New Jaecoo E5 is a Range Rover lookalike with a very attractive price
The E5 is powered by a 61.1kWh battery and 204bhp front-mounted electric motor, which deliver an official range of up to 248 miles – more than the Ford, which is good for 233 miles at most from a single charge; meanwhile, the 0-62mph sprint should take 7.7 seconds. The Jaecoo's 80kW maximum charging speed is behind the curve, but still sufficient for a 30 to 80 per cent top-up in 27 minutes.
If you're after a rugged-looking petrol-powered SUV, the larger Jaecoo 7 (a rival for the MINI Countryman and BMW X1) is available through the Auto Express Find a Car service from £30,115 or just over £250 per month thanks to our latest lease deals. Advertisement - Article continues below
Even though the E5 is an electric 'urban‑friendly SUV', Jaecoo claims it's up to venturing off the beaten track; its approach angle of 20 degrees and departure angle of 30 degrees are nearly identical to the Jeep Avenger's. Plus every model features a 540‑degree panoramic camera system. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging capability means owners can use the car's large battery to power a laptop or camping equipment. Plus there's a 'Pet Mode', like in Teslas and the new Kia EV5, which keeps the cabin cool and secure if you have to quickly pop into a shop or are perhaps setting up tents.
Inside, all Jaecoo E5s feature a 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen, which will be used to control almost every function because there are hardly any buttons. But there supposedly more than 35 storage spaces dotted around the cabin, plus a 480‑litre boot that expands to 1,180 litres when the rear seats are folded down.
The E5 is available in two trim levels: Pure and Luxury. Standard kit includes the big touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a six-speaker Sony stereo, six-way manually adjustable front seats, a suite of 19 driver-assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, and a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty.
Upgrading to Luxury spec brings the price up to £30,505, and adds a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and an eight-speaker Sony sound system.

Belfast M3 Lagan Bridge to close for repairs as motorists warned about traffic
Motorists have been warned to expect delays and disruption in Belfast this weekend due to repairs on one of the city's busiest M3 Lagan Bridge will be closed all day on Saturday and Sunday to traffic coming from east were long tailbacks in the city two weeks ago when the bridge was closed in the opposite and disruption are "inevitable" this weekend, according to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI). The 30-year-old bridge carries, on average, 90,000 vehicles a day.A DfI spokesperson said: "If you are travelling to Belfast International Airport or north or west please ask yourself do you need to drive across Belfast, or can you take another route such as via the A55 outer ring."If you are travelling into the city to enjoy some shopping or leisure, or if you are attending an event at Custom House Square or Belfast Mela, remember to factor the bridge closure into your travel plans."Allow extra time, look at the alternative routes or consider using public transport if you can."The M3 is used by drivers to by-pass the city centre. It connects the Sydenham Bypass in east Belfast to the M2 in north from east Belfast will not be allowed to cross the M3 from 21:00 GMT on Friday until 06:00 GMT on road will be closed from Bridge End to the M2 closure is to allow essential repairs to bearings under the bridge which are showing signs of corrosion and movement. Delaying work could cause 'structural damage' The DfI spokesperson explained: "For safety reasons, the work cannot just be undertaken overnight as the bridge has to be jacked up to replace the bearings and time is required to allow the concrete plinths to strengthen before traffic can be allowed to travel over it again."Delaying the work now could result in further structural damage and longer closures at a later date."This weekend's repairs are part of a £400,000 maintenance this year, a £3.8m resurfacing project at the Sydenham Bypass was completed after six months of DfI has thanked the travelling public for their patience while the improvement schemes take of a 10km race in Carrickfergus on Sunday have warned runners to leave extra time for their journey if travelling through Belfast.

Congestion Charge: Calls for TfL to keep electric car exemption
Transport for London (TfL) is facing calls to reconsider removing the electric vehicle exemption to the Congestion Baker, Labour's City Hall spokesperson for transport, said this would be "counter-productive" and create barriers for Londoners to move away from petrol and 100% Cleaner Vehicle Discount is scheduled to end on 25 December and will be replaced by a 25% discount for electric cars and a 50% reduction for larger electric say continuing the full discount "would lead to worsening traffic" and make the Congestion Charge less effective. The plans also include raising the Congestion Charge fee from £15 to £18 from 2 January means that people with an electric car would need to pay £13.50 every time they drive into central London, and traders with electric vans would pay £ changes are expected to raise an additional £40 million in the first year. 'We should be making it easier' In a letter to TfL, Ms Baker said: "Businesses need deliveries, as do hospitals and schools. Small businesses such as electricians and plumbers still need to enter the Congestion Charge zone to work."She warned that these plans would lead to small businesses returning to petrol or diesel Baker, who also chairs the London Assembly Transport Committee, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: "If we want Londoners to switch to cleaner vehicles, we should be making it easier, not harder." The Conservatives have expressed support for Ms Baker's Turrell, environment spokesperson for the City Hall Conservatives, said: "Forcing electric vehicles to pay the Congestion Charge removes incentives from drivers and businesses from switching to greener vehicles." Ms Baker's letter also raised the issue of car clubs, saying they should be treated differently from private electric wrote: "Car clubs are a key tool to reduce need for car ownership and, as a result, reduce car journeys."Congestion charge policies should support car clubs as a tool to reduce unnecessary journeys and support a transition to cleaner vehicles."Car clubs are short-term car rental services which allow members to use locally-parked cars for individual journeys, meaning they can give up their cars whilst allowing for occasional car said the current proposals risked making it more difficult for these clubs to operate. A TfL spokesperson said in response: "Without the changes proposed, the Congestion Charge would become less effective, with an estimated additional 2,200 vehicles in the zone on an average weekday."We are proposing a new Cleaner Vehicle Discount for those who do not need to drive so they can still benefit from a discount if they drive an electric vehicle."They added that there will be a greater discount for "journeys that are harder to switch to walking, cycling or public transport", such as commercial also defended the decision by saying it was announced in December 2018, giving drivers seven years' advance notice. The Congestion Charge was introduced in central London in 2003, covering the area within the Inner London Ring includes the City of London and the West End, with 136,000 residents living inside the most recent increase to the fee was in June 2020, when it was raised from £11.50 to £15.
