Lokesh unveils 6-pillar vision at Mahanadu
"Times are changing, so are the needs and aspirations of the people. The TDP, while staying rooted in its founding principles, must evolve with the changing times," explained Lokesh, who is also the son of TDP president and Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
The TDP general secretary termed the six resolutions as a roadmap for the party's future. He called upon cadres to work for building a stronger, united, and progressive Telugu Desam.
The first resolution was titled global recognition for Telugu identity. It states that the TDP will strive to elevate the global standing of Telugu people beyond caste, religion, or region. From NTR's defiance of central authority to Chandrababu Naidu putting Telugu pride on the global map, this legacy must continue, he said.
Youth empowerment (Yuvagalam) was the second resolution introduced by Lokesh. The TDP will prioritise opportunities for youth, it said, adding that the party welcomes both senior and junior leaders, encouraging merit over hierarchy. Lokesh highlighted the creation of thousands of jobs, the attraction of major industries and the goal to create 20 lakh employment opportunities. Introducing the third resolution titled 'women empowerment' (Sthree Shakti), Lokesh noted that from NTR's move to provide women equal property rights to Chandrababu Naidu's economic empowerment initiatives, the TDP has a strong record on gender equity. He vowed to ensure safety, representation, and equal responsibility for women in all spheres, including within the party.
The fourth resolution is 'social re-engineering- pro-poor'. The TDP aims to eradicate poverty through innovative welfare models. From subsidised essentials to pensions and housing, Lokesh reiterated the commitment to social justice, especially for backward communities, under the P-4 (poverty alleviation) concept. Referring to the fifth resolution on 'support for farmers', Lokesh stated that farmers are the backbone of society, and the TDP has always stood by them. From irrigation to crop subsidies, the party has taken initiatives that have led Andhra Pradesh to top ranks in agriculture. Lokesh promised continued support, ensuring fair prices and financial assistance to the farming community.
The sixth resolution was titled 'Cadre as the Backbone - Workers are Leaders'. Lokesh paid heartfelt tributes to loyal party workers, recounting stories of bravery and sacrifice. "In TDP, the worker is the real leader," he said. The party has provided insurance, education, healthcare, and employment support to its cadre, and is now formulating a dedicated plan to empower them further, he added.

AP's new liquor policy dents TG border sales
Mahabubnagar: Cross-border liquor sales hinge on excise policies in the respective states, quality, varieties available, and prices. Sudden shifts can upend sales on either side of the border. A 'case' in point in the Telugu states is Andhra Pradesh's newly revamped liquor policy, which has begun to make its presence felt in Telangana's border districts, with sales in several wine and liquor shops witnessing a steep decline—particularly in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, which shares borders with Kurnool and Guntur districts of AP. Until recently, vends in the border areas of Alampur and Macherla were the go-to spots for customers from Andhra Pradesh. Shops here were bustling with heavy footfall, thanks to the stark difference in liquor policies between the two states. Under former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's government, liquor was sold exclusively through government-run outlets across the state. The choice of brands was limited, quality often questionable, and the prices hefty; driving many AP customers across the border to embrace sellers in Telangana, where most popular brands were readily available at relatively affordable prices. With the change in government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has overhauled the old liquor policy, granting licences to over 3,000 private and retail vendors. Liquor is now sold openly across AP, with greater availability of choices and at lower prices than before; yet slightly, costlier than in Telangana. This shift has resulted in nearly a 50% drop in liquor sales in Telangana's border towns to customers from AP. Narender, a resident of Kurnool living in the Alampur border area, observed that while prices in AP have reduced under the new policy, quality concerns persist. 'Even though the new policy has been implemented, people in border areas still prefer liquor from Telangana. As per my estimate, sales here have dropped only by 3–5% because of AP customers switching over. Many are still crossing the border due to quality differences. In AP, some brands cost at least Rs 10 more than in Telangana, and people are not happy with what's available,' he told 'The Hans India'. Laxmikanth Reddy of Alampur recalled the bustling scene at the Pullur toll plaza, which was once thronged by customers from AP before 2024. 'Now, the crowds are gone. The new policy has cut sales in border shops by almost half. Only a small fraction—maybe 2–5%—of AP customers still come here, mainly for better quality,' he observed. For shop owners in Mahabubnagar's border areas, the change has been swift and sharp. What was once a lucrative market, fuelled largely by AP-origin customers, has now declined; with only loyal, quality-conscious buyers making the rounds. While Telangana still retains an edge in brand variety and perceived quality, Andhra Pradesh's more competitive pricing and increased accessibility are shifting the balance. If the trend continues, the once-bustling liquor hubs along the Telangana-AP border may have to rethink their strategies—or risk toasting to the end of an era in cross-border wine sales.

The scheme was formally launched at the local RTC bus stand, where Minister Savitha, Collector Chetan, and MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy jointly flagged off the buses under the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Savitha described Sthree Shakti as a historic step benefiting women, girls, and transgender persons across the State. Out of 11,449 APSRTC buses in Andhra Pradesh, 8,458 (74%) are now operating under this scheme, covering Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, Express, Metro Express, Ordinary City, and Enclave Route services. Collector Chetan said that in the district, 315 buses—196 Palle Velugu, 14 Ultra Palle Velugu, and 105 Express—are allocated to the scheme, serving 150 routes from villages to mandal and district headquarters.
