Why this is a must-watch in Nvidia's earnings report
Nvidia's (NVDA) upcoming earnings day may boil down to one key question: Will China be part of its outlook? "If NVDA were to include China in its guidance, we believe it would contribute an incremental $2-3 billion in revenue," KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst John Vinh wrote in a new note. Vinh expects strong Q2 results, driven by demand for Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs. But he warned that guidance for Q3 could be conservative, given uncertainty around US export licenses to China. Still, KeyBanc reiterated its Overweight rating and lifted its price target to $215 from $190, pointing to Nvidia's central role in the AI boom and supply-demand dynamics that remain firmly in its favor. Nvidia's near-term growth story looks solid without China. Supply of Nvidia's Blackwell B200 GPU jumped 40% in Q2 and could rise another 20% in Q3, according to Vinh. Simultaneously, shipments of the more advanced Blackwell Ultra (B300) are ramping up, reinforcing Nvidia's dominance in AI chips. KeyBanc raised its full-year shipment forecast for Nvidia's rack-sale AI systems, known as GB200. The firm now expects 30,000 units to ship this year, up from 25,000 previously, citing stronger yields and improved supply-chain execution. For now, KeyBanc assumes Nvidia will exclude China revenue from its guidance. That mirrors the approach of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which earlier this month left China out of its outlook amid the same regulatory uncertainty. The Chinese impact on Nvidia is significant. KeyBanc raised its Q2 revenue estimate to $47.1 billion from $45.1 billion, above Wall Street's consensus of $45.7 billion. It raised earnings per share to $1.05 from $0.99, slightly above consensus of $1.00. But with Nvidia agreeing to pay 15% of Chinese chip sales to the US government, plus China's push for domestic AI chips, the company is likely to adopt a more conservative stance on its financial forecast. For Q3, KeyBanc cut its revenue estimates to $50.4 billion from $53.5 billion, versus a consensus of $52.6 billion. EPS was clipped to $1.14 from $1.22, below the Street's consensus of $1.19. Longer term, KeyBanc trimmed fiscal 2026 forecasts on China risks, but boosted 2027 expectations on stronger rack shipments due to accelerating spending by hyperscalers like Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), and Google (GOOG). Wall Street remains bullish. Morgan Stanley recently called Nvidia the most undervalued megacap stock in the market. Its shares are up more than 30% year to date and over 35% in the past 12 months. Japan proposes 'economic zone' linking Indian Ocean to Africa, seeks greater role in the region
YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Wednesday proposed an economic zone connecting the Indian Ocean to Africa as the country seeks to play a greater role in the African continent while America's presence there decreases and China's influence rapidly grows. Ishiba, kicking off the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), pledged to strengthen business and investment in the region and promote free trade by connecting the Indian Ocean region to the African continent. 'Japan believes in Africa's future," Ishiba said. "Japan backs the concept of African Continental Free Trade Area," which aims to bolster the region's competitiveness. This year's summit comes as U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war and drastic cuts in foreign-aid programs have negatively affected development projects in Africa. Meanwhile, China has been expanding its foothold in the area since 2000 through infrastructure building and loan projects. The three-day summit in Yokohama, near Tokyo, is focusing on the economy as well as peace and stability, health, climate change and education. Leaders and representatives from about 50 countries from the African continent, as well as officials from international organizations, are attending. Japan launched TICAD in 1993. It was last held in Tunisia in 2022. 'Africa must have a stronger voice in shaping the decisions that affect its future,' United Nation's Secretary-General António Guterres, said at the event, adding that African nations are underrepresented in the international community and its decision-making process. Under the Indian Ocean Africa economic zone initiative, Japan aims to bring investment into Africa from Japanese companies operating in India and the Middle East. Ishiba said Japan will extend loans of up to $5.5 billion in coordination with African Development Bank to promote Africa's sustainable development to address their debt problems. He also said Japan aims to provide support to train 30,000 artificial intelligence experts over the next three years to promote digitalization and create jobs. Guterres said 'unjust and unfair international financial architecture" must enhance African representation and endorse a strong African voice in the decision-making process, adding that building AI capacity in developing countries in Africa would help ease digital divide in the region. Those present at the summit are expected to adopt a 'Yokohama declaration' Friday and Ishiba will announce the outcome at a news conference. ___ Yamaguchi reported from Tokyo. Thailand's central bank caps most online transfers at $1,500 daily to thwart scams
BANGKOK (AP) — Banks in Thailand are now required to set a daily limit of 50,000 baht ($1,537) on many online transfers to lessen financial fraud, particularly those involving customers judged vulnerable such as children and the elderly, the country's central bank announced. The rule announced by the Bank of Thailand on Tuesday is meant to help combat the huge criminal industry of online scams, which makes billions of dollar annually and is especially active in Southeast Asia. The problem is worldwide, and in many countries there is increasing pressure on banks to play a more active role in safeguarding the assets of customers targeted by scammers. The new measure aims to curb financial fraud by preventing criminals from receiving and transferring a large amount of money at one time, and enabling timely freezing of illicit funds in order to increase the chances that victims will be able to recover at least some of their money, according to Daranee Saeju, the bank's assistant governor for Payment Systems Policy and Financial Consumer Protection. The daily transfer limit will be applied to transfers in three different tiers: under 50,000 baht ($1,537) , under 200,000 baht ($6,147) and above 200,000 baht ($6,147), depending on each customer's risk profile and the banks' assessment under know-your-customer, or KYC, rules. Customers with established records of responsibility can continue transferring at their usual levels. This measure will be implemented for new mobile banking and internet banking customers by the end of this month and for existing customers by the end of this year. Thailand has around 12 million mobile banking users, according to a report Wednesday in the Bangkok Post newspaper. It said previous central bank safeguards capped mobile banking transfers at 50,000 baht ($1,537) per transaction — with facial recognition required — and 200,000 baht ($6,147) per day in total. In June alone this year, 24,500 scam cases related to money transfers were reported to the authorities, causing total losses of 2.8 billion baht ($86.1 million) — an average of 114,000 baht ($3,504) per case. The largest single fraudulent transfer amounted to 4.9 million baht ($150,591), the Post reported, citing the central bank. On average, scammers needed only three minutes to siphon off half of the stolen funds, while victims typically took 19–25 hours to report the crime, the newspaper reported For the first six months of this year, children under 15 were involved in 78,468 financial scam cases, while victims over 65 years of age accounted for 416,453 cases, it said..
