The Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple in Tiruchanur is getting a facelift ahead of the 'Varalakshmi Vratham' festival, which will be observed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Asthana Mandapam on August 8 (Friday).
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the temple, is making elaborate arrangements under the 'Sowbhagyam' programme. The festivities will be live telecast through Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel (SVBC), and will also be displayed on LED screens installed around the temple for the benefit of the visiting devotees.
A special set comprising divine materials such as 'Akshatha', 'Pasupudaram', 'Kankanam', Sri Lakshmi Ashtottara Satanamavali book, vermilion and bangles will be distributed to female devotees visiting the 51 TTD temples located across the two Telugu States on this day, under the 'Sowbhagyam' programme.
The authorities are planning to provide special queue lines, enhance 'Annaprasadam', drinking water facilities and improve sanitation, while impressive electrical illumination, floral decoration and 'rangolis' are expected to be a highlight this time. In the evening, the processional idol of Goddess Padmavati Ammavaru will be taken on golden chariot on the streets around the shrine.

Shwetha Menon becomes 1st woman President of Malayalam film body, says 'don't expect miracles'

In a landmark moment for the Malayalam film industry, actor Shwetha Menon has been elected as the first woman president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). Her victory follows a year of turmoil after the resignation of the Mohanlal-led committee in August 2024, which stepped down in the wake of the explosive Hema Committee report that exposed widespread issues including sexual misconduct and pay disparity within the industry. Reacting to her election, Menon stated, 'I haven't planned anything. I am just waiting for the first meeting to happen. I don't have an agenda. I do have my personal plan, but I need to discuss this because this is a very serious matter. And though it's 506 people, for me it's a big family and I need to keep everyone together. ' She added, "As a woman, I feel we are multitaskers and to do this I think it's not going to be that difficult. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I am able to do something really good and I'm looking forward to it. But it's going to be baby steps — please don't expect miracles, but yes, we will be doing something for a change." Lakshmi Priya was elected Vice President, with Kukku Parameshwaran and Ansiba Hasan as Joint Secretary and General Secretary respectively. Unni Shivapal won the position of Treasurer. Menon's win comes during what is being described as the most controversial election in AMMA's history, marred by personal disputes and legal battles. Of the organisation's 506 eligible members, only 298 cast their votes, a significant drop from the 70 per cent polling rate in the previous election to just 58 per cent this year. Notably absent from the voting process were major stars such as Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, Nivin Pauly, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Asif Ali.

Coolie (Hindi) Day 2 Box Office: Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj film jumps to Rs 6.50 crore on Independence Day

The Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj-led Coolie has seen a 50 percent jump in collections on the second day as early trends indicate Independence Day business in the range of Rs 6.25 crore to Rs 6.75 crore. With this, the two-day total of Coolie stands at Rs 10.75 crore, and the film will be looking at an extended opening weekend in the range of Rs 20.00 crore. The Independence Day jump should have been bigger, but the reports are probably mixed, curtailing the chances of a big number. At one point of time through the advance sales cycle based on the trends, Coolie looking like a Rs 6.50 crore opener, but the film settled with a first day of Rs 4.25 crore. The film is doing well in single screens and will probably be the second highest-grossing Tamil Film in Hindi by the end of its run, which is good for optics, but the success tag would depend on the business it does post Monday. The film has faced competition with War 2 in Hindi, and could have done better without the opponent, as both the films catered largely to the masses. Coolie is continuing to do well in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and even Andhra Pradesh/Telangana on the second day, though some early cracks are visible on the second day in international markets. The Independence Day holiday has helped Coolie, though the jump had the scope to be higher given that the film has seen a release on about 1400 screens in North India. Here's a look at day-wise box office of Coolie Thursday: Rs 4.25 crore Friday: Rs 6.50 crore (Estimates) Total: Rs 10.75 crore Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates!

Box Office Trends: War 2 (Hindi) set for a good jump on Independence Day; Hrithik Roshan and NTR starrer hits Rs 70 crore in 2 days

After opening at Rs 28.00 crore on Thursday, the Hrithik Roshan and NTR-led War 2 has seen a good jump in collections on Independence Day. As per very early trends, War 2 is tracking to hit the Rs 40 crore mark on the second day, taking two days total around the Rs 70 crore mark in Hindi. While this isn't exactly a great number for a film of this scale on Independence Day, but due to sub-par reports on opening day, there was a fear of muted growth too. The spike in business on the second day will keep War 2 afloat for the weekend, and in the race of hitting the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of its run, though the fate will be decided by the hold in collections from Monday. The jumps today are all across the board – be it the single screens or the multiplexes - for this Hrithik Roshan, and NTR film. It's a jump of almost 50 percent on the second day, coming off a non-holiday, and the film will be looking to stay steady on Saturday and Sunday as well. The apt comparison for a day-on-day trend for War 2 in Hindi should be made with Fighter now, as even that was a Thursday release leading to a National Holiday on Friday, though War 2 has a holiday benefit on Saturday too, which the former didn't have. The Hindi version has started to drive the business of War 2 now, as there is a dip in business down South, and the gap between the two will continue to increase in the days to come. An article on All India box office of War 2 will follow. War 2 (Hindi) Day Wise Box Office Thursday: Rs 28.00 crore Friday: Rs 42.00 crore (Expected) Total: Rs 70.00 crore
