Kota Kinabalu: A total of 20 teams participated in the Inaugural OSCA Cup Netball Championship organised by the Old Sabah Collegians Alumni (OSCA) at the Sutera Harbour Tennis courts on Saturday. OSCA President Noran Addy Sukiran in his opening speech was delighted with the positive response. 'I understand that there are 300-400 people in attendance today. This big turnout reflects the success of this organisation in bringing together a community of various agencies and generations. 'It showed the role of sports as a bridge for strengthening relationships and social integration as well as the strength of women in participating to give inspiration to others. 'Let's us together continue to support the development of sports, especially netball, as a platform for cultivating a healthy lifestyle and building a team spirit among the women's community,' he said. He also congratulated the organising committee for their effort to make the tournament a reality with only three weeks of preparation. Guest of honour and OSCA advisor Datuk Ghani Rashid believed the tournament would help to raise the dignity of women as netball, he said, will strengthen discipline, build cooperation, trust among teammates. 'We must also remember that in every match, victory is not just about points and trophies. 'There will also be some who return with valuable experience, new spirit and priceless memories. More importantly, this championship becomes a ground for the unification of relationships and souls among the netball community,' he added. Meanwhile, the five former Sabah College students who received the OSCA 2025 Netball Icon Special Award from Ghani with their past contribution to the state and country were Esther Martin (1991–1995), Rafilah Ahmad (1995–1999), Redzanizah Duman (1997–2000), Fong Kah Ling @ Fennie (1989–1994) and Ronika @ Ann Marian Ronald Masigi (1992–1993). * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? JDT the clear favourites again

Published on: Monday, August 04, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 04, 2025 By: James Wong Text Size: The inclusion of Brunei's DPMM FC and the Immigration team has added new flavour to the league, but how well these two newcomers fare is anybody's guess. THE 2025-26 football season will kick off with the Charity Shield on August 8. It is a match between 11-time Super League champions JDT FC and another giant in Malaysian football, Selangor FC. It is also the first league game of the new season and a lot will be at stake for both teams. JDT FC will no doubt be the hot favourites to win the tie with their menacing line-up of heritage and naturalised players in addition to their foreign imports and local Internationals. Although I believe Selangor also known as the Red Giants have prepared well and set their sights for a good season, it will still be a very tough task for them to get a win in the season opener.
