Today Civil Guard officers in Madrid arrested an immigrant born in Ecuador.
Reports this afternoon said police were searching her house in the working-class Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas.
The suspect, who has been taken into custody, has not been named but has been described locally as a married woman with children.
The police operation to snare the person responsible for the horror crime was launched on December 12 when a recycling centre worker in the small town of Loeches near the Spanish capital found the baby's remains in several plastic bags.
A specialist dog assisted cops in the investigations at the waste plant.

Mother arrested after newborn baby girl found decapitated and dumped in bin bags

Police have arrested a woman, reported to be a married mother with kids, after the harrowing discovery of a dismembered newborn baby at a rubbish tip by horrified workers A woman has been arrested following a major police investigation that was launched in the wake of a horrific discovery at a waste and recycling tip, where workers found the dismembered body parts of a newborn baby. The remains of a baby girl were found in several bin bags at the Loeches rubbish plant in Madrid in December, causing police to scour the site with sniffer dogs to locate the rest of the brutally murdered infant. ‌ In the wake of the tragic discovery, the country's Civil Guard launched 'Operation Natal' in an effort to track down the killer and "get justice" for the slain baby girl. ‌ Investigators tracked the several bin bags found containing the baby's remains to a specific area of the Spanish capital, the Vallecas neighbourhood. They also carried out DNA tests that identified the child's Latin American ancestry and pointed to the mother being around 40 years of age. On Tuesday, Spanish police arrested an Ecuadorian woman in Madrid, with officers seen searching her home in the Vallecas area. The suspect, who has not been named, was described locally as a married woman with children, according to Sun reports. The arrest comes over seven months after recycling workers made the awful find while working at the Loeches rubbish plant and the police launched their lengthy 'Operation Natal'. However, news of the baby's brutal murder only broke last week, when the Civil Guard launched an appeal for information from the public. They urged anyone with information about a woman around 40 who had been pregnant last year to come forward, while also detailing that the baby was born alive before suffering a '"violent death." "The investigations are still open, which is why citizen collaboration is requested for the total clarification of the criminal act. Anyone who could have any information of interest on the matter, contact the Civil Guard," said a spokesman. "From the investigations carried out so far, it has been possible to determine that the remains would correspond to a female baby and that she was born alive, there are indications that would point to her death being of a violent nature."

Mum arrested after decapitated and dismembered baby dumped in bin in Spain

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of decapitating her newborn baby and leaving her in a rubbish bin. The little girl was born alive and was just five days old when she was killed. Her body was found dismembered in plastic bags in a recycling plant in the village of Loeches on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain, last December. Officers arrested an Ecuadorian woman believed to be the baby's mother today, the Spanish news outlet En boca de todos reported. The suspect has not been named but has been described as a married woman with children. En boca de todos reported earlier that she was not in custody as she remains at her home while officers search it. Her house in the working-class Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas is being searched by officers. The child she is accused of killing was discovered by a worker at the recycling plant on December 12, 2024. Investigators believe she was almost certainly killed with a knife and then dumped in garbage bags. Officers had been working on the theory that the baby's remains reached the plant's waste bins after being thrown into a container in the Vallecas neighbourhood close to the M-30 motorway. A sniffer dog called Dylan, specialised in detecting biological remains, also took part in the investigations at the waste plant. DNA tests on the newborn's dead body revealed that she was of Latin American origin. More Trending The Civil Guard, as part of Operation Natal, last week asked for the public's help in identifying a woman they estimated to be aged around 40 who had been pregnant during the last months of last year. A police spokesman said at the time: ''From the investigations carried out so far, it has been possible to determine that the remains would correspond to a female baby and that she was born alive. 'There are indications that would point to her death being of a violent nature. 'We are seeking the public's help in clarifying this criminal act and asking anyone who could have any information of interest to contact us.'
