Nga: No issue with probe into MyKiosk initiative
"I would like to invite Tan Sri Azam Baki (chief commissioner of MACC) to my office for tea (to discuss further)," he said after the pre-launch of the Minister's Excellence Award and the Ministry's Media Excellence Awards today.
Nga also said that the ministry would lodge reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission against individuals spreading false information on social media about its MyKiosk initiative.
"We are actively gathering video evidence. Reports will be made to the MCMC under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and to the police under the Penal Code, as spreading false information is a criminal offence.
"If you dare to spread fake news, we will take action. You will be held accountable," he warned.
The ministry has defended the MyKiosk project and has dismissed claims that it has become a white elephant.
The MyKiosk programme aims to support street vendors by providing proper facilities at minimal cost.
Nga had also clarified that the increase in the cost of kiosks to RM25,000 each under the MyKiosk 2.0 programme is due to significant design improvements aimed at of small traders
Nga said the ministry had been transparent about the MyKiosk project, with 156 local authorities already receiving kiosk allocations to support targeted communities.
The widely quoted RM25,000 per kiosk is only a ceiling price, he said, adding that "local councils are free to appoint contractors through open bidding, with some kiosks reportedly costing as low as RM13,000 to RM15,000."
Nga said these kiosks are equipped with solar panels, fans, LED lighting, kitchen modules and portable batteries, making them Malaysia's first green energy micro-business infrastructure.
In the upgraded MyKiosk 2.0 version, he said improvements include better battery life, modular solar systems, improved roofing, hydraulic windows, and reinforced structures.
Nga said the state that received the highest number of kiosks is Johor, with a total of 1,185 kiosks.
The project has received strong support, especially from single mothers who credit it for helping them sustain their livelihoods, he said.
"We will continue to intensify efforts to support the people. The welfare of the rakyat remains a top priority for the Madani government," Nga added.

KUCHING: The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that late delivery compensation for homes in Sarawak should be calculated from the date the booking fee is paid, not the date of the sale and purchase agreement (SPA). Separately, the Court allowed Sentoria Borneo Land Sdn Bhd to discharge its legal team in an ongoing appeal involving purchasers of Borneo Samariang Resort City serviced apartments. The Tribunal, represented by the Sarawak State Attorney-General's Chambers, is defending its awards under the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Ordinance 2013. The case will return for case management on September 12, 2025.

Senior Armed Forces officers among 10 remanded by MACC in smuggling probe
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of ten individuals, including five senior Armed Forces officers, who were detained over suspected involvement in a smuggling syndicate operating in the southern region of the country have been remanded. The others remanded were two online portal journalists, a company manager, an administrative assistant at the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and a foreign woman. Four male suspects have been remanded for Aug 20. Another two men and one woman will be remanded until Aug 18, while two men and an Indonesian woman will be detained until Aug 15. The remand orders were issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) filed the application at a Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Aug 14). "The senior military intelligence officers are believed to have colluded with the syndicate, leaking operational details to help them avoid enforcement action. "The smuggled items included drugs, cigarettes and other goods from neighbouring countries, with an estimated value of RM5mil each month,' the source said. The investigation, carried out over the past 12 months, found that the syndicate allegedly paid between RM30,000 and RM50,000 to the military officers for each smuggling operation. The officers' involvement was described as extensive and complex. During Wednesday's operation, MACC also seized more than RM63,000 in cash, several packets of suspected drugs, weighing and measuring equipment, alcohol, and a replica firearm. MACC senior director of Intelligence Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin when contacted, confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated for corruption and money laundering activities.
