The Neighborhood Spinoff Not Moving Forward at CBS
CBS has pumped the brakes on its Neighborhood universe expansion: TVLine can confirm that the Eye network will not be moving forward with a spinoff centered on Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty Butler (Marcel Spears).
The untitled offshoot, which was being eyed for the 2025-26 TV season, would have seen Calvin and Tina's adult sons 'embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents' nest to start the next chapter of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that's both close but yet world apart: Venice Beach,' according to a previously released logline.

A backdoor pilot for the now-defunct offshoot — which also stars Justin Long (Mom), Kara Royster (Pretty Little Liars), Angelique Cabral and Hunter King (Life in Pieces) — will air as planned on Monday, May 5, at 8:30/7:30c on CBS, and serve as the second half of The Neighborhood's hour-long Season 7 finale. Word that the Neighborhood spinoff will not be going forward follows the cancellation of Poppa's House. The Wayans family vehicle and the Malcolm-and-Marty offshoot were among several comedies vying for the only half-hour time slot available on CBS' fall schedule — and it ultimately went to single-camera workplace comedy DMV.
The Neighborhood was previously renewed for an eighth and final season at CBS. Another spinoff, Tracy Morgan's Crutch, received a straight-to-series order at Paramount+ last May, and is still awaiting a premiere date.

In an interview with Variety the following month, Grande said that in that moment, Erivo looked like she might cry. So Grande provided support to her friend the only way she could think of in the moment: clutching Erivo's index finger and tapping her long acrylic nail. Fans quickly reposted and recreated the moment on social media following the exchange. Grande recalled of the interview to Variety, '[Gilchrist] said something that meant something to her, then it meant something totally different to [Erivo], and then she tried to kind of get somewhere else. Following a rousing opening to the Oscars in March, where Cynthia Erivo was joined by Wicked co-star Ariana Grande for a medley of the classic musical's hits 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' (from The Wizard of Oz) and 'Defying Gravity,' the Jesus Christ Superstar actress brought the same powerhouse vocals to the first moments of Tony Awards, the 78th edition of which she is hosting live from Radio City Music Hall today. As she sang 'It's our stories and our songs that let us soar,' she shouted out Tony nominees like Audra McDonald, Cole Escola and Sarah Snook (who just won Leading Actress for her one-woman role in The Picture of Dorian Gray).
