Police investigate fatal collision on Johor Baru-Pontian Highway
KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car at KM 24.1 of the Johor Baru–Pontian road yesterday.
Police said the accident occurred at around 11.20am when a Perodua Myvi was exiting a slip road onto the main carriageway.
The motorcyclist, who was riding a Honda RS, collided into the back-left side of the car.
'As a result of the collision, the victim was thrown onto the road, while his motorcycle was flung into the river.
'The victim was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for treatment and was confirmed to have died while receiving care,' Iskandar Puteri district chief ACP Kumarasan Muniandy said.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
They are also urging witnesses to contact the Iskandar Puteri district police at 07-5101322 with any relevant information.

Johor police detain Singaporean driver after road rage dispute in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU, June 9 — Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. 'The complainant stated that while driving his BMW at 2.39pm in the Tun Aminah area, he was honked at by a Toyota Altis with a Singapore registration number, whose driver was dissatisfied because his path was blocked. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult). Police said anyone with information related to the case can contact the Johor Bahru Utara IPD at 07-5563122. Driver trapped, burnt to death after timber lorry crash in Bintulu as vehicle bursts into flames
SIBU, June 9 — A timber lorry driver was burned to death when his lorry caught fire after it crashed along a timber trail in Samarakan, Bintulu yesterday. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, a call about the crash was received at 1 pm and a team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station was mobilised to the location near Medsum Trading Sdn Bhd, Samarakan, Bintulu. The victim was identified as Kanang Inggai, aged 57. 'The front end of the lorry was totally burned. The victim was trapped and found burned. The fire had been put out by company workers. UPSI student bus crashes with MPV on East-West Highway in Gerik, at least 15 dead; PM instructs Higher Education Ministry to coordinate aid
IPOH, June 9 — At least 15 people were killed in an accident involving a bus carrying students from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle on the East-West Highway in Banun, Gerik this morning. The Hulu Perak operations control centre of the Civil Defence Force (APM) received an emergency call from Gerik Hospital regarding the collision at 1.10 am, national news agency Bernama reported. The APM confirmed in a statement that 48 people were involved in the crash, with 13 pronounced dead at the scene. Two more were reported to have died in the hospital. Four others sustained injuries. The bus was reported to have been travelling from Jertih in Terengganu, to Tanjung Malim in Perak. In a separate Facebook post, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said his ministry will provide all necessary assistance to those involved in the crash. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and said further information will be updated in due course.
