KUCHING (June 28): A new health clinic valued at RM16 million will be built in the Simpang Layar area of Betong, announced Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said the facility is in addition to two other major healthcare projects in Spaoh – a RM36 million health clinic, and a RM5 million haemodialysis centre.
All three projects are undertaken by the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
'On behalf of the people in Betong Division, I must thank our Premier for the commitment and the RM15 billion development allocation,' said Uggah during a Gawai Dayak gathering hosted by Saribas Social and Recreational Club at a hotel here on Friday.
According to the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, residents of Betong have seen many impactful projects coming their way, including the road connecting Sri Aman to Betong town.
'This road, as part of the Second Trunk Road, is expected to be completed next year. Once done, it will reduce driving time between the two towns to about 30 minutes,' said the Bukit Saban assemblyman.
Highlighting modern farming as the way forward, Uggah said a 1,000-acre area for agropark and several anchor companies to spearhead the development with landowners, had been identified.
On another matter, Uggah also encouraged the Saribas Social and Recreational Club, with its 34 years in history, to recruit more young members.
The Deputy Premier later announced allocations totalling RM180,000 for the club and its cooperative, presented mementos to the club's president and Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu and other members, and awarded incentives to 26 outstanding students in Betong.
Also present at the gathering was former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang. Betong douglas uggah Health Clinic Simpang Layar

New health clinic to be built in Betong

KUCHING: A health clinic costing RM16 million will be built in the Simpang Layar area of Betong, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. He said the clinic would complement two other proposed medical facilities in the Spaoh area of Betong - a RM36 million clinic and a RM5 million haemodialysis centre. Uggah attributed these developments to the establishment of the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA). 'We have seen many high-impact projects coming our way. Another project we are eagerly anticipating is the completion of the road from Sri Aman to Betong town. 'This road, which is part of the Second Trunk Road project, is expected to be completed next year and will reduce travel time between the two towns to about 30 minutes,' he said in a statement today. Uggah reiterated that he would continue to focus on creating more income-generating economic activities and promoting education excellence in Betong. 'We view modern farming as the way forward. Toward this end, we have identified an area of 1,000 acres for our agro park, and we have also identified several companies to spearhead the development with landowners,' he added.
