Euro NCAP has announced the crash test result of the Hyundai Inster. The micro SUV scored four stars in the crash test. It secured 70 per cent for the adult occupant and 81 per cent for the child occupant. In Vulnerable Road users, the Inster scored 70 per cent and safety assist, it stood at 67 per cent.
In the frontal offset crash test, the Hyundai Inster's passenger cabin stayed stable. However, the driver's head hit the airbag too hard, reducing the protection rating for that area. The chest protection for the driver was rated as marginal due to high compression levels in the test dummy. On the positive side, the knees and thighs (femurs) of both the driver and front passenger were well protected.
Hyundai also proved that the car offers a similar level of protection for people of various sizes and seating positions. Additional analysis showed that the Inster would not cause severe damage to other vehicles in a frontal crash. Inster scored fairly well in the crash test done by Euro NCAP.
In the full-width frontal crash test, chest protection was again marginal for both the driver and a rear passenger. In the side impact test, all vital body parts were either well or adequately protected. However, the driver's door came unlatched during the test, which led to a penalty in the score.
During the more intense side pole crash test, chest protection for the driver was again marginal, based on how much the dummy's ribs were compressed. The car also showed poor control of movement across the cabin (called excursion) in far-side impacts—where the car is hit on the opposite side of the passenger.

Although the Inster has features to reduce injuries between passengers in such situations, it couldn't score points for this due to the door opening in the earlier side test. On the brighter side, crash tests for the front seats and headrests showed good protection against whiplash in rear-end collisions. However, the rear seats only offered marginal whiplash protection based on their design.
The Hyundai Inster includes modern safety features like an advanced eCall system that contacts emergency services automatically after a crash and a system to prevent further impacts after a collision. Hyundai also confirmed that passengers could exit the vehicle in case it becomes submerged, as the doors and windows remain operable.

Car wholesales subdued ahead of festive season on weak consumer sentiments

AI image NEW DELHI: The sluggishness in the car industry was evident as wholesale deliveries in July — ahead of the festive season of Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi — were muted with top makers such as Tata Motors , Hyundai, Toyota and Honda reporting a decline in dispatches (year-on-year) with Maruti reporting flat numbers. Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia saw growth in numbers, but the overall mood of the industry remains subdued with industry officials speaking of challenges in generating demand as geopolitical tensions, fears from US tariffs and job cuts in the IT sector keep consumer sentiments low. Maruti, the country's biggest carmaker, said while demand remains tough currently, the company expects revival during the festive period. 'The overall industry is not growing… (and) it's not a good sign,' Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), said, adding that affordability — especially of entry-level cars — remains a challenge. During the festival, he said the company expects to see 'green shoots' building up. Hyundai, which saw a 10% decline in domestic sales, said that there has been 'some softness' in demand in recent months. '… we remain optimistic with the onset of the festive season and are fully geared up with robust supply and product offerings,' Tarun Garg, Director and COO said. Car companies are planning new launches to kick up demand and attract customers. Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo launched the next-gen version of its top-seller XC60 SUV priced at Rs 72 lakh (ex-showroom). Company MD Jyoti Malhotra said Volvo will consider bringing in plug-in hybrids to India if the tax structure gets conducive, and added that a FTA with EU — on the lines of India-UK trade deal — will help attract investments and new car models. Companies are working on new model launches and discounts and incentives to push the numbers. However, this is putting a strain on their profitability. Many companies have also been going slow on production expansion plans in view of the uncertainty in the economy, something which has only gained in intensity following US President Donald Trump's decision to slap a 25% tariff on India. Hyundai edges ahead as Tata, Mahindra lock horns for No.3 spot: Vahan data

India's car market has been quite active lately. From the growing demand for SUVs to more electric vehicles and feature-rich models, there's a lot going on. While Maruti Suzuki continues to lead in overall sales, Hyundai has managed to hold on to the second spot for two straight months, staying ahead of Tata Motors and Mahindra, who are close behind - Vahan data from June and July 2025 reveals. According to the latest data, Hyundai sold 42,661 units in July 2025, accounting for a 13.2% share of the market, a jump from 39,201 units (12.9%) in June. Maruti Suzuki, meanwhile, remains significantly ahead of the pack, registering 1,28,423 units in July, up from 1,18,218 in June, holding nearly 40% market share in both months. The real contest, however, continues to brew below the top two. Mahindra and Tata Motors are in close competition, with Mahindra clocking 41,476 units in July compared to Tata's 39,795 units. Tata Motors put up a significant comeback from June sales where it sold 35,344 units as against Mahindra's 42,314 units. The two companies' face-off is powered by popular SUVs like the Scorpio-N, XUV700, Nexon and Punch, along with growing interest in their latest EV stable, which now includes the likes of Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata's Harrier EV. The Japanese brand posted 24,777 units in July, slightly up from 23,665 units in June. Models like the Innova Hycross and Fortuner, along with badge-engineered products such as the Glanza and Hyryder, continue to attract healthy demand. With the festive season just around the corner and several new car launches expected, the competition is only going to get more intense. But for now, Hyundai wears the silver medal and it's in no mood to give it up. On the other hand, Maruti continues to wear the crown as Mahindra and Tata fight to complete the rostrum.
