When the summer heat starts making you feel sluggish, nothing beats sipping something cool and refreshing. Thanks to the season's bounty of fruits and vegetables, summer offers plenty of healthy options. One of the most popular and tasty choices is cucumber juice. Not only is it delicious, but it also helps you shed those stubborn kilos. It is not just another detox trend flooding Instagram; cucumber juice genuinely benefits your body. If you want a healthier alternative to sugary summer drinks, this is it. Best part? It is affordable, weight-loss-friendly, and requires zero fancy preparation. Just blend and sip! Here is how adding cucumber juice to your daily routine might help you achieve that summer body you want.
Here Are 5 Ways Cucumber Juice Supports Weight Loss And Hydration:
1. Keeps You Hydrated
Hydration is often overlooked in weight loss. Research from the Web of Science shows cucumber is about 95 per cent water. Drinking cucumber juice quenches your thirst and supports your body's natural detox. Dehydration causes your body to hold on to water, making you feel bloated and puffy. So, drink cucumber juice to stay hydrated and keep your weight in check.
2. Low In Calories, High In Satisfaction
No one wants to starve on a diet. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, 99 grams of cucumber has just 10 calories. Yes, just 10! Plus, its volume helps you feel full longer. When your stomach feels satisfied, you are less tempted to reach for chips or fried snacks after lunch.
3. Reduces Bloating And Water Retention
Water retention and bloating often happen when you eat salty or processed food without enough fluids. Cucumber juice, with its high-water content, helps flush out toxins. Its mild diuretic properties remove extra water and sodium, reducing puffiness around your face and belly. It is also gentle on your stomach, helping your digestion stay smooth.
4. Detoxifies With Antioxidants And Anti-Inflammatory Compounds
Cucumber juice is packed with antioxidants, vitamin K, and compounds called cucurbitacins. For those who are not familiar, cucurbitacins have been shown to fight inflammation and diabetes, according to research from the National Institutes of Health. Clearing inflammation and toxins helps your metabolism run better, which supports weight loss.
5. Keeps You Feeling Light And Energised
Heavy snacks can leave you sluggish, but cucumber juice does the opposite. It cools and refreshes, making it a perfect summer drink for weight loss. Loaded with natural electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, it balances your body fluids and keeps fatigue away. This makes it a great drink before or after a workout - light on the stomach, hydrating, and helpful in managing weight.
So, if you want to shed those extra kilos without drama, make cucumber juice your summer go-to.

Brunei sultan discharged from hospital
Brunei sultan discharged from hospital (Photo: AFP) Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has been discharged from hospital and will remain in the Malaysian capital for a few more days to rest, his office said on Saturday. Sultan Hassanal was admitted to hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday due to fatigue, though his office had insisted the world's longest-serving monarch was in "good health". "His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah ... praise be to God, is back at the Grand Hyatt Hotel after resting a few days at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur," his office said in an Instagram post on Saturday. "Medical experts have advised His Majesty to continue resting for a few more days before departing back to Brunei," it added. The 78-year-old sultan was in Kuala Lumpur for a summit with other Association of Southeast Asian Nations leaders. A statement from the Brunei prime minister's office -- a position held by the sultan -- on Tuesday said the monarch had been feeling tired and that Malaysian health experts had advised him to rest for a few days at the National Heart Institute. Sultan Hassanal ascended the throne in 1967. He is one of the richest people on the planet, and comes from a family that has ruled Brunei, a small Muslim nation perched on the north of the tropical island of Borneo, for more than 600 years. His decades ruling Brunei have seen the country gain full independence from Britain and living standards soar to among the highest globally. But his reign has also been marked by controversies including the introduction of tough Islamic laws legislating penalties such as severing of limbs and death by stoning.

Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research (SRIOR) observed World No Tobacco Day by starting a month-long campaign from May 31 to June 30 to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco by launching Instagram reels on their official page. District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyaappanavar was the chief guest at the event. R. Sundar, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, along with other trust members and senior doctors from the hospital, attended the event. The Collector launched SRIOS's 30 cancer awareness Instagram reels on different topics. The short format was designed to reach more people, especially young viewers who used social media often. Dr. P. Guhan, Director of SRIOR, said SRIOR had effectively created awareness about cancer and the ill effects of tobacco for the past 22 years. He also added that tobacco had more than 400 harmful chemicals, including 40 to 50 substances that could cause cancer. Dr. K. How to turn your home into a gym with just one kettlebell and 5 great workouts
Kettlebell training has come a long way over the last few years. Part of the reason could be the pandemic, when people realised that just this one piece of equipment could turn into a whole gym if used smartly. Part of the reason is that functional training becoming more important even in regular gyms. And of course, a third reason is social media, where kettlebell experts have found an audience for the kind of training they do. In fact, I wrote a story for Lounge three years ago that focused on kettlebell-only training, so it's time to update that list with another 'workouts of the month" with a little twist: only a single kettlebell will be needed for every workout. Maximilian's 30-minute workout After following many fitness experts, MaximilianMoves seems to be the best page for kettlebell workouts. While the comment section on his posts are full of doubts about whether his body is built entirely on kettlebell exercises, it is just wise to focus on how incredibly good his work is. With over 600,000 followers on Instagram, Maximilian's videos are becoming very popular and there is good reason to follow him. It was tough to choose one video from his collection, but the one below, which he recommends to do for 30 minutes, is perfect if you want to find out what a kettlebell workout looks and feels like. A post shared by Maximilian 🇸🇰 (@maximilianmoves) There are five exercises to be done for six minutes each with a single kettlebell. In his caption, he defines the exercises from the first being for 'Power (kettlebell swings & explosive lifts)", the second for rotational strength and core control, the third is an isometric holds for the joints, the fourth 'mobility flows (move pain-free)" and the fifth a 'slow muscle builder (controlled hypertrophy)". Also Read How to master the drop jump and work with gravity to increase your strength and speed It sounds complicated and not beginner friendly but that doesn't mean one can't start off with this routine with way lighter weights. Get used to a light kettlebell and push on from you're into something simpler, then try this one exercise from the same creator. A post shared by Maximilian 🇸🇰 (@maximilianmoves) Alex Crockford's 35-minute kettlebell muscle-building workout Alex Crockford's page is a repository of some brilliant workout videos, especially exercises that require minimal equipment and space. This particular workout operates on a 40-seconds-on, 20-seconds-off format and starts with a nice short warm-up, followed by the main routine which is around half an hour long. Crockford takes time to teach the moves in the first set of the three that will be attempted, including technique, especially because kettlebell training involves a lot of hip work. He starts off with kettlebell cleans, moves into swings, and then RDLs. This gives you a gist of what to expect in this workout. For those who might need to feel as if they're lifting, this demands the exact amount of effort if not more. It comes equipped with a finisher set of push-ups and jump squats, and ends with a nice stretching routine. Oli McCann's 15-minute upper body workout Some days are just upper body days, and for that there's this 15-minute drill that can be done as a standalone workout, or at the start or end of a longer workout. It's done in a 30-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off format and hits every muscle, including some good core work as well, with planks and drags and rotations.I've used this one as a warm-up and could surely feel more prepared for the remaining workout. If one round isn't enough, then do it twice. Although it's not marketed as a single kettlebell workout, it still is one, and it has a lot of high energy moves done in an even shorter tabata format of 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off. That's what makes this one such a favourite if you want to sweat it out, plus it is divided into muscle groups which keeps that hypertrophy goal in mind as well. Daniel PT's kettlebell abs workout If it's only the core you want to target, then Daniel PT replaces his usual high-octane workouts with a calmer more focussed abs workout using a single kettlebell. With easy moves like drops to the side and some drags, he introduces a couple of tough variations of the Russian twist for the main challenge, along with some leg raises. A really good abs workout if you're looking for one, and can also be used at the end of a workout. Pulasta Dhar is a football commentator, writer and podcaster.
