In a veiled swipe at Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he delivered a "rudali" (professional mourner) like speech at joint rally.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday took a sarcastic jibe at Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his remark that the BJP leader played a crucial role in reuniting the estranged cousins– Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray– after two decades.
He 'thanked" the MNS president for crediting him in reuniting the two brothers and said that Balasaheb Thackeray must be blessing him for the task which according to Raj Thackeray, even Balasaheb couldn't achieve.
'I am thankful to Raj Thackeray for giving me credit for bringing them together. Balasaheb Thackeray must be blessing me," he said while interacting with the media persons.
The Chief Minister further took a veiled swipe at Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and said that while the Thackeray cousins organised the rally to celebrate Marathi, Uddhav chose to speak about politics 'out of frustration'.
'It was a victory rally for the Marathi language, but Uddhav Thackeray chose to speak about politics and how he was ousted from power. He delivered a ' rudali" (professional mourner) like speech. He is speaking out of frustration, as they have nothing to show despite ruling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for over 25 years," Fadnavis added as quoted by news agency PTI.
Fadnavis said no word was spoken about Marathi at the event and the speech (delivered by Uddhav) focused on how his government was toppled and how they can regain power.
'The rally was not Vijay utsav but a 'rudali' darshan," the Chief Minister said.
"Conversely, under Modi's leadership, we have transformed Mumbai. We gave Marathi people their rightful homes at BDD and Patra chawls (tenements), which made them (Uddhav-led) jealous," he said.
The chief minister said he was proud to be Marathi and Hindu. "All Marathi and non-Marathi people are with us".
Thackeray Cousins' Reunion
Earlier today, In a rare show of unity, the Thackeray cousins shared the stage for the first time in two decades at the Awaj Marathicha rally in Mumbai to celebrate the rollback of the controversial Hindi language policy in primary schools in Maharashtra.
While addressing the joint rally at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Raj Thackeray said, 'Chief Minister Fadnavis managed to do what Balasaheb Thackeray could not – bring me and Uddhav together."
Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday asserted that he and his cousin have 'come together to stay together".
'Raj, I and everyone else here is united. We have come together to stay together," he said, saying that they will capture power in the Mumbai civic body and Maharashtra together.
The language row came when the Maharashtra government issued an order in April to make Hindi as the compulsory third language for students in their primary classes. It was met with large opposition and political pressure, which led to a withdrawal recently.

Congress alleges rigging in Haryana Assistant Professor recruitment exams; seeks re-conduct and judicial probe

Alleging large-scale rigging and irregularities in the recruitment process for Assistant Professors in various subjects in Haryana, Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Surjewala has demanded that the exams be conducted again in a transparent manner and judicial probe initiated into the matter. A delegation of candidates also submitted a memorandum to former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at his Delhi residence in this connection. Haryana CM media secretary Praveen Attrey denied the allegations as 'baseless' saying that Mr. Surjewala had made similar accusations over half-a-dozen times since the BJP first came to power in 2014 and was 'frustrated' over the people voting the saffron party to the power for the third time in a row expressing faith in its policies. Mr. Surjewala, at a press conference in Hisar, alleged rigging in the exam for the recruitment of Assistant Professor (Geography) saying that 32 questions for the exam conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) were taken from the question paper for Geography's exam conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Is it a coincidence or an experiment that HPSC Chairman Alok Verma has also been 'imported' from Bihar, said Mr. Surjewala adding that the recruitment process could be easily manipulated by hinting the candidates to prepare from the BPSC question paper. The HPSC had advertised 2,424 posts for Assistant Professors in 26 subjects in August last year and around 1.5 lakh youth had applied for it. The posts were advertised after a gap of around five years. Mr. Surjewala said seals of envelopes carrying question papers for Assistant Professor (Hindi) exam were found broken at six centres and the HPSC had to cancel the exam two days later following a backlash. The HPSC initially maintained that the process was not compromised, but later cancelled the exam, which was the 'biggest proof of scam', alleged Mr. Surjewala. Addressing the delegation of the candidates appearing for the Assistant Professor exam, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that 'paper leaks, copy-paste exams and scams have become synonymous with the recruitments conducted under the BJP government'. On this occasion, Mr. Hooda said that grave irregularities have come to light in the Assistant Professor recruitment exam conducted by the HPSC. Apart from History, serious discrepancies have also been exposed in subjects like Hindi, Zoology, Chemistry and Physics, he said, adding that the candidates had already submitted detailed written complaints to the Commission, demanding the cancellation of these examinations. The candidates informed Mr. Hooda that 24 questions in the History paper were copied verbatim from a question paper for the recruitment of Assistant Professors by the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission. The HPSC did not even bother to modify the questions, not in language nor in context. Mr. Attrey, however, accused the Congress of arbitrarily distributing jobs to its 'near and dear ones' during its ten-year rule, adding that the party was perturbed over change in system during the rule of the BJP, which had ensured jobs on merit.

Cong leader Surjewala alleges tampering in HPSC recruitment exam, seeks inquiry

Hisar: Congress leader and party general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has called for a judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities in the assistant professor (geography) recruitment exam conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing journalists in Hisar, Surjewala accused the HPSC and the Nayab Singh Saini-led government of betraying the trust of thousands of meritorious candidates. He alleged that 17 questions in the June 8 exam were deliberately tampered with, correct answers were changed to incorrect ones, and valid questions were removed from evaluation. He termed this manipulation, especially in a paper with negative marking, as a grave injustice. Surjewala provided specific examples, stating that answers to six questions (26, 28, 35, 37, 44, and 46) were altered. He highlighted question 46, which matched a 2017 HTET question where Jean Gottman was the correct answer, but was changed to Patrick Geddes in the current exam. He also claimed that 10 questions were removed from the revised answer key without academic justification, including six (9, 17, 20, 32, 36, and 63) that were completely valid. Of questions 13, 19, 43, 52, and 76, at least two had correct answers but were also removed. Surjewala alleged that 32 questions were lifted from the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) geography exam - 26 directly and 6 partially. He said that even HPSC chairman Alok Verma is from Bihar, suggesting the source paper may have been leaked to favoured candidates. He also pointed out that no assistant professor (college cadre) appointments have been made in Haryana since 2019. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In Aug 2024, HPSC advertised 2,424 posts across 26 subjects, attracting over 1.5 lakh applicants. Surjewala cited previous controversies, including the May 29 political science paper, where the seal was found broken, and the June 1 Hindi exam, where six question paper envelopes were open and 27 questions were incorrect. Despite this, HPSC chairman dismissed concerns, blaming packing errors. The Hindi paper was later cancelled on June 3 following public outrage. Surjewala concluded by demanding an independent judicial inquiry to uncover the truth and ensure justice for thousands of deserving candidates.

Delhi Confidential: Seed of distrust

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan faced an awkward moment during a visit to a village in his constituency, Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday. The minister was interacting with local farmers when some of them complained about substandard soybean seeds. The farmers led him to their fields, where he himself dug into the soil and discovered that the seeds had failed to germinate. Chouhan promptly directed district officials to take strict action against the seed supplier. Observers are now wondering what further steps will be taken against those responsible for distributing poor-quality seeds in the minister's constituency. Utsav In Moscow The Manezhnaya Square in Moscow, adjacent to the Kremlin Wall, is bustling with Indian song and dance performances these days as part of the nine-day Bharat Utsav, which kicked off Saturday. Besides Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar, several senior functionaries from the Capital are participating, including Chief Secretary Dharmendra and Tourism Secretary Niharika Rai. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently met Sergei Cheremin, Minister of the Moscow City Government, and exchanged views on enhancing ties between the two cities, in terms of urban management, tourism and transport. Marathi & MVA Wading into the Hindi-Marathi language row in Maharashtra, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said the attacks on Hindi-speaking people by MNS workers is 'dadagiri (bullying) against Hindus'. Talking about the reunion of the Thackeray cousins — MNS's Raj Thackeray and Sena (UBT)'s Uddhav Thakeray — he said if the two join hands for the upcoming Mumbai civic polls, it will give a political advantage to the ruling Mahayuti alliance. A tie-up between MNS and Sena (UBT) will harm the Opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi as the Congress and NCP will not join hands with them, said the minister.
