SpiceJet inks damp-lease agreement for five Boeing 737s planes ahead of winter schedule
The airline currently has 13 Boeing 737s and six regional jets in operation, out of a total of 53 aircraft in its fleet, according to aircraft fleet tracking website Planespotter.com. The remaining 34 remain on the ground.
On July 25, the airline also made a similar announcement for five leased aircraft.
"SpiceJet has finalised a lease agreement for another five Boeing 737 aircraft, further strengthening its fleet ahead of the upcoming winter schedule," the airline said in a statement on Wednesday.
While most of these aircraft are scheduled to join the fleet in October, a few are expected to arrive a couple of weeks earlier, the airline said.
These additions will cater to the peak winter season and extend into the early summer season of 2026, remaining with the airline until May 2026, the airline said, adding the aircraft will be inducted under damp-lease arrangements.
In a damp-lease arrangement, the operational crew is shared between the operator and the airline.
SpiceJet said the airline is in advanced discussions to lease more aircraft ahead of the winter 2025 schedule, which starts from October every year.

AI Express to start flights to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Dehradun in September
Synopsis Air India Express is set to broaden its operational footprint by introducing new flights to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun starting in September 2025. The airline will operate two daily flights on the Ahmedabad-Bengaluru and Chandigarh-Bengaluru routes, along with daily flights between Dehradun and Bengaluru. The airline, which has a fleet of 116 planes, operates over 500 flights daily. "With the addition of Ahmedabad and Chandigarh from September 1, 2025, and Dehradun from September 15, 2025, Air India Express will operate across 41 domestic and 17 international destinations," the airline said in a release on Thursday. There will be two daily flights on the Ahmedabad-Bengaluru and Chandigarh-Bengaluru routes, and daily flights between Dehradun and Bengaluru. Air India Express Managing Director Aloke Singh said that having flights to the new destinations are part of a broader strategy to open new opportunities in high-potential markets. Over the first seven months of 2025, Etihad has transported 12.2 million passengers, reflecting a 17% year-on-year increase from the 10.4 million carried during the same period in 2024. The average load factor for the year so far has risen to 88%, compared to 86% in the equivalent period last year. These figures underscore steady and sustained demand across the airline's global network, contributing to its sharp rise in year-on-year performance.
