A MOTORWAY close to a major UK airport has been shut in both directions.
The M42 is closed between Junction 14 at Tonge and for the M1 at J23a, Leicestershire Police said.
Cops have advised motorists to find alternative routes.
The nature of the closure is not yet known but CCTV images show traffic having built up on the route.

It appears the cause of the fire may be gas related as Dublin Fire Brigade has requested Gas Networks Ireland to attend the scene. Luas has now advised passengers that services are only going up to Connolly and no further in as emergency services deal with the fire. However, Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus while it is being dealt with. Luas posted on X: "Passengers, please be advised Red Line services are currently only operating from Tallaght/Saggart to Connolly. "There is currently no service from Busaras to The Point. "This is due to a non Luas related incident. "Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this service disruption. 'GIVE EMERGENCY SERVICES SPACE' "We apologise for any inconvenience caused." Live Drive posted: "X IFSC X. There is a fire on Mayor Street Lower. "The road is closed between Commons Street and Harbourmaster Place. "The Luas red line cannot run between Busáras and The Point as a result. "Give emergency services space to manage this incident."
