Long-weekend trip from Indore to Puri turns fatal for 6 friends as car jumps over divider, crashes into oncoming truck
The accident took place around 5 am near Chirchari village on the Nagpur-Raipur national highway when a group of seven friends were travelling in an Ertiga from Indore to visit the Puri temple in Odisha. They had visited Ujjain on Thursday.
'It was raining at the time. The driver, Sagar Yadav, may have been driving all night, having left Indore the previous day. We suspect he lost control or may have had poor visibility of the road due to the heavy rain. Their car jumped the divider, which is less than a foot high, and a truck coming from the opposite end hit one side of the car,' said a police official from the Baghnadi police station.
While the airbags saved Sagar's life, the rest of the six occupants were killed. The local police said that the accident site was not in the list of blind or accident-prone spots.
Five of the friends have been identified as Akash Maurya (28) from Indore, Govind Punamchand (33) from Ratlam, Aman Rathore (26) from Indore, Nitin Yadav (34) from Indore, and Sangram Kesari from Neelkantpur in Odisha. The sixth deceased is yet to be identified.

Raipur: The Government Railway Police (GRP), Durg, successfully rescued an 18-month-old boy who was abducted from Durg railway station and traced him to Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. The accused, identified as Arumugam (45), a resident of Thiruneelakudi, Thanjavur, was arrested. The GRP later handed over the child to his mother. The incident came to light on July 27, 2025, when Surya Manikpuri and his wife, Sonu Manikpuri, residents of Durg, woke up at Durg railway station to find their 18-month-old son missing. The accused was seen getting off at Nagpur railway station and taking an autorickshaw to Sitabardi market, where he bought new clothes for the child. He later returned to the station and boarded the 12591 Gorakhpur Express. Pantry car staff on the Gorakhpur Express noticed that the man was inebriated and the child was crying. They alerted the RPF at Chandrapur station, who deboarded the man. During questioning by Childline staff, the accused claimed he had a fight with his wife, and insisted that the child was his. He produced an Aadhaar card, sent to him via WhatsApp from his village. After verifying the document, the RPF staff let him go, the DSP said. Using the Aadhaar card details, the GRP traced the accused, Arumugam, to his residence under Thiruneelakudi police station limits in Thanjavur. With the help of the local RPF and city police, the team reached the specified address and found Arumugam with the child. The boy immediately ran to his mother upon seeing her. The police rescued the child and brought the accused back to Durg. The child underwent a medical examination at Durg District Hospital before being reunited with his mother. AHMEDABAD: A shocking case of caste-based violence has emerged from Gujarat's Junagadh district, where a Dalit youth and his father-in-law were brutally assaulted for keeping a beard and moustache that their attackers claimed were reserved for "upper castes." The incident, which occurred on August 11 in Khambhaliya (Ozat) village, has sparked outrage, with police registering a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The victims, identified as Sagar Makwana, a labourer from Mangnath Pipli village, and his father-in-law Jivanbhai Wala, were allegedly attacked by a group of men who hurled casteist slurs and mocked Sagar's appearance. According to the complaint, Sagar had gone to Khambhaliya to get his bike repaired but found the garage closed. As he was returning home, he was stopped near a railway bridge by Shailesh Jebaliya from Navi Chavand village, who allegedly knocked him off his bike and began abusing him for his beard and moustache. Fearing further assault, Sagar called his father-in-law for help. However, when Jivanbhai arrived, a silver car without a number plate pulled up, carrying Lalo Bhupat and three unidentified men.
