The 20-year-old goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks could not believe his ears when he heard–'Hey, we've got our top six guys and you're one of them.' Damian Clara received this beyond-belief news on June 16.

The netminder only talked about it with Dan Arritt of NHL Network on July 18. He innocently told Arritt, 'I didn't even know there was a thing. I just got a call, and I was like–Okay, wow. What's that?' Clara hails from Brunico, Italy, and he's going to represent his home country at the 2026 Olympics!
How does Damian Clara feel about representing Italy in the 2026 Winter Olympics ?
'It's a big honor. Really happy to get the trust. I will do my best to go there and hopefully help the team. It's our goal, and we'll see what happens,' Clara told Arritt.
When Arritt asked him how he viewed competing in the Olympics? The netminder said, 'Just see it as a challenge. There's nothing to lose. Exciting opportunity–as I'm still in the development. And it's a great thing for Italian hockey to invite some of the best players in the world into our rink and obviously match up with our team.
'
Arritt asked him if he used his stature to intimidate the players on the rink. The 6-foot-6, 214-pounder goalie said, 'Sometimes, I open up and I play too aggressive and make life hard for myself.
That's something else I've learned–just use what's there the best way possible, and I think there's still some steps I can take to accomplish that and get more out of it.'
Six players from the NHL will compete in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games
Apart from the goggle-eyed goalie, six others will play in the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026–Rasmus Dahlin(defenseman and captain for the Buffalo Sabres), Gabriel Landeskog(left winger and captain for the Colorado Avalanche), Lucas Raymond(ice hockey winger for Detroit Red Wings), Adrian Kempe(ice hockey player for the Los Angeles Kings), Victor Hedman(defenseman and captain for Tampa Bay Lightning), and William Nylander(ice hockey forward for Toronto Maple Leafs)–but they would all be representing Sweden.

Leon Marchand Says "Still A Lot To Do" A Year On From Paris Heroics

Leon Marchand said on Saturday that he still has "a lot to do in the swimming world" a year on from his sensational home Olympics in Paris. The 23-year-old was the face of the Paris Games last summer, winning four individual gold medals to thrill the French fans and become a national hero. Speaking on the eve of his first major competition since, at the world championships in Singapore, Marchand said it had been "a transition year" since his exploits in the French capital. "It's more like getting back into the game," said Marchand, who won the 200m and 400m individual medley events in Paris, and the 200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke. "I had a pretty good year of relaxing and getting back into it, but really taking my time. "I'm excited for the world championships. I want to be close to my personal bests in all my races and of course break world records in the next few years. "I still have a lot to do in the swimming world." Marchand, the world record holder in the 400m medley and a multiple world champion, said that the attention now heaped on him from the French public in particular was "a lot to handle at first". "It's been good and bad," he said of the adulation he now receives back home. "I am getting used to it, I know how to handle it better, I know how to say no better. "I get a lot more peace when I travel outside of France, for sure. I was able to train better and do my own thing like usual." Marchand has scaled back his schedule in Singapore to focus on the 200m and 400m medley and ultimately has his sights set on Ryan Lochte's long-standing 200m world record. The world championships start on Sunday.

India vs Australia hockey full schedule, dates, time (IST), live streaming

India's preparations for the all-important Asia Cup 2025 will get a solid test as the men's hockey team heads Down Under for a four-match series against Australia from August 15 to 21 at the Perth Hockey Stadium. Ranked eighth in the world, India will face sixth-ranked Australia in what promises to be a fiercely competitive bilateral series. The matches are scheduled for August 15, 16, 19, and 21, and will serve not only as a high-level tune-up for the upcoming continental championship in Bihar but also as a chance for key players to make their case for final selection. This series comes just weeks after both sides locked horns in the FIH Pro League 2024–25, where Australia narrowly edged out India 3–2 in both legs. However, India will take confidence from their historic 3–2 win over the Kookaburras at the 2024 Paris Olympics — their first Olympic win over Australia since 1972. While Australia have dominated the head-to-head record in the past decade, winning 35 of their 51 meetings since 2013, the recent games have shown India closing the gap. Chief Coach Craig Fulton has called the tour a 'crucial test', confirming that team selection for the Asia Cup will be finalised during the series. National Sports Governance Bill: Will govt clean up federations including BCCI — or isthere a danger of overreach?

nearly a decade ago, when the Supreme Court was hearing the recommendations made by a panel led by Justice R M Lodha, set up by the Court to suggest reforms to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, then Chief Justice T S Thakur asked the BCCI a rhetorical question: 'Are you refusing to be reformed?' In the coming days, the cricket board could, again, face a similar question. For years, the BCCI has acted on its own on governance issues. Through the National Sports Governance Bill, which Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the government has shown a will to bell the cat. So far, the BCCI has resisted all attempts to bring it under government regulation. Its main argument has been that since it does not seek funding from the sports ministry, it isn't answerable to it. Unlike other sports, the cricket board, an autonomous body, isn't covered under the Right to Information Act, 2005. However, with cricket returning to the Olympics in 2028, it could be forced to align with other national federations and follow the standard good governance practices. The government aims to achieve this by bringing the BCCI under the National Sports Board (NSB), as the Bill envisages. The NSB will have sweeping powers to lay down rules and oversee the functioning of all federations — from unconventional games like atya patya to mainstream sports like cricket. Indeed, sports governance issues go beyond cricket. The Bill seeks to bring in legislation to improve 'the governance of the sports bodies and achieve better results in sports and reduce the disputes and litigation, inter alia, involving sports federations'. It relies on two main pillars — the NSB will be a SEBI-like body that will govern all sports, and the creation of a National Sports Tribunal, which will take the burden away from the lower courts and high courts. With the NSB, there are fears of government overreach and the question of appointing the right people, free of conflicts of interest or bias, to head the organisation. At the same time, there are concerns that the formation of the Tribunal, which will have the powers of a civil court and decide on disputes ranging from selection to election, could disenfranchise athletes and administrators of their right to approach the courts. Whether or not the government, through this Bill, succeeds in cleaning up the messy Indian sports administration depends on whether or not it manages to enforce its provisions in letter and spirit.
