Mother of the bride sparks fury with dress for daughter's wedding, but says she's fed up being a ‘background player'

The Sun8 hours ago
A MOTHER of the bride has sparked fury after revealing her dress for her daughter's wedding.
Despite the fact the 28-year-old bride told her mum she wanted her to look "elegant and understated" - the latter being the keyword - she opted for a full-length WHITE corset dress.

In a post on Facebook, she said her daughter had asked her to wear a "classic and timeless" ensemble, adding "maybe something in navy".
"Translation: boring and invisible," she wrote.
"She also said she didn't care if I wear something bright.
"I've spent so much of my life being the background player in everyone else's story that I almost forgot I deserved to be seen too."
The dress is emblazoned with sunflowers on the bodice and all the way down, and has a tulle-style underskirt to make it look even puffier.
She added that the gown makes her "feel alive in a way I haven't in years".
"The sunflowers are bold and joyful, exactly how I want to feel watching my baby girl say her vows," she said.
"But every time I look at it, I hear her voice telling me it's 'too much' for a mother of the bride, that people will think I'm trying to upstage her on her special day."
However, she said she can't decided whether or not she's "finally ready to take up space instead of shrinking to make others comfortable".
"Maybe it's time to be the sunflower instead of the wallflower?" she concluded.

But the comments section was quickly filled with people taking aim at the woman.
"Omg you absolutely cannot wear this to a wedding," one person gasped.
"What an interesting time to choose to be seen.
"Wear what she is asking, it's HER day!"
"I thought this was a wedding dress…" another mused.
"Her wedding is about her. Not you," a third insisted.
Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette
If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.
Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not.
Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride.
"You don't need an excuse to wear what you find beautiful.
"HOWEVER, RESPECT your daughters request and wear that particular dress ANOTHER day."
"This is a background event for you," someone else agreed.
"It's lovely but you don't want people talking about your dress - hers is the one."
"I absolutely love this dress but... I'm sorry you should not wear this dress to your daughters wedding," another wrote.
"It is HER day to shine and be the main focus not you in this dress that looks like a wedding dress.

Sir Billy Connolly sending ‘love & cuddles' as he issues alarming warning to fans

The comedy legend shared the worrying update with his legions of fans on his official channels. 'BE AWARE' Sir Billy Connolly sending 'love & cuddles' as he issues alarming warning to fans Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SIR Billy Connolly has warned online scammers are using AI to recreate his voice and likeness in order to extort his fans. The comedy legend, 82, said he had become aware of multiple accounts impersonating him on social media and targeting his followers. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up Fans who follow the comedian's official Facebook page have been sent messages by bogus accounts pretending to be him. They are encouraged to move the conversation over to a private messaging app before being asked to send money to secure merchandise or a meeting with Billy. Billy has insisted he would never engage directly with fans online and said his wife Pamela Stephenson, 75, is also being impersonated online as part of the scam. The Glasgow-born comic said his Facebook page is his only active social media account and warned that scammers can use AI to convince people they are in touch with him. In a statement issued on his official website, Billy said: "Dear friends, I have learned that, unfortunately, online scam artists are targeting my fans and supporters. "They are impersonating me, often reaching out to fans soliciting direct messaging. They create multiple deceptive social media and email accounts, and there could well be criminal intent. "For the protection of all my fans and supporters, please be aware of the following: I NEVER interact directly with fans or supporters, and would never suggest they direct message me, meet me, send me money or purchase goods directly. "I do not sell memberships, fan cards, meetings. I will never suggest meeting personally or ask for personal information. "If you are asked for any of the above, it is a scam. My likeness and the sound of my voice can be created by AI so beware. "My wife Pamela is also being impersonated, but please be aware that neither she nor any of my children have public social media accounts or pages. Sir Billy Connolly honoured with BAFTA Fellowship - BAFTAS 2022 "Please be safe everyone. Love and cuddles, Billy." One of his fans online posted: "I've had no less than 12 scammers message me saying they're Billy Connolly. We all know they aren't, I mean they can barely sound coherent, let alone like someone from Scotland. "As long as they're chatting with me, they aren't stealing money from vulnerable people. There's a special place in hell for scammers." Another follower said she had been contacted by someone pretending to be one of Billy's daughters after she posted a comment on a fan page. Earlier this year it was revealed a scammer had tricked a French woman into believing she was dating Brad Pitt, before persuading her to part with almost £700,000 using AI images and videos. Billy retired from stand-up after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He discovered he had the illness 13 years ago after a doctor spotted him walking strangely through the lobby of a hotel in Los Angeles. He moved to Florida from his previous home in New York after doctors advised him to live in a warmer climate.

Jojo Siwa hints at her plans to start a family with boyfriend Chris Hughes after being forced to deny pregnancy rumours

JoJo Siwa has revealed her plans to start a family 'aren't that far away,' as her romance with boyfriend Chris Hughes heats up. The couple cemented their relationship in May after meeting in the Celebrity Big Brother house in April, and have since documented their loved-up trips together on social media. And after travelling to the UK to promote her new song Raspy, JoJo has told The Sun that she 'craves' motherhood in the future. The Dance Moms star, 22, was previously forced to deny speculation she was pregnant after the wild theory circulated on TikTok. Asked whether she still wants children, she said: 'I crave them, I absolutely would love to have babies, it's absolutely in my future and I don't think it's that far away. 'I'm at a place in my life where my career by no means is slowing down, but my career is at a point where it works and it runs and I know how to do everything that I'm doing and I'm not learning anything new, so I'm at a great place with that. 'Obviously I have a great boy in my life, there's a lot of things to happen before then, but definitely want kids.' During the interview, JoJo also hinted that she and Chris have plans for a holiday together this autumn, after the star wraps her Infinity Heart tour in October. JoJo previously poked fun at rumours that she was pregnant in June after a loved-up TikTok video with boyfriend Chris sent fans wild with speculation. She asked her fans to play the game '2 truths & a lie' - before she read out three statements, one being a lie and the other two being truthful. She then said: '1. I've never smoked a [cigarette] 2. I'm pregnant 3. This song comes out on Spotify Friday.' JoJo was playing into online speculation that she could be expecting after Chris gently rubbed his finger over her tummy during a recent TikTok video. Fans wrote things like, 'Pregnancy craving???' as she tucked into a plate of red food. After JoJo shared the 'two truths and a lie' video, social media users jumped to the comments to choose which option was the lie, while others applauded JoJo for nonchalantly poking fun at the pregnancy speculation. Comments included: 'Everyone's saying it's 1 or 3, meaning everyone thinks she's pregnant; You Gonna be a Dance mom.' 'Not you addressing the pregnancy rumours in the most hilarious fashion; 'oelle not u egging on the pregnant rumors. You're too funny.' Chris recently revealed he turned his relationship with JoJo from friendship into romance by putting his feelings down on paper. The pair became instant friends on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year and began dating after the final. Chris told how he went to the US to surprise JoJo for her birthday and wrote down his feelings on a piece of paper in a hotel bar in order to tell her how he really felt. Speaking to The Sun, he said: 'I was confused about how I felt. Then I wasn't confused anymore. I knew I needed to write it down to explain to her how I was feeling. 'I went to Florida thinking "I really like this person", but I was slightly confused about the feelings. I had already written her birthday card before I flew over. I took all these presents over for her. They were fun and sentimental gifts rather than anything of monetary value. 'But the night before her birthday, I realised my feelings had changed. I told her: "I've got to go do something. I'll be back in half an hour." I went to the hotel reception and borrowed a pen and came back up to the room.' Chris said he loved JoJo as a friend at first but his feelings began to change towards the end of the series. Up until her relationship with Chris, JoJo had identified as a lesbian and was in a relationship with Australian influencer Kath Ebbs, although they quickly broke up after she left the Big Brother house.
