Mortality & Manifestations

Mortality & Manifestations

I don't know if I'm just getting older, but the weeks are flowing into months, and the months are swiftly turning into a year at an alarming speed. It makes me afraid of my mortality! Not that I'm afraid of 'passing on', but hopefully when that time comes, it's uneventful and peaceful. But I have loads of things I want to do.
My famous, unpublished books that are lying half-finished on my desktop are one, or the bartending class I wanted to attend, my singing, my salsa classes, and my 'climb-every-mountain' mantra have not been followed to a T! I have successfully manifested most of my dreams. But I am a human being, and we always want more!
Now my aching bones have turned me into a more realistic being, and I suppose now I'll have to climb every mountain metaphorically! Now, for sure, I have stopped pleasing and playing for an audience (I couldn't help my actor genes now, could I?), and I have got real about a lot of things.
As a social being, I am friendly, but I reiterate that 'everyone' isn't my friend. Recently, I tried to count my real friends, and believe me, I couldn't get past the fingers on my first hand. I was elated! Just as I was doing a happy dance, my phone rang, and it was my friend Prasad Bidapa, whom I have known most of my life. We watched each other grow professionally and were always happy and proud of each other. I have wept over his shoulder many times, and we have giggled over a shared bit of gossip. We have also been there for each other, and if he needs me to attend an event at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, he knows I will be there. He called just to check in on me as we hadn't crossed paths for some time. This gesture warmed the cockles of my heart! Prasad is a 'busy-bee', yet he needed to know if his friend was well. That's what friends are for.
My week has been dotted with long impromptu 'food soirees' with family and friends like family in attendance. I think everyone is suffering with a sense of ennui, with the prospect of dressing up and going to another pointless event where one bumps into the same people, who give you the same polite smiles and have nothing new to say or do. Give me the opportunity to wear my 'jammies' with a home-cooked meal, great madeira (saved for those family occasions), raucous laughter and non-stop talking any day!
I was thrilled to be invited back to the swanky JW Marriott to sample the cuisine of the famed restaurant Fireback from Goa. I love the authentic Thai restaurant, and I didn't need more persuasion to sample their cuisine in namma ooru. The name is inspired by the Thai national bird, the Siamese Fireback and also alludes to the fire-grilled cooking behind many of the restaurant's dishes.
Their chef, Kamal Kant Joshi, was on hand lovingly taking us through his very imaginative new menu while the dishy mixologist Ravi Rai kept us enthralled with his Thai-inspired cocktails, which had our table of friends, Aloma Lobo, Neetu Singh and the suave GM Gaurav Sinha in 'high spirits'!
Khop-khun-khrap for all the love.

Rimzim Dadu: Contemporary Indian Couture Is Not About Abandoning Heritage

Last Updated: Rimzim Dadu will unveil her collection, OXYNN, at the Hyundai India Couture Week, an initiative of FDCI in association with Reliance Brands. Rimzim Dadu will unveil her collection, OXYNN, at the Hyundai India Couture Week, an initiative of FDCI, in association with Reliance Brands, on July 29, 2025, at the Taj Palace, New Delhi. A modern couture story woven from memory and metal, Rimzim Dadu's collection draws inspiration from the fierce, untamed spirit of Gujarat's Banjara tribes. Rimzim Dadu shares with News18 the art behind mastering wearability and functionality, celebrating the spirit and craftsmanship of the Banjara tribe, and how contemporary Indian couture is about honouring the past and shaping what comes next. You have mastered the art of balancing sculptural expressions with wearability. What's the secret? The key lies in textile engineering and building each garment from the material upward. At our studio, every piece begins with experimentation, exploring how steel cords, metallic wires, or hand-developed textiles can hold form while still moving with the body. Sculptural doesn't mean unwearable. Our goal is to create garments that are structured yet never restrictive. Wearability and functionality are central to our process. I want our pieces to be cherished in people's wardrobes as well as find their place in museum collections. OXYNN doesn't seek to replicate the Banjara aesthetic. It draws inspiration from their spirit, craftsmanship, adornment, and ethos. Their mirrored textiles, oxidised jewellery, and layered silhouettes provided a powerful starting point. We abstracted these elements into our design vocabulary. Mirrors became reflective metal surfaces, jewellery was reimagined through delicate cord work, and their nomadic layering was interpreted through sculptural, architectural forms. It is a conversation between legacy and evolution. What specific characteristics of the tribe have you incorporated in the collection? The Banjaras' tactile craftsmanship, textured layering, and ornamental use of oxidised metal deeply influenced OXYNN. You'll see layered constructions, sculptural volumes, and metallic textiles that reference traditional mirror work. Patola-inspired motifs from the region are fused with mirror and Bandhani detailing using our signature cords. Jewellery-inspired forms are embedded directly into the textiles. Even the surface techniques reflect their visual identity, interpreted through a more industrial, modern lens. Tell us about the palette that celebrates the inspiration but also mirrors your vision for Indian brides and beyond. The colour palette was designed to feel both lived-in and powerful, like aged metal that carries memory. Oxidised silvers, burnished golds, deep reds, and jewel-toned midnight hues evoke a quiet regality. It reflects a bride who honours tradition but confidently chooses individuality. It is also intended for anyone seeking couture that is rooted but not restricted by convention. Shapes and motifs you have introduced in the collection that complete the story. The silhouettes range from sculpted lehengas and engineered blouses to metallic pre-draped saris, modular bombers, and sharply tailored suits. The motifs are intentionally non-floral, drawn from oxidised surfaces, tribal coins, cracked textures, and shield-like forms. These references are abstracted into wire structures, layered cords, and three-dimensional weaves. The result is an armour-like couture vocabulary that is protective, expressive, and deeply intentional. A space for thoughtful transformation. It is not about abandoning heritage, but evolving it. Contemporary Indian couture moves beyond bridal embellishment to become a medium of experimentation, where handwork meets industrial material and cultural memory intersects with modern construction. For me, it is a dialogue between restraint and expression, edge and emotion. It is about honouring the past while shaping what comes next. view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: July 29, 2025, 11:41 IST News lifestyle Rimzim Dadu: Contemporary Indian Couture Is Not About Abandoning Heritage Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Labubu parties across India are redefining cute and quirky decor

The internet's Labubu obsession is now taking over the party scene too! From Delhi to Mumbai, clubs are hosting themed nights with giveaways, mascots, quirky drinks, and games, turning this craze into a full-blown fiesta. Labubu-themed parties take over India's nightlife Oscar Luxe Club in Noida rode the viral Labubu wave on July 12 with a themed night offering free entry. Guests arrived in Labubu-inspired outfits, posed with mascots, and danced the night away. Saloni Sharma, marketing head, shares, "Watching people of all ages come together, dress up, and go all in made it feel like more than just a party. It felt movement." In Mumbai, Someplace Else at The Park Hotel threw a 'LabubuLand' party on July 26, where guests grooved while holding Labubu cutouts. Supriti Sahay, sales and marketing director, explains, "We wanted to bring that viral energy into a real-world party glitch. We had Labubu-themed photobooths and even Labubu-on-the-beach cocktails for the guests," shares sales and marketing director Supriti Sahay. A themed night at Cyclone Modern Dine In & Club in Nagpur kicked off the Labubu craze in early July. Event curator Nilesh Rokde shares, "It was the first time something this experimental happened here. We wanted the crowd to enter a whimsical zone. With quirky vibes, décor, neon lights, exclusive Labubu-themed zones, photo booths, the night was filled with non-stop party energy!" Pune's English House hosted a Labubu bash straight out of a fantasy cartoon, with tickets priced at 500 and Labubu plushies gifted to all women on arrival. "The response was overwhelming. People came in early just for the plush toys we gave away," says business head, Shubham. Down south in Goa, Diaz Pool Club & Bar turned up the heat with a Labubu night last month. DJ Yogi handed out plushies, sparking wild excitement from the crowd. "When I asked, 'Who wants a Labubu?' the crowd went mad. So, the craze is real," he tells us. Bring the Labubu vibe home: DIY decor ideas Set the tone with Labubu's signature colours like neon pinks, purples, and pastels. Use fairy lights and glow sticks to create a whimsical, cartoon-like space. Print and place Labubu character cutouts around the venue. Set up a DIY photo booth with props and themed backdrops for fun pictures. Set up your snack table with pastel bowls and quirky coasters to match the playful vibe. Add handwritten menu tags with fun names like 'Labubu Shots' or 'Plushie Popcorn' to tie it all together. Add removable stickers with Labubu footprints that lead guests to different 'zones' — snacks, dance area, game corner, etc. Make it special by gifting mini plushies, stickers, or even DIY Labubu keychains to the guests. ZVEZDA Atelier Debuts in Hyderabad with Immersive Fashion Showcase Celebrating Womanhood

ZVEZDA Atelier, a women-led fashion label founded by Bindu Reddy, has officially launched in Hyderabad, marking its entry with a captivating and immersive fashion showcase. The debut event broke away from convention, opting for a narrative-led presentation that traced the diverse phases of womanhood through striking silhouettes, expressive movement, and emotion-driven storytelling. Attendees—including stylists, editors, creatives, and close friends—were guided by a live MC who narrated each segment, seamlessly connecting intimate portrayals of friendship, coming-of-age moments, the journey into partnership, and self-discovery. The fashion show's highlights included a Victorian-inspired gown symbolizing adulthood, a waltz scene evoking partnership and mutual respect, and a showstopper red cape unveiling a gown adorned with hundreds of red flowers—an emblem of transformation and confidence. ZVEZDA's debut collection blended sharp tailoring with fluid drapes, selecting materials and colors for their emotional resonance rather than passing trends. The launch positions ZVEZDA as a brand committed to authenticity, strong design, and narrative depth, ushering in a fresh voice to Indian fashion. Delete Edit
