Transfer recommendations ahead of Gameweek 36: Eberechi Eze to light up Wembley?

The Sun15-05-2025

DREAM TEAM managers must confirm their transfers for Gameweek 36 before Friday's 6pm deadline - that's earlier than usual so take care.
The FA Cup and Europa League finals mean that Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United United are the four teams set to pull double duty.

With fixtures at a premium at this late stage of the season, our latest transfer recommendations are focused on the upcoming double headers.
Bruno Fernandes (£7m)
Man United's captain is firmly in the category of 'blindingly obvious' as Dream Team's second-highest points scorer this season but we're leaving nothing to chance.
An ownership of 34.7% makes him the fifth-most popular player in the game but it could be argued that he should be number one at this stage.
Ruben Amorim has said that his team selection for Friday night's Premier League game at Stamford Bridge will not be overly disrupted by next Wednesday's Europa League final.
This means Fernandes is likely to get significant minutes against both Chelsea and Spurs in the penultimate Gameweek of the campaign.
The Portuguese midfielder averages eight point-per-game having scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists in 2024/25.
4
Eberechi Eze (£5.1m)
An 18-point haul at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend has put Crystal Palace's No10 firmly in the spotlight.
The Eagles will start as underdogs at Wembley but Eze has the ability to hurt Man City - Pep Guardiola's men have shipped 69 goals in all competitions this season!
The skilful midfielder is statistically Dream Team's most in-form player (last three games) at present, with team-mate Ismaila Sarr (£4m) joint-third in the same metric.
Oliver Glasner's side are due to face Wolves at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night.
Much of the same logic applies to Daniel Munoz (£5.1m) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (£4m).
4
Josko Gvardiol (£4.7m)
Erling Haaland (£7.8m) is currently the second-most popular recruit ahead of Gameweek 36 but there's no need to waste anyone's data explaining why the 352-point striker might be worth a punt.
Although many gaffers were left underwhelmed when he scraped just two points upon his return from injury against Southampton last weekend.
Dream Team bosses keen on Man City assets should consider Gvardiol - the Croatian defender has notched 32 points across his last three outings.
Guardiola's side can't afford to slack off in the league with the fight for Champions League qualification set to go down to the wire and so Gvardiol, important player that he is, may well start at home to Bournemouth in midweek as well as Saturday's cup final.
No Dream Team defender has scored more goals than the 23-year-old this season.
4
Ollie Watkins (£4.4m) and/or Morgan Rogers (£4.3m)
Away from the double headers, there might be some cheap points on offer at Villa Park on Friday night.
Ange Postecoglou will rightly be prioritising his date with destiny in Bilbao and may therefore select a second-string XI to face Aston Villa.
In contrast, the Villains will be highly motivated to put pressure on their rivals for Champions League qualification with a swaggering win.
If that proves to be the case, the likes of Watkins and Rogers could feast.

Marseille reach ‘agreement in principle' to sign England midfielder Angel Gomes

The former Manchester United youngster is set to become a free agent when his contract with another French side in Lille expires at the end of this month. The 24-year-old could also be joined by Burnley's CJ Egan-Riley at the Stade Velodrome after the Clarets confirmed the defender had rejected the offer of a new deal at Turf Moor. His performances have since earned him four England caps. He had been linked with West Ham and Tottenham but has opted for Marseille, where he will link up with another former United player in Mason Greenwood. A statement from Marseille read: 'Olympique de Marseille announces that it has reached an agreement in principle with Angel Gomes regarding the arrival of the English international midfielder at the club.' Egan-Riley, who is a graduate of Manchester City's youth programme, impressed as Burnley secured promotion back to the Premier League last season but was also out of contract this summer. The Lancashire side were keen for the 22-year-old to stay but have accepted he wishes to move on. They confirmed the centre-back's departure in a statement which referred to him joining an unnamed Ligue 1 club. It has been widely claimed that is Marseille. The statement added: 'Burnley Football Club can confirm that it has been informed by the representatives of CJ Egan-Riley that the England U21 international defender has now formally rejected the club's offer of a significant long-term contract with the club. 'Despite the club's commitment to securing CJ's long-term future and the substantial investment offered, CJ has made the decision to pursue an opportunity in France.'

Under-21 games in the Premier League 2 can now be live streamed even if they clash with fixtures on Sky Sports or TNT Sports. Official club channels are ready to "take the lead" in showing the action. But there are rumours of a TV deal in the coming years should viewing figures be significant. Viewers have long complained about MUTV not showing enough youth-team fixtures live. Just 14 of 35 Under-21 games were shown last season and just eight of those were Premier League 2 clashes. Manchester Evening News report that the in-house channel was impacted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's brutal job cuts. Man United agree £1m deal for highly rated 16-year-old Southampton defender Harley Emsden-James

Manchester United have agreed a £1m deal for 16-year-old Harley Emsden-James from Southampton. United will also pay add-ons for the defender while Saints have a 20 per cent sell on. Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were among the clubs interested in signing the teenager last summer. The acquisition of Emsden-James is the latest example of United's efforts to poach highly rated talent from other Premier League sides. His arrival follows the signings of Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal last season, who were both handed first-team minutes during the campaign. Emsden-James got his first taste of Under 18s football during the 2024-25 season, making two appearances despite being only 15-years-old. He is likely to be part of the Red Devils' U18s squad next term. Given he will not turn 17 until March 2026, it is unlikely he will be handed regular minutes at U21 level. Meanwhile, in what is expected to be a busy summer for United, the club are continuing talks for Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo after last week's opening offer of £55million was rejected. The Red Devils were dealt a blow last weekend when reports emerged that Tottenham were entering the race for the 25-year-old. Mbeumo is seen as a key target for United, who are looking to improve their lacklustre squad after a dreadful campaign. The Red Devils scored just 44 goals in the Premier League, the second lowest of any non-relegated side.
