Report: Red Sox among several teams ‘prominently in' on Twins closer
The Red Sox could benefit from upgrading their bullpen at the MLB trade deadline, and it appears they are interested in a star closer. Boston is among the teams 'prominently in' on Minnesota Twins' Jhoan Duran, The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported on Wednesday. Other teams include the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, New YorkMets and Seattle Mariners. Mark Fenisand added that the Twins could move Duran as early as Wednesday. Duran is having a strong season for the Twins. The right-hander has a 2.01 ERA in 49 appearances with 53 strikeouts and 18 walks. He's also recorded 16 saves. The Red Sox do have an established closer in Aroldis Chapman, who has a 1.29 ERA in 46 appearances. And it's worth noting MassLive's Sean McAdam reported on Tuesday that, 'to date, the Red Sox don't seem to have been engaged' on any relievers. Things can change with just one phone call, however. Going into Wednesday's finale against the Twins, the Red Sox are 58-51 and hold onto a Wild Card spot.
