Barcelona and Bayern legend's son, 20, has two-minute nightmare at U21 Euros and leaves pitch with head in hands

A BARCELONA and Bayern Munich legend's son had a nightmare couple of minutes at the Under-21 Euros.
Ruben van Bommel - son of Mark - started for Holland in their quarter-final clash with Portugal.

But he was sent off before the midway point of the first half in Slovakia.
Van Bommel Jr, 20, picked up his first yellow card for a shove on 19 minutes.
And in the 21st, he made a cynical tackle on Chelsea new-boy Geovany Quenda as the teenage winger tried to launch a counter attack.
That left Georgian referee Goga Kikacheishvili with a decision to make.
And he brandished a second yellow to send Van Bommel for an early bath.
The AZ youngster was evidently gutted.
He trudged off the pitch heartbroken with his head buried in his hands and covered by his shirt.
The 6ft 3ins star had a brief conversation with a member of the Dutch coaching staff before heading down the tunnel.
His captain Devyne Rensch remonstrated with the official but his protests came to nothing and Holland had to play three-quarters of the quarter-final with ten men.
Van Bommel - whose dad Mark was one of eight Dutchmen booked in the 2010 World Cup final - must have feared he had ruined his country's chances of European glory.
England u21s clash with Germany SUSPENDED as stadium plunged into semi-darkness and players taken off pitch
Especially when, just ten minutes after the red card, Rensch conceded a penalty.
But Quenda stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way... only to see his spot-kick cannon off the post and away.
The Dutch defence - featuring Ian Maatsen - stood firm for the remainder of the tie before substitute Ernest Poku grabbed a dramatic late winner for Holland to send them into the semis.

Man Utd new boy Benjamin Sesko hoping to emulate his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United's latest signing Benjamin Sesko is hoping to emulate his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the club's famous shirt. Slovenia international Sesko completed his move to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig at the weekend in a deal worth up to £73.7million. The 22-year-old revealed in his first interview on MUTV that former United striker Ibrahimovic, who spent almost two years at Old Trafford until 2018, was his hero. Sesko said: 'Since I've been small I've been watching him. Every single YouTube video that I can find because he's amazing for me. 'We don't have the same character, but I like to see the way he plays, the way he enjoys football, how everything works. 'It has been my dream to one day meet him, that would be great, so in general, he's my idol. 'We have a different playing style, but if there is any situation, I try to do the same as he did.' Sesko, who has made 41 senior appearances for his country, scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season. He also revealed he admired other former United strikers, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. 'Van Persie and Rooney, all those kind of guys,' Sesko said. 'I've also been watching them, of course, on the videos. They have been great. 'You can admire them a lot and I will also try to show myself in a good light here and try to help the team and the club to be as high as possible.' United completed their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years after finishing 15th in the Premier League table last season, but Sesko is convinced good times lie ahead. Head coach Ruben Amorim's attacking options have also been boosted by the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. 'For me the team is great, it's getting better and better,' Sesko said. 'I think it's just a great project in general and I can't wait to start, definitely. 'Together you can grow a lot. It can give you a lot of fresh power, fresh energy and I think it's going to be exciting in general.' On his hopes for his first season at Old Trafford, Sesko added: 'Just that we get better, that we connect together in general and as a team try to grow and grow together, step by step. 'It's just a matter of time when we can fly high again.'

Mario Balotelli 'targeted by Italian fourth tier side in shock move - as former Man City star looks for 13th club of career'

Mario Balotelli is reportedly being targeted by a fourth tier Italian side in what would be the 13th club of his career. Balotelli is remembered as one of the Premier League 's great characters after his spells with Manchester City and Liverpool, garnering headlines both on and off the pitch. He won the top prize in English football with City, assisting Sergio Aguero 's iconic injury time winner against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the season. The 34-year-old played for Serie A side Genoa last season but was released this summer after making just six appearances for the club. Balotelli is now a target for Italian fourth division side Pavia, according to Sky Sport Italia. Pavia, who play at a 4,999-capacity stadium, have been pursuing the striker for several months and are expected to table a formal offer in the near future. After leaving City in January 2013, Balotelli returned to Italy with AC Milan, scoring 12 goals in his first half-season. A move to Liverpool followed in 2014, but he struggled to make an impact at Anfield, netting just once in the Premier League before being loaned back to Milan. The forward rebuilt his reputation in France with a productive spell at Nice, where he scored 43 goals in 76 appearances, before a short stint at Marseille in 2019. Later that year, he signed for Brescia but departed after their relegation from Serie A. Balotelli then moved to Turkey in 2021, joining Adana Demirspor, where he enjoyed a prolific campaign, hitting 19 goals in 33 games. That was followed by a move to Switzerland with Sion before his most recent spell back in Italy. If he joins Pavia, it will mark the 13th club of a career that has taken him across five countries and seen him win league titles in both England and Italy.
