Apple TV+ axes six shows including one with perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes
The lineup for Apple TV+ has been announced for the autumn season
Apple TV+ has revealed its lineup for the next season, and it means the end of six shows on the streaming platform. Several fan favourite programmes have been given the green light for a new series, including Trying, starring Rafe Spall and Esther Smith, Seth Rogan's smash hit Studio and German dark comedy series Where's Wanda?
There will also be a raft of new content, with upcoming possible hit s in the shape of The Wild Ones and Chief of war.
As 2025-2026 shapes up to be a belter for Apple TV+, channel chiefs will be hoping for a repeat of smash hit originals which caught the attention of fans across the globe, including Ted Lasso and the recent sci-fi hit Severance, which has surpassed the former as the platform's most watched show of this year.
Severance has been renewed for another series, which is sure to delight its army of die-hard fans. Other viewers could be left a bit disappointed by the news that six shows face the axe, which are Acapulco, Mythic Quest, Schmigadoon!, Still Up, Sunny, and Time Bandits, many of which were big hitters among critics and viewers alike.
Acapulco, an American comedy series centred around the gorgeous Las Colinas was a huge success and has a near perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes but it's not going to continue after its fourth season.
Out of those facing the chop, there are three that were in production for just one season. These include Still Up, a British drama about two friends who bond over insomnia.
Also heading for the cutting room floor are fantasy adventure Time Bandits, which is based on characters from the 1981 film of the same name, and Sunny, Rashida Jones' sci-fi set in Japan which follows a women whose husband and son have vanished after a mysterious pane crash.
Jones spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how she wishes more people had seen the programme, which also has a 90 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
She said: 'I wish there was a little bit more awareness about our show. Not gonna lie.
"I think [Sunny] is finding its audience because people seem to like it and a lot of people talk to me about it. What [Apple] do have is they have really good taste, and they do make really good shows."

Schmigadoon! was cancelled after its second season. The musical comedy fantasy series features a busy cast led by Saturday Night Live's Cecily Strong and comedian Keegan-Michael Key.
Mythic Quest, axed after four seasons, is a comedy series which follows a video game developer team and it's the brainchild of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day. The programme ended on March 26 and in a rare move, show runners were allowed to edit it to give fans closure over the cliffhanger ending.
Day and the creators said via Deadline: 'Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We're so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning.
"Because endings are hard, with Apple's blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over."

Not as good after, bay began this term with a near-miss to Sardinian Warrior at that track. That is terrific form so the five-year-old can put that run to good use in another hot event. Mademoiselle (2:10) can turn on the style for George Scott in the Three-Year-Old Dash. The sprinter built on some solid efforts when brushing aside Bella Love in a Thirsk maiden. She kept up the good work with a game defeat of Nightbird in a trappy novice at Southwell. The filly was even better when narrowly denied by Ruby's Profit on her return at Goodwood. The Team Amo raider should be primed so she can turn the tables on her foe at these weights. Clarendon House (2:45) can make his class tell for Robert Cowell in the Epsom Dash. The gelding recorded another personal best when routing Erosandpsyche in a Cork Listed event. The seven-year-old then struggled to match that performance with some lesser form up in class. However, he hit back when comfortably denying Marshman back in a Listed event at Southwell. The bay was as good as ever when third to Rumstar in the Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket. The speedster remains on song so he can shrug-off a welter-burden back in handicap company. War Hawk (5:00) can swoop for Team Crisford in the competitive Lester Piggott Handicap. The gelding benefited from stepping up to 1m 2f when hosing up from Bownder at Lingfield. Lacklustre at Nottingham, he returned to form with a superb second to Gunship at Newcastle. The bay didn't mind switching back to turn when hacking up from Magellan Cloud at Chester. The three-year-old scored with plenty in hand so he can land a better event for his in-form yard. Circe (5:40) looks absolutely spell-binding for Richard Hannon in the closing Tokyo Trophy. The filly go her act together when second to Cruyff Turn over seven furlongs at Doncaster. She continued her revival when just denying Santa Savana dropped in trip at Newmarket. The four-year-old raised her game again with a game defeat of Change Sings at Windsor. Inside Saw's future as 'disagreements' over film left horror franchise 'dead'
The Saw films were a staple of 2000s horror, introducing fans to the twisted, torturous traps of the iconic Jigsaw killer. Directed by James Wan and co-written with Leigh Whannell, the first film was released in 2004 in which serial killer Jigsaw imprisoned Adam Stanheight ( Whannell) and Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) with the purpose of subjecting them to a series of puzzles to escape. Across the franchise, Jigsaw – or John Kramer (Tobin Bell), as the jaw-dropping ending of the first film reveals – has attracted acolytes who have continued his twisted games spanning 10 films so far. Released in 2023, Saw X took us back in time to the period between Saw and Saw II in which Kramer desperately seeks life-saving treatment following his cancer diagnosis, but is instead duped by con artists and enacts his bloody revenge. Soon after its release, an 11th film was announced, but the production of Saw XI has been anything but smooth with delays, a cancellation, and rumours of behind-the-scenes drama. With a potential lifeline for the legendary horror series now in the mix, we take a look at what exactly is going on with Saw XI. Following the runaway success of Saw X, it was confirmed in December 2023 that Saw XI was on its way. Saw X landed the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating for any film in the franchise, grossing a whopping $125million (£92.3m) worldwide. It was announced that Kevin Greutert, who directed the 10th film, would be returning for Saw XI, and Bell would also be reprising his role as the iconic John Kramer. Co-writer Patrick Melton – who penned Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw 3D – teased what fans could expect from the 'very timely' plot of the 11th installment. 'It taps into the same themes of Saw VI, where you're a citizen, you feel angry and frustrated with something, you feel like you can't do anything, and John Kramer's going to do it,' he told The Hollywood Reporter. Given Bell's return, it seems the 11th film was set to be another prequel set between the events of Saw and Saw II, which could have meant we would see Shawnee Smith's Amanda Young hit the big screen again. A post-credit scene from Saw X also saw Costas Mandylor reprise his role as police detective turned Jigsaw disciple Mark Hoffman, which could mean he was set to star in Saw XI though this was never confirmed. Speaking to SFX magazine, producer Oren Koules hinted that it would be a direct follow-up to the events of Saw X. 'Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are in a foreign country still. So that, to me, would be the natural place to take at least the next one,' he revealed. Saw XI was originally set to be released on September 27 of the same year, but was delayed until September this year, it was announced in April 2024. Never Let Go, starring Halle Berry, took the film's original release date. Two Lionsgate titles saw their release dates change in the same announcement – the remake of The Crow and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. After a period of silence over the film, sources told Bloody Disgusting that Saw XI was 'totally, 100% dead' due to disagreements at studio level. The report, released on March 27, claimed 'everything went sideways in January 2024' due to producers fighting. 'It's totally dead,' the insider said. 'It's 100% over. Almost a year now.' They claimed that one producer attempted to 'plough forward' with production, while the other 'put up roadblocks' that halted production. '[Lionsgate] didn't have anyone to smooth over the disagreement,' the source added, claiming 'greed and ego won.' Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Melton confirmed the claims that the movie has 'stalled at a managerial level.' 'The reason it's held up is just, there's inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can't quite get on the same page,' he said. He continued: 'It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There's higher-level things at play.' Greutert also addressed the apparent cancellation in a Reddit post, writing: 'Let's just say that this past year+ has been among the saddest and most frustrating of my life.' A week after the damning news of the Saw XI cancellation, fans were offered an unusual glimmer of hope. The franchise's killer mascot, Billy the Puppet, posted a cryptic statement suggesting the game is far from over. 'I've seen the rumors. They say it's Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over,' the tricycle-riding puppet said in a statement shared by Lionsgate. But at the same time, it was announced that Saw XI had been completely removed from Lionsgate's release schedule, seemingly sealing its fate. Which brings us to June 4, 2025, when Deadline reported that Blumhouse is allegedly in the process of acquiring perspective rights to Twisted Pictures' portion of Saw. If the deal goes ahead, Blumhouse would take over the ownership of the franchise rights from Twisted Pictures owners Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Lionsgate would still be involved in the project, seeing as the company owns 50% of the franchise. More Trending If Blumhouse takes over the Saw franchise, and therefore Saw XI, it would mean Saw is reunited with co-creator James Wan following Blumhouse's merger with his company Atomic Monster. It is unknown what stage the deal is at, as Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures, and Blumhouse have not yet addressed the report. It could mean that Saw XI has been brought back from the dead by Blumhouse, famed for titles such as Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious, Sinister, and many more. The track takes aim at the gilded cage of privilege she's been raised in, but many are divided on whether it's a salient satire or an out-of-touch cry for attention from a spoiled nepo baby. 'My world is heartless, tasteless, nameless, famous,' she sings in the chorus, her voice floating over polished production. The lyrics are blunt: red carpets are hollow, wealth is numbing, and fame is boring. 'Recreate scenes from Titanic on a flying bridge yacht / Just to feel something real,' she sighs, painting a picture of a decadent yet unhappy childhood. The clip earned millions of views. 'They don't want me to be a nepotism kid,' she said, referring to her parents' social media ban.
