Mexican Navy ship crashes into Brooklyn Bridge (VIDEOS)
Two sailors were killed and many others injured when a Mexican Navy training ship collided with the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night.
The vessel lost power and drifted into the bridge during its departure from New York, according to officials.
Videos from the scene show the ARM Cuauhtemoc's three tall, illuminated masts crashing into the underside of the bridge's road deck and toppling onto the ship. Multiple crew members were stationed on the masts at the time of the impact, the New York Post reported, citing fire officials and unnamed sources. The outlet also said rescuers were seen pulling people from the water.
The ARM Cuauhtemoc was carrying 277 crew members when the incident occurred. New York City Mayor Eric Adams told reporters that at least 19 people were injured, including four in critical condition.
'The status of the personnel and material is under review by naval and local authorities, who are providing support,' the Mexican Navy said in a statement on X.
According to the Latin Times, the crew may have miscalculated the height of the ship's 171-foot masts in relation to the bridge's 127-foot clearance at high tide.
Despite the dramatic crash, officials have found no major structural damage to the bridge. The Cuauhtemoc had been in New York on a goodwill visit ahead of an international parade of tall ships next year in New York Harbor to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence.

A cargo vessel carrying more than 3,000 electric and hybrid vehicles from China to Mexico has caught fire in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Alaska. All 22 crew members evacuated unharmed aboard a lifeboat and were rescued by a nearby merchant vessel. According to a statement by the Alaska Coast Guard on Wednesday, the Morning Midas – a Liberian-flagged and UK-managed ship – sent a distress call on Tuesday afternoon while passing approximately 300 miles (490km) southwest of Adak Island. #UPDATE 1: All 22 crew members evacuated the ship onto a liferaft & were rescued by the vessel Cosco Hellas crew. The Alaska Coast Guard's spokeswoman, Petty Officer First Class Shannon Kearney, was quoted by the New York Times as saying that officials had decided to allow the fire to burn out and not attempt to extinguish it due to the risks posed by the lithium-ion batteries in the vehicles on board. This type of battery can cause an explosion when heated and also produces toxic gases if it catches fire. The Coast Guard representative noted, however, that it was too early to conclude that it was the electric and hybrid vehicles that ignited first. Zodiac Maritime, the company managing the cargo ship, said in a statement cited by the media that the blaze started at around 00:00 UTC on June 3. The crew initially attempted to put out the flames on their own but were unsuccessful.

Trump views Zelensky as ‘bad guy'
US President Donald Trump is frustrated with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, seeing him as a 'bad guy' who is pushing the world closer to nuclear conflict, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing sources. Unnamed Trump advisers told the NYT that the president is 'exasperated' with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky, but 'reserves special animosity' for the Ukrainian leader, who he has publicly criticized on several occasions. Although Trump has said it is 'understandable' that Ukraine wants to keep fighting, his stance toward Zelensky is notably harsher than toward Putin, the report says. The US president reportedly tends to be more deferential to his Russian counterpart, and previously believed that their 'very, very good relationship' would help end the conflict. Because of this, he has thus far refrained from imposing new sanctions on Moscow. On Wednesday, the two leaders held a 75-minute phone conversation in which Trump said they discussed Ukraine's recent attack on Russian airbases that reportedly host strategic aircraft. 'President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,' Trump said. The Kremlin confirmed the conversation. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said Putin informed Trump of Ukraine's efforts to derail peace talks between Moscow and Kiev, including 'terrorist' attacks on civilian targets. Ushakov was apparently referring to incidents of railroad sabotage in the regions of Bryansk and Kursk in which seven people died and more than 100 were injured. Following the call, Zelensky posted a statement on Telegram, saying: 'If the world reacts weakly to Putin's threats, then he perceives this as the world's readiness to turn a blind eye to his actions… If the strong do not stop Putin, it means that they share responsibility with him.' Trump previously engaged in a public spat with Zelensky when the two met at the White House in late February. At the time, the US president accused Zelensky of 'gambling with World War III,' and of being 'disrespectful' and ungrateful for American support.

Indian and Pakistani ‘dueling' delegations land in Washington
Delegations of both Indian and Pakistani diplomats and politicians have arrived in Washington to meet with US officials and present their side of the recent conflict between the two countries. India's delegation led by Shashi Tharoor, an MP for the opposition Indian National Congress party, landed in Washington on Wednesday to present its case about the terrorism allegedly emanating from Pakistan. 'Tomorrow almost they will be in Washington, while we are in Washington on the same date. So there's going to be perhaps an increase in interest because there are two dueling delegations in the same city,' Tharoor said in an interview with the news agency ANI. New Delhi has sent seven teams to over 30 countries to counter what it perceives as poor press coverage about the confrontation with Islamabad. External Affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India wants the world to 'hold Pakistan accountable' for what he claimed was 40 years of cross-border terrorism against India. An MP from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party told the Press Trust of India that the delegations sent across the world will convey India's message of 'zero tolerance against terrorism' and the 'propaganda they (Pakistan) have been doing since 1947.'The Pakistani delegation, which is led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was tasked by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to 'expose Indian propaganda,' state-run Pakistan Radio reported in May. After a brief but fierce military standoff, a ceasefire was announced on May 10. US President Donald Trump took credit for playing a role in the ceasefire, a claim that New Delhi rejected.
