Billie Jean King receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star for sports entertainment
The 81-year-old is the first woman to receive the accolade in that category, which includes NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and the late actor and former NFL player Carl Weathers. King received the star on April 7, at a ceremony led by Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin 'Magic' Johnson.

'I may be the first woman to be awarded a star in this category, but I'm certainly not going to be the last,' King wrote in a post on X.
King, who won 39 Grand Slam titles overall, was fundamental to the awarding of equal prize money in tennis. Her work led to the U.S. Open becoming the first Grand Slam tournament to do it in 1973, the same year that she beat Bobby Riggs in the historic 'Battle of the Sexes' tennis showdown. In 1974, King created the Women's Sports Foundation, two years after Title IX banned sex discrimination in schools in the U.S.
She has since diversified her influence across multiple sports, investing in the NWSL's Angel City FC, the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks and MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers. She also lends her name to the Billie Jean King Cup, the international women's team tennis competition.

According to Philadelphia sports reporter Ashlyn Sullivan, it was Eagles offensive lineman Landon Dickerson who brought the brews. Following a successful surgery this week he decided to mark the occasion by bringing in a whole cooler of beer to share with his teammates and the Browns. "Landon Dickerson one day post surgery just brought out a cooler of Miller Lites to share with the #Browns OL… now that's a guys guy," Sullivan wrote. Fans loved it NFL fans found it very fun to see the players all getting together and having fun with some beers: "Ripping beers at work that's what I'm talking about!" one user declared. "All the boys say Hell Yeah," wrote another. "The best teams all have a good attitude to booze," a third wrote. "Offensive linemen are the best football players." "This is exactly what you want to see from your O-linemen." A few people complained that it was inappropriate, but many of those replies were written off as being a stick in the mud. But they did still make the point that the league will probably winding up fining Dickerson for that. But even if he does wind up a little lighter in the wallet, the players will probably say it was worth it. They might even reimburse him just for the fun memory. Sixth-year Chargers QB Justin Herbert poised to finally make first-ever preseason appearance
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year before he played in a preseason game. He also made a Pro Bowl before he played in a preseason game. The 2020 first-round pick accomplished a lot during his first five seasons in the league without suiting up for a single exhibition game. But, now a sixth-year pro, Herbert is finally making his first-ever preseason appearance. Like the rest of the Chargers' current offensive starters, he's set to play Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams. "Our guys want to play," Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday. "They want the first series of the season not to be the first series of the season." Although Harbaugh noted that he's holding back a pair of veterans on the defensive side of the ball, five-time All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack and four-time All-Pro safety Derwin James Jr., it's all system go for the Chargers' offense — that is, for one or two series of the game in SoFi Stadium. Herbert didn't play in the preseason last year, Harbaugh's first leading the team, because he was nursing an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. Before that, when Brandon Staley was head coach, he didn't see preseason action, either. His rookie year overlapped with the COVID-19 pandemic, which canceled the 2020 preseason. By the time the next summer rolled around, he was already an established starter in the league. When a 27-year-old Herbert takes the field Saturday against the Rams, he'll be sharing it with wide receiver Keenan Allen, whom he spent four seasons with before Allen's one-year stay with the Chicago Bears. While the Chargers' offense got Allen back this offseason, it lost left tackle Rashawn Slater to a season-ending torn patellar tendon in training camp. Plus, Mekhi Becton — whom the Chargers signed in free agency and were expected to play at guard this season — hasn't practiced since late July. Los Angeles is dealing with moving parts up front, but the current iteration of its first-team offense will be on display this weekend, with Herbert front and center for his first-ever preseason appearance.

Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice's disciplinary hearing set for Sept. 30, AP source says
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will have a disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Sept. 30 in New York, a person with knowledge of the schedule told The Associated Press on Thursday. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the details haven't been announced, said Sue L. Robinson is scheduled to hear Rice's case. Robinson is a former U.S. district judge who serves as the disciplinary officer jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association. It's the second time under the 2020 collective bargaining agreement that the league and the players' union haven't agreed on length of discipline, sending the case to Robinson. She presided over Deshaun Watson's case in 2022. Rice still has to serve a 30-day jail sentence in the future for causing a chain-reaction crash last year on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He already agreed to pay more than $1 million in a settlement with the victims. Rice is returning from a knee injury that cut short his sophomore season in the NFL following a standout rookie campaign. He would be eligible to play the first four games, including a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, before his hearing.
