There's been plenty of speculation about the NBA future of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James this offseason, and things took a wild new turn on Saturday. The 40-year-old James, who exercised his $52.6 million player option earlier this offseason, has made it known through his agent Rich Paul that he wants to win at least one more championship before he retires. "LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Paul said, via Yahoo Sports. "He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. "... We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him." What made things even more intriguing is the caption Raznatovic posted on his Instagram account along with the photo. "The summer of 2025 is the perfect time to make big plans for the fall of 2026! @kingjames @mavcarter," Raznatovic wrote. More Basketball: Angel Reese Sends Clear Message to WNBA About Salary Negotiations The cryptic post has several NBA fans buzzing about the possibility of a James-Jokic team up in Denver in 2026, especially given the number of reports that indicate the Lakers don't have much interest in keeping James around beyond next season. Many analysts believe the likeliest scenario for James sees him playing 2025 in Los Angeles with a revamped Lakers roster that already featured Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura and added Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia, before moving onto a new team in 2026. Despite being the oldest player in the NBA, James is still one of the most productive players in the game. He ranked 13th in the league in scoring (24.4 points per game), and finished sixth in assists (8.2 per game) and 22nd in rebounds (7.8 per game) in 2024.

Tennis star Anna Kalinskaya's dog rushes court after pro wins match

Russian tennis star Anna Kalinskaya defeated Emma Raducanu in the Citi D.C. Open on Saturday, and a familiar face joined her on the court to celebrate the victory. Kalinskaya's dog, a dachshund named Bella, ran onto the court. It was the second time the dog had come onto the hard court. Kalinskaya celebrated with Bella following a victory over Clara Tauson on Friday night. The happy canine was seen getting a bit rambunctious as it ran over to Kalinskaya. The tennis pro then held up her dog to the crowd to a round of applause from those still in the stadium. Kalinskaya will take on Leylah Fernandez in the final on Sunday. She defeated Raducanu, 6-4, 6-3 and topped Tauson 6-3, 7-5, on her way to the Fernandez matchup. Fernandez knocked off Elena Rybakina in the semis, and Taylor Townsend in the quarterfinals. Kalinskaya is ranked 48th in the Women's Tennis Association rankings, with her highest mark being 11th in the world. She has one singles title under her belt and is 307-189 in career singles matches. Tauson ousted Kalinskaya in the round of 64 at Wimbledon earlier this month. She lost in the first round of the French Open back May to Marie Bouzkova.

Cowboys sign TE Jake Ferguson to 4-year, $52 million extension

The Dallas Cowboys secured tight end Jake Ferguson for the foreseeable future, signing Dak Prescott's security blanket to a four-year extension worth $52 million, with $30 million guaranteed, the team announced Sunday. Ferguson was Dallas' fourth-round pick in 2022 and enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023. In his second year, Ferguson was given a bigger role after Dalton Schultz left for the Houston Texans in free agency. Ferguson responded with 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns. Ferguson was expected to build on that season but had a down year in 2024, catching 59 passes for 494 yards and zero touchdowns. Injuries were a contributing factor, as was the instability at quarterback after Prescott was lost for the season. 'I have zero doubts in my mind that his production will get back to where it was the year before,' Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said. 'I think last year was just kind of one of those years that you look back on your career and it was more of a fluke than anything.' ferg makes it official ✍️ 🔗: | @blockchain — Dallas Cowboys (@dallascowboys) July 27, 2025 The Cowboys currently have a contract situation dragging out publicly with star pass rusher Micah Parsons, but Parsons is in line to receive one of the largest contracts in NFL history. The Cowboys have been better about extensions with their players who aren't resetting markets, as evidenced by recent extensions to cornerback Trevon Diggs and Terence Steele, among others. Advertisement Ferguson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Along with Parsons, the Cowboys also have pending business with left guard Tyler Smith, cornerback DaRon Bland and kicker Brandon Aubrey, the latter two entering the final year of their deals, too. The Cowboys have obviously been taking a lot of heat for how long they wait to do contracts with their top players. While Ferguson is not on the level of Parsons, CeeDee Lamb or Prescott, this is an important signing for the franchise. Ferguson is clearly their top tight end. He had a breakout 2023 season but his play dropped off last year as he battled injuries and Dallas lost Prescott eight games into the season. A healthy Ferguson is expected to rebound this year in an offense that is loaded with weapons in the passing game. 'He's a great leader. He's lighter (this season). He's moving around really, really well,' Schottenheimer said. 'I think last year you look at the first game against Cleveland and he gets his knee pretty banged up. And then he's got a concussion midseason at some point.' Prescott has an excellent rapport with the tight end, so it would be no surprise to see Ferguson have another Pro Bowl season if both players stay healthy. This is a good deal for both sides. The top tight ends average around $19 million per year. This deal makes Ferguson the seventh-highest-paid player at his position, in terms of average annual salary. — Jon Machota, Cowboys beat writer
