The Neighborhood Spinoff Not Moving Forward at CBS

Yahoo22-04-2025
CBS has pumped the brakes on its Neighborhood universe expansion: TVLine can confirm that the Eye network will not be moving forward with a spinoff centered on Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty Butler (Marcel Spears).
The untitled offshoot, which was being eyed for the 2025-26 TV season, would have seen Calvin and Tina's adult sons 'embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents' nest to start the next chapter of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that's both close but yet world apart: Venice Beach,' according to a previously released logline.

A backdoor pilot for the now-defunct offshoot — which also stars Justin Long (Mom), Kara Royster (Pretty Little Liars), Angelique Cabral and Hunter King (Life in Pieces) — will air as planned on Monday, May 5, at 8:30/7:30c on CBS, and serve as the second half of The Neighborhood's hour-long Season 7 finale. Word that the Neighborhood spinoff will not be going forward follows the cancellation of Poppa's House. The Wayans family vehicle and the Malcolm-and-Marty offshoot were among several comedies vying for the only half-hour time slot available on CBS' fall schedule — and it ultimately went to single-camera workplace comedy DMV.
The Neighborhood was previously renewed for an eighth and final season at CBS. Another spinoff, Tracy Morgan's Crutch, received a straight-to-series order at Paramount+ last May, and is still awaiting a premiere date.

DirecTV just added this killer YouTube TV feature

DirecTV is one of the best live TV streaming services I've tested — and I've tested all the cable alternatives. Yes, it can get expensive, but if you can stomach the high price on the Signature Packages, you get tons of channels for your money. That's a good thing, especially since now, DirecTV is letting you watch four channels at the same time. Yes, DirecTV is officially adding multiview to its live TV service. The feature is possibly the most popular feature on YouTube TV, and no small reason why we dub it the best live TV streaming service out there. DirecTV has offered versions of the feature in the past, though, and now it's offering customers seven new multiview "mixes" that allow you to watch four channels at once. Here's the full list: As you can see, it's not just Signature Package customers who are getting this new feature. If you're subscribed to an eligible Genre Pack, you can also watch multiview Mix Channels, provided your Genre Pack has the required channels. DirecTV launched Genre Packs back in February, and they allow you to subscribe to slimmed-down, genre-focused live TV streaming plans for less than a Signature Package. Genre Pack subscribers get access to the DirecTV app, unlimited DVR recording and MyFree DirecTV, the company's free streaming service. DirecTV adding multiview for most of its customers is a win if you're a subscriber. Full stop. But it's already starting off behind YouTube TV's multiview offering in terms of what you can do with the feature. Like DirecTV's new multiview mix channels, YouTube TV offers some multiview channels that are curated for subscribers. But starting earlier this past May, YouTube TV has allowed users to build custom multiviews, allowing them to create four channel combinations that include Bravo, ESPN, USA and more. I'm surprised DirecTV didn't offer this functionality to its customers as well. I get that building multiviews is a fairly new feature even for YouTube TV, but given DirecTV was already playing catch-up, why not put out an industry-leading product, rather than something that's already an inferior offering? It's still great that customers are getting this feature, but it clearly should be more. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The Shocking Reason Sami Isn't Getting Involved in Johnny's DAYS Trial

Fans were thrilled when Alison Sweeney recently brought Sami back to Days of Our Lives, twice. The first time was to console Johnny, who learned the horrible story of his conception. The second was when she came back to Salem to pay her final respects to the late John Black. Outside of the soap, and when she wasn't working on a Hallmark film, Sweeney had great fun appearing on LEGO Masters Jr. Now, she's got another return to Salem booked, and she opened up about what Sami's going to be up to. Sweeney Went Home Sweeney told TV Line that she had learned a lot about LEGOs when appearing on the fun competition show. But when asked if she'd ever been in a Hallmark Christmas film that involved LEGOs, she remarked, 'You know, I have never heard of one, but that is a great idea.' She also stated that she was working on a few Hallmark films to be released in 2026, noting that she was excited for them to premiere. The conversation then turned to DAYS and her August 4 return. She revealed, 'I have a few more episodes in this return, and another return coming up in a couple of months. It's always fun to go back to that show.' She stated that she truly loves playing her beloved character, as well as seeing the cast and crew whom she regards as family. 'So it is like going home,' she noted. Sami Would Make Things Worse Sami has been noticeably absent from Salem, even though her son, Johnny (Carson Boatman), is on trial for shooting EJ (Dan Feuerriegel). When asked why she has not been included in the story, she remarked, 'I would just cause problems if I got involved in that.' She further added, 'I would make it worse. And everyone agreed. [Laughs] I would just stir up more trouble!' The conversation changed again, asking about what else she has going on. She explained that she came up with some ideas that she pitched to Hallmark that included other characters she hasn't played yet. She enjoys the challenge of 'finding other ways to tell stories,' and happily remarked that she's going to Spain soon to shoot a couple of films. 'That was so fun and fresh to do,' she happily noted. Paulo Costa: UFC champ Khamzat Chimaev's style has 'potential to kill this business'

Paulo Costa ripped Khamzat Chimaev's title-winning performance at UFC 319. Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) dominated and out-grappled Dricus Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) to claim the middleweight title in Saturday's headliner at United Center in Chicago. Chimaev was all over Du Plessis just seconds into the fight, landing 12 takedowns with more than 21 minutes of control time. Fans were getting uneasy during several moments of the fight, showering Chimaev with boos as he held Du Plessis on the ground. Costa called his performance boring. "This is a show. This is entertainment," Costa said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "This kind of fight, and fighter, has a lot of potential to kill this business." Costa (15-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) snapped his two-fight losing skid by defeating Roman Kopylov at UFC 318 in June and is eager for his shot at Chimaev. He admits he did not expect UFC CEO Dana White to praise Chimaev for his performance. "This surprised me also because at the press conference after the fight, Dana White was (saying), 'OK, he did amazing,'" Costa said "No, he didn't, man. He did horrible. This is horrible for the (viewers). This is not good. I know you make a deal with Paramount and CBS, but people will watch another show, something else. They will not watch these guys hugging each other for 25 minutes. So, this is not good for our sport."
