Shah Rukh Khan Didn't Want His Baazigar Character To Have A Dark Past
Sriram Raghavan revealed that his version of the story was strongly inspired by the novel A Kiss Before Dying, which had been made into a Hollywood film and later loosely adapted into Baazigar. He said his script followed the book more closely. In his version, the main character is a psychopath whose only goal is to marry into a rich family. 'I was more faithful to the book. And in the book, the guy is just a psychopath… uska kya hai… he wants to get married rich… usko ek ameer ghar mein shaadi karna hai. Aur usmein kya hai, the first girl he loves… she loves him too. Featuring a stellar cast that includes Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and a cameo appearance by Aamir Khan, the film has generated huge anticipation. While bookings for the film are already underway, reports now suggest that it has earned Rs 250 crore. How? Let's find out! Rajinikanth's Coolie beats Vijay's Leo According to reports by Pinkvilla, Coolie made on a hefty budget of Rs 375 crore, has already raked in close to Rs 250 crore through the sale of its international, satellite, music and digital rights. Reportedly, the film's international rights have already been sold for Rs 68 crore. Interestingly, Coolie that has earned Rs 30 crore from its International advance bookings has become the biggest opener for a Tamil film in the overseas markets, according to a report by Sacnilk. Well, The Rajinikanth starrer has surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, which had earned Rs 66 crore from international territories in 2023. Coolie to have morning shows? According to a report by India Today, Coolie will have early morning shows in Kerala and Karnataka, starting at 6 am. However, in Tamil Nadu, fans will have to wait until 9 am for the first show to be out. This decision comes after the state government cancelled all early morning screenings following the tragic loss of a fan during the first show of Thunivu in 2023. Reportedly, several theatres across Tamil Nadu have put up disclaimers, revealing that only 18 and above people will be allowed to watch Coolie in theatres. Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai wrote on X, 'Even before booking in TN starts for #Coolie, multiplexe majors PVR INOX and AGS Cinemas have announced that the film is (A) certified and those below 18 will not be allowed! Age proof at the entrance in case if the ushers have any doubt!.' As August 14 approaches, Coolie could possibly mark the highest day-one earnings of Rajinikanth's prolific career. Faissal Khan recalls career-destroying movie Mela with Aamir Khan and Twinkle Khanna: 'I knew I was not a great actor, so...'
Aamir Khan's initiative to boost Faissal Khan's career through 'Mela' backfired, causing significant setbacks despite a strong cast. Production delays arose from disputes between Aamir and director Dharmesh Darshan. Faissal dedicated himself to improving his acting skills, but the film's failure led to lasting tensions, with both Aamir and Dharmesh expressing regrets and never collaborating again. Aamir Khan 's attempt to launch his brother Faissal Khan as a leading actor with the film Mela turned out to be a major setback for Faissal's career. Despite the film's star-studded cast and years of effort, Mela failed to impress at the box office, leading to lasting tensions and missed opportunities. Production delays In a recent Pinkvilla interview, Faissal revealed that production delays in Mela were due to disagreements between his brother Aamir and the director. He admitted that after his debut in Madhosh, he was self-critical and decided to improve by taking acting lessons, practicing singing to strengthen his voice, and learning dance and fight skills. He believes these efforts helped improve his performance in Mela. The actor explained that Mela featured many talented actors, including Aamir Khan, Johnny Lever, Asrani, and Archana Puran Singh. The director, Dharmesh Darshan , challenged him by saying that since Aamir was the best, if Faissal could match his performance, it would prove his own talent. At the time, Aamir was receiving widespread praise for their recent hit Raja Hindustani, so standing out alongside him was seen as a true test of Faissal's abilities. A film made for brotherly support He further revealed that Mela took four years to complete, starting in 1996. He explained that Aamir Khan wanted to help him because at the time, many brothers were working together in films, like Sunny and Bobby Deol in Dillagi, and Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan in Hello Brother. Conflicts nearly derailed the project Faissal explained that the film's delay was due to conflicts between Aamir Khan and director Dharmesh Darshan. He had promised producer Ratan Jain not to take on any other projects until Mela was completed, which finally released in 2000. At one point, Aamir even threatened to leave the film because of these disagreements, but eventually, he and Darshan resolved their issues and continued working on the project. In a previous interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Dharmesh Darshan blamed Aamir Khan for interfering in the making of Mela. He admitted that while he was strict during Raja Hindustani, he became softer on Mela, which affected the film's quality. Dharmesh also mentioned casting issues, noting that apart from Aamir, the rest of the cast was not very strong. Despite these challenges, he praised Faissal's performance, saying that Faissal showed significant growth from Madhosh to Mela, and in some scenes, even outshined Aamir with a very real performance. According to NDTV, Aamir Khan has admitted that he regrets making Mela. After the film's failure at the box office, Aamir and director Dharmesh Darshan never worked together again.

Box Office: Kingdom flops in North America; Vijay Deverakonda shifts focus to VD24
Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and starring Vijay Deverakonda and Bhagyashri Borse among others, has not performed as per expectations, after taking a good start globally. It continues the hit-less streak for Vijay Deverakonda, who is yet to deliver a resounding blockbuster since 2018 release Geetha Govindam. There have been a few good openers like Dear Comrade, Liger and Kushi, but none of them have gone onto do good final numbers. Kingdom Flops In North America With An Expected USD 1.75 Million Closing Kingdom started well in North America, with excellent occupancies on the premiere day. The North America distributor Shloka Entertainment failed in giving the movie, the number of screens and shows that it deserved on the premiere day. After the mixed initial response, Kingdom was never able to pick up and it looks to end its run with a total gross of around USD 1.75 million in North America. Kingdom Will End Up As A Rare Biggie That Incurs Losses To Producers The Gowtam Tinnanuri movie has barely doubled its premiere numbers and this is never good news. Most movies with excellent premieres should be looking to triple the premiere numbers and that has unfortunately not happened. Kingdom is rare movie where even producers will lose money. Even non-theatrical rights won't be enough for the movie to recover the theatrical losses. Vijay Deverakonda Shifts Focus To Upcoming Biggies After Kingdom Failure Vijay Deverakonda movies onto his next couple of biggies which he announced on his last birthday. They are both massive movies with a big supporting cast. The actor will hope that these films click so that he can get back to winning ways. The fact that he is still able to deliver big openings, proves that there is audience pulling power in him. It's all about harnessing this pull to deliver blockbusters. Tollywood Is Having A Forgettable 2025 Tollywood has had a horrible 2025. Only Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Hit 3 and a couple of other small movies have been able to emerge hits. The major stars are not having frequent releases and that is hurting the business. All eyes are on dubbed releases War 2 and Coolie to bring some respite. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
