last an 'extended period of time' for the investigation. If anyone witnessed the crash and has not spoken to investigators, you are asked to contact CSP at (719) 544-2424. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
