Report: Bears to open Week 1 vs. Vikings on Monday Night Football
The Chicago Bears and their fans will have to wait one extra day to kick off the 2025 season when Week 1 arrives. According to FOX NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Bears will open the 2025 season at home against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
The Bears facing the Vikings on Monday Night Football is nothing new. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams in that time slot since 2016. The timing is new, however. The last time the Bears faced the Vikings in Week 1 came during the 2000 season, and the last time they opened Week 1 on Monday Night Football was in 1997, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain.
All eyes will be on new Bears head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams to close out the opening weekend. The former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator's last regular season game came against the Vikings when his team had a decisive 31-9 victory to capture the NFC North title and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. Johnson is 5-1 against the Vikings over the last three years and will look to build on that success while the Vikings begin a new era of their own with JJ McCarthy taking over at quarterback.
This is the third leaked matchup for the Bears ahead of their 2025 schedule release. Their other confirmed games include a Week 13 date against the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday and a Week 16 standalone matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field. The entire Bears schedule will officially be revealed Wednesday night at 7 p.m. CT.

What channel is the Bills game on? How to watch Buffalo Bills vs Chicago Bears

ORCHARD PARK - Now that James Cook is signed to a new contract extension, the Buffalo Bills star running back might get a few snaps Sunday night against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The drama surrounding Cook's hold in came to an end Wednesday, one day after he had returned to practice, when he signed his four-year contract extension that included a whopping $30 million in guaranteed money. After missing four practices and the preseason opener last Saturday against the Giants, Cook has fallen behind in season preparation. All of the starters who weren't injured played into the second quarter against New York, so while Cook will get work along with all the first-stringer players Friday when the teams conduct a joint practice at Halas Hall, he may see game action Sunday. When he spoke to reporters Tuesday morning, coach Sean McDermott had not decided on what the game-day lineup would look like. 'We'll see,' he said. 'I'm not there yet on it, I just want to get a big practice (Tuesday) to get through and then (Wednesday) and then as a staff we'll talk about it some more at that point in time.' Bills' James Cook Becomes Player To Watch In Sunday's Preseason Game

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. It's time for James Cook to put his newly earned money where his mouth has been for all of training camp with the Buffalo Bills. The two-time Pro Bowl running back has been very vocal for most of training camp about wanting a new contract and holding in until he gets he wants. He now has a four-year contract worth $48 million. Now, he needs to go out there and perform, starting with Sunday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears. KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - JANUARY 26: James Cook #4 of the Buffalo Bills dives for a touchdown during the third quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on January 26, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. MoreWith teams only having three preseason games now (unless they get the Hall of Fame Game), preseason game No. 2 is the one where starters see a considerable amount of reps. Cook obviously didn't play in the preseason opener, but he needs to showcase some solid runs in however many carries he gets on Sunday. Preseason games obviously don't count, but that doesn't mean Cook can get away with seven carries for 19 yards on Sunday. It won't sit well with the organization either if he goes out there and doesn't have much to show for himself. Cook has something to prove this season as well for the Bills as he just eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark last season. Getting on track to put up more yards starts in the preseason. Will things be rusty at first with Cook? Of course, and nobody is saying otherwise. However, he may not get many reps (if any) in the final preseason game, so Sunday's contest may be his only game action before the wins and losses count. Cook certainly needs to make the most of it. 3 Standouts from Day 16 of Chicago Bears training camp

Chicago Bears training camp is in full swing ahead of the 2025 regular season. Under new head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears are preparing a return to relevancy with important practices and meetings at Halas Hall. The starters, such as quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receivers Rome Odunze and DJ Moore, and defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Montez Sweat, will hone their skills as they adjust to a new system. Rookies such as tight end Colston Loveland, receiver Luther Burden III, and tackle Ozzy Trapilo will look to hit the ground running ahead of their first season. And depth players like offensive lineman Doug Kramer, defensive end Dominique Robinson, and safety Jonathan Owens will try and hang on to a roster spot with competition nipping at their heels. Following every Bears training camp practice, we at Bears Wire will highlight a select number of players who stood out during the day. After a day off, the Bears returned to the field for a padded practice. Here are the players who stood out: 1. QB Caleb Williams Caleb Williams picked a really good day to stand out at Bears practice. It's been a long week of discourse surrounding the starting quarterback and his ability to be great in the NFL, despite the fact he hasn't even taken a preseason snap under new head coach Ben Johnson. On Wednesday, Williams had one of his better practices of camp as he consistently connected with wide receivers Rome Odunze and Olamide Zaccheaus. A good amount of his incompletions came off drops from his receivers, including a deep ball in the middle of the field to DJ Moore. Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune notes Williams had one bad pitch to D'Andre Swift, but otherwise it was a very clean day for No. 18. Hopefully that carries over the rest of the week. 2. WR Rome Odunze One of the main reasons Williams was dialed in on Wednesday was because of Odunze. The second-year receiver was all over the field, according to those in attendance. CHSN's Alex Shapiro said Odunze's best catch of the day came on a touchdown reception near the front right pylon with good coverage. Odunze and Williams were in sync for much of the day, connecting multiple times on a variety of passing plays, which bodes well for what the two can do when the regular season gets underway. 3. DE Dayo Odeyingbo The offensive line was doing their own version of the "Super Bowl Shuffle" on Wednesday, with more players being added to the left tackle competition. That didn't matter for defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, who made his presence known against veteran Braxton Jones on multiple occasions. According to Marquee Sports' Nicholas Moreano, Odeyingbo got the best of Jones, particularly on one rep when he put the tackle on the ground during 1-on-1 drills. With so much attention centered on Austin Booker after this last weekend, don't forget about Odeyingbo, who is being counted on to play a major role on the defensive line this season.
