Diana Ross, 81, sparks concern after pulling out of performance

Metro2 days ago
Music legend Diana Ross has pulled out of a high-profile performance aboard Royal Caribbean's Star of the Seas, sparking concerns about her health.
The 81-year-old icon was due to headline a three-day showcase cruise launching on August 20 and had even been named the ship's official godmother.
However, in a shock announcement, her team confirmed on Tuesday that Ross would no longer be performing.
'Due to unforeseen circumstances, Diana Ross will be unable to appear,' her rep said in a statement to People.
No further details were given, leaving fans speculating about her condition just weeks after her dazzling set at the Henley Festival.
Ross was scheduled to lead the celebration for the Star of the Seas – state-of-the-art addition to Royal Caribbean's fleet – with a special naming ceremony and headline concert.
The event, departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, and heading to Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, was set to be one of the year's biggest at-sea entertainment launches.
Royal Caribbean has since confirmed they're searching for a new godmother, though Ross' absence has clearly left big shoes to fill.
'We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas,' the cruise line said in a statement.
Plans to crown a new godmother will be announced 'soon,' they added.
Back in June, Ross had expressed her excitement about the honour.
Ross had even invited her family to join her on the Royal Caribbean cruise before her sudden withdrawal.
'I am truly honoured to join the Royal Caribbean family,' she said in a press release at the time.
'Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.'
Royal Caribbean president and CEO Michael Bayley also praised her selection, calling her 'a true icon' and the perfect figure to represent the brand's celebratory spirit.
Despite the cancellation, Ross has reassured fans she'll still hit the road for her Beautiful Love U.S. tour, which kicks off on August 16 in Saratoga, California.
She's expected to make stops in Newark, Atlantic City, St. Louis, Lincoln, and more, before wrapping up in Palm Springs on December 13.
Over the weekend, Ross took to Instagram to share the full list of dates.
'It's good to be back home,' she wrote.
'The Beautiful Love Tour is coming to cities across the U.S. for unforgettable nights filled with music, memories, and joy.'
She added, 'The tour starts a week from today, on August 16th, at the @mountainwinery in Saratoga, CA. Come join the love celebration.'
Ross also offered some insight into how she's keeping well in her 80s, telling People in June that health and family remain her top priorities.
'I like staying busy,' she said. 'Because I love what I do, it keeps me grounded. I'm swimming a lot lately to stay flexible.'
The Motown queen admitted she's mindful of rest and diet – but not above the occasional indulgence.
'I must get my sleep, which is important to me,' she said. 'I do my best to eat well, but I do like Häagen-Dazs ice cream.'
The singer is a mother to five – including actor Evan Ross, who's married to Ashlee Simpson – and grandmother to eight.
Her family has always been a cornerstone of her life, something she speaks about often and with pride.
'And my family is equally everything to me,' she told People. 'I have been very blessed in my life. I love what I do. I love my family. I love my life. I'm a happy person.'
She also shared her thoughts on staying young at heart.
'The love of what I do keeps me grounded, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually,' she said. 'When you can't find the sunshine, be the sunshine.' More Trending
Ross rose to fame in the 1960s as the lead singer of The Supremes, the best-selling girl group of all time.
Hits like Baby Love, You Can't Hurry Love, and Stop! In the Name of Love turned her into a global star.
She later went solo, delivering classics such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Endless Love, I'm Coming Out, and Chain Reaction.
Ross has earned 13 Grammy nominations and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award twice – once as a solo artist in 2012, and again in 2023 with The Supremes.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian play detective as they seek to solve mysterious cruise ship disappearance of Amy Bradley

Kim and Khloe Kardashian are reportedly trying to help solve the viral Amy Bradley missing persons case. Amy was just 23 when she mysteriously vanished in the early morning hours of March 21, 1998 while aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship with her family. The nearly 30-year-old case has garnered renewed interest following the release of the investigative three-part Netflix documentary, Amy Bradley Is Missing. Kim called the documentary 'mind blowing' in an Instagram Story post shared last month with her 355million followers. 'We must find Amy! This is so crazy @netflix,' the SKIMS founder, 44, wrote. The post caught the attention of Amy's distraught brother, Brad, who recently told TMZ that he tried contacting Kim via DM asking her to 'help [raise] awareness.' And now, the outlet is reporting that Kim and her younger sister Khloe, 40, have gotten in contact with the Bradley family directly — specifically, Amy's mother, Iva — in the hopes of aiding them in their ongoing search. Daily Mail has reached out to Kim and Khloe's representatives for comment. Sources claimed that Kim and Khloe personally contacted Iva via phone last Thursday to discuss the details of Amy's case and where the investigation currently stands. According to TMZ's insiders, Kim and Khloe were most intrigued by one suspicious detail in the documentary relating to a Barbados-based IP address, which has reportedly frequented the Amy Bradley Is Missing website. They reportedly spoke to to the Bradley family matriarch for 'about an hour.' The phone call was not filmed for the Kardashians' Hulu reality TV show as the sisters were solely focused on 'listening and brainstorming' with Iva about how they could help. The Bradley family are hopeful that Amy may still be still alive despite her being missing for nearly three decades. Kim involvement could prove beneficial as she's no stranger to the justice system, with the star having successfully advocated for clemency for several inmates along with studying law for the last seven years. The billionaire mogul completed her law program earlier this year, which puts her one step closer to becoming a lawyer like her late father Robert Kardashian. Kim and Khloe's alleged contact with the Bradley family comes shortly after Amy's brother spoke out about her mysterious disappearance 27 years ago. Amy, a recent college graduate, had set off on a seven-day trip with her parents and younger brother Brad from the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan on Saturday, March 21, 1998. Two days later, as they set sail for the island of Curacao, Amy and Brad partied at the ship's nightclub, after which she was seen resting on her balcony. But when her father checked on her early the next morning, she had gone, leaving no trace apart from a polo shirt and some sandals - and she has not been seen since. The case has made headlines once more as it's re-investigated Netflix's new Amy Bradley Is Missing documentary. It arrived on the streaming platform on July 16 and has since opened the floodgates for new theories and speculation over what happened. Amy's brother Brad shared what he believes happened to his sister while speaking on British TV to 'This Morning' hosts Emma Willis and Joel Dommett. The Bradleys have always been adamant that Amy neither fell nor jumped from their balcony, because she was scared of how high it was. Joining the ITV show on via link with his mother, Brad said from Virginia: 'Well obviously we don't know where she is. 'Since the show came out we've gotten thousands of tips, leads and people sending prayers, love and different ideas. 'We think what happened to Amy was that she was targeted.' 'She was seen, taken and removed from the ship and we believe she was trafficked into some kind of sex trade situation,' Brad continued. 'Obviously we need that one person who knows something to come forward and help us. 'Actually, I think there's more than one person who knows but we're waiting on that one call that breaks this thing open.' Before the release of Amy Bradley Is Missing, the family hoped the program would spark more tips, jog some memories and lead to real answers. However, her family have faced cruel trolling and backlash from Netflix viewers. Brad previously told Daily Mail that the documentary has been particularly difficult for his mother. 'Back then, there was no cell phones, there was not a whole lot of internet going on, there was no social media,' he said. 'There was none of that.' 'The upcoming series has been really tough on Mom, mostly, emotionally,' he added. 'And Dad obviously doesn't like that part of it for all of us.'

Emmerdale confirms major Charity and Ross twist as the baby might not be Sarah's

Last week, ITV soap Emmerdale delivered a massive storyline twist. In tonight's episode, they did the exact same thing again. The plot development last Thursday saw Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) kiss her ex Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). Prior to this, Charity decided to get drunk in the pub following a massive row with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). She then ended up back at Vanessa's, who wanted to help Charity sober up. Charity kissed Vanessa, but we didn't see what happened next. In the episode last Friday and then the ones that have aired this week so far, it was just sort of suggested that their kiss should be left in the past and was considered a mistake. In tonight's episode, Charity headed to the hospital with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), Mack and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant). They went for another scan, with Charity under the impression her first embryo transfer hadn't worked. In the room, the doctor confirmed that Charity is pregnant. The group were completely thrilled. It was definitely a bit of a shock, considering the fall and Charity's bleeding, but the doctor smiled – there was a heartbeat. The family returned home and set about organising a little celebratory afternoon in the pub. Once the likes of Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) arrived, the news was revealed, and they were all elated. It was at this point that things started to change, as Ross Barton (Michael Parr) wandered in. He caught up on the development and spoke to Charity outside. She was on edge, and the flashback scene quickly allowed us to understand why. After kissing Vanessa, Charity was thrown out of her house. She stumbled through the street and then came across Ross, who was miserable following the departure of Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay). The two characters kissed, and then had sex. Is Ross the father of Charity's baby? Back in present day, with knowledge that Charity is now pregnant, Ross couldn't help but wonder if the baby is his. Charity denied this, telling Ross their sex was meaningless and the baby belongs to Sarah and Jacob – but this is all just words. Until a DNA test is conducted, neither of them will really know the truth. For Ross, star Michael Parr told us that his character absolutely doesn't believe what Charity is saying about the pregnancy: 'I think he's desperate to find out the answer because it comes with such responsibility, having another child, it's a lot of pressure on him because he's not doing so well with work right now and his living situation isn't ideal as he's always swapping and changing. 'Plus he's just met his brother Lewis. There's a lot going on for him in his head, so he just needs to get to the bottom of this. So he can get a good night's sleep.' So, what will the outcome be? Is Charity pregnant with Ross' baby? And if so, could she lie to Jacob and Sarah for nine months and allow them to believe they're about to become parents? Things were already pretty complicated but now, after this, everything has suddenly got incredibly messy. Let's not forget that if Ross is the father of the baby, it will create even more problems for Charity and Mackenzie, who has always wanted more children. 'There are so many emotions going on which again, you know puts more of a spotlight onto Charity's awful secret and dilemma', Emma Atkins said. 'The situation was awful to begin with as it began with poor Sarah's position. It's so sad for Sarah as her situation is awful. She so wanted a child but can't physically have one. And in real life there are poor girls in that situation with cervical cancer or who have had to have a hysterectomy. More Trending 'So Charity had good intentions initially to help Sarah in her plight to have a child but now it's clashing with the awful situation she's in. The fact Mack is now so upset as he and Charity lost a baby and it was Mack's dream was to have a child with Charity but Charity told him way back when that it wasn't going to happen. She added: 'She wasn't going to go down that route again. But now she has but for someone else. He's rightfully hurt by this although wanting to support her.' 'There are just so many layers to this story. So Charity had thought she had closed the door on having another child and that prospect killed Mackenzie in many ways – she was aware of that so Charity now holds all that guilt. Of how he is feeling. View More » 'And now this new situation so this all comes back up to haunt her and it's just a sort of whirlpool of awfulness. And what will she do?.' Emmerdale's Charity Dingle star teases 'amazing' scenes as surrogacy plot 'implodes'

Emmerdale's Charity Dingle actress Emma Atkins has shared all about the chaotic scenes ahead on the ITV soap after her character's latest lie amid a surrogacy storyline Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle in Emmerdale, has revealed all on the "messy" storyline her character is now at the centre of. A twist on Thursday saw her outed as having cheated on her husband Mackenzie Boyd. ‌ But it wasn't with her ex Vanessa Woodfield after a recent kiss, and instead we learned she had slept with another former flame. Ross Barton dropped the bombshell that he and Charity had slept together recently, sparking a DNA scandal. ‌ It comes as Charity learned the was pregnant amid her offering to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and her partner Jacob Gallagher. Charity had undergone an embryo transfer prior to her dalliance with Ross, but believed it had not taken after she suffered bleeding. ‌ This led to a devastated Charity hitting the bottle, and she soon ended up at Vanessa's home. But despite a kiss, nothing else happened as flashbacks revealed Vanessa kicked her out of the house, horrified by her actions. The flashbacks revealed something else too though, and it's then that we saw Charity and Ross kissing. In present day Ross then asked Charity if the baby was his, confirming the pair had slept together that night. Now Emma has revealed all on the huge twist and what it means for those involved in the storyline. She teased: "There's just so many avenues now of dilemma - she's stuck in this hellhole of what do I do next and who do I turn to and it's cataclysmic holding in that kind of secret. "Surely at some point she's definitely going to implode. I think the audience enjoys witnessing that, don't they? They like to witness someone holding a secret. "Who is she going to tell, who's going to find out, when will Ross cotton on fully? There's all of these things spinning through her mind." She promised "amazing" scenes ahead and revealed Charity is "such a mess" as a result of what she's done. ‌ Emma revealed: "This has created a huge element of conflict for her and as an actor you can't hope for a better storyline. When you're just in the midst of chaos, dilemma and moral questioning of your own character. "It makes you go, how are you going to get yourself out of this one? And I know the audience will just be like, oh my God, what will she do? Who can she tell? Because I think they all are going to immediately jump to the idea of, hang on then it's not Sarah and Jacob's baby. "I think it is just a jaw dropping moment for those that have followed the storyline. Because it just ups the stakes with everything. Sarah's just got this desperate need to be a mum, Charity's so desperate to please Sarah in that, she feels her vocation is being this vessel to carry this child. There's so much at stake for them and the audience finding this out, is just that amazing moment. It's a good soap moment, a gift."
