PDWP approves nine uplift schemes worth over Rs52bn
The approvals were granted during the second PDWP meeting for the fiscal year 2025–26, chaired by Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman of the Planning & Development Board.
Key agricultural initiatives include the revised Chief Minister's Programme for the solarisation of agricultural tube-wells (Rs7.229 billion), an internship scheme for agriculture graduates (Rs2.155 billion), and the Chief Minister Punjab Kissan Card scheme (Rs9.868 billion).
Additionally, the PDWP gave a green light to Phase-II of the Punjab Green Tractor Programme (Rs5.076 billion), the Punjab Hi-Power Tractor Programme (Rs9.580 billion), and a project for agricultural transformation in the Potohar region (Rs7 billion).
In the local government sector, the establishment of a Project Implementation and Management Unit (PIMU) under the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC), along with Service Delivery Units (SDUs), was approved at an estimated cost of Rs4.030 billion.
Two major infrastructure projects were also sanctioned: the construction of underpasses at GPO Chowk and TM Chowk on Mall Road, including a pedestrian underpass near AFIC in Rawalpindi (Rs5.551 billion), and the widening of the road from District Complex to Kakuwal Bridge with a flyover in Mandi Bahauddin (Rs1.864 billion).
The meeting was attended by Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali, Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board, and other senior officials.

No-confidence cloud gathers over Gandapur in K-P
A political storm may be brewing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Governor Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed on Saturday that both the ruling alliance and opposition are seriously weighing a no-confidence move against Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur – amid a shifting tide in assembly numbers following the Supreme Court's ruling on reserved seats. In an exclusive conversation, the K-P governor said the opposition reserves the democratic right to bring a no-confidence motion against the provincial government whenever it has a numerical edge in the assembly, saying why would any opposition wait if it has the numbers. Governor Kundi clarified that there has been no formal attempt by the opposition to oust the K-P government yet, but the opposition was actively working to consolidate support. "We (ruling alliance and provincial opposition) are seriously working on it. The numbers have changed in the assembly. The opposition is not in a hurry but it won't wait when the numbers are complete," he said. Governor Kundi said the opposition parties currently hold around 54 seats in the K-P Assembly and see an opening to secure support from nearly 35 independent members. "No opposition party would wait even for a second if it can outnumber the ruling party in any assembly," he said. With the support of the independent MPAs, Governor Kundi, while responding to a question, said that the task of removing the PTI-led K-P government was achievable, as the defection clause would not apply to them. In 2024, the Supreme Court had held that lawmakers who cross the floor will have their votes counted, even if they are subsequently disqualified. This would necessitate by-elections on any seats they vacate. In contrast, if the opposition relies on independent members for support, no by-elections would arise, as their participation does not violate constitutional provisions. Under Article 136 of the Constitution, the chief minister can be removed through a vote of no-confidence supported by a majority of the total membership of the provincial assembly. Alternatively, under Article 130(7), the governor can ask the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence if he believes the leader of the house no longer commands majority support. In both cases, the support of at least 73 MPAs is required in the 145-member assembly, indicating that the opposition is currently short by about 19 to 20 votes. Governor Kundi dismissed the notion that the ruling alliance at the Centre was rushing into any political manoeuvring. "Work is in progress. When the numbers are there, we won't delay," he said. In reference to CM Gandapur's repeated public taunts and warnings, Kundi said: "The chief minister keeps throwing challenges. But we will act when it matters." Drawing a parallel with the political events of April 2022, Kundi recalled that a no-confidence motion against then Prime Minister Imran Khan was successfully executed back then. "At that time too, the PTI government claimed no one could dislodge them. Everyone saw what happened next," he said. Asked whether Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had instructed him to initiate the move against the K-P government during their recent meeting, the governor clarified that while the matter was discussed, there were no specific directions issued. "Yes, we discussed the situation after the reserved seats decision, but there was no order or specific task given from the prime minister," he said. On a lighter note, Kundi, while referring to CM K-P's repeated challenges that he would quit politics if anyone ousts him, said "we don't want Gandapur to become unemployed or quit politics." Commenting on coordination within the opposition, Kundi acknowledged the political relevance of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and said interactions take place to discuss different things and the rapidly changing political situation. Kundi said that Maulana is a senior figure with vast political experience, saying meetings and consultations with political leaders like him are routinely held. The recent changes in the reserved seat allocations have altered the political equation in K-P, prompting discussions at the highest level within the ruling coalition. While no formal step has yet been taken, political observers believe the possibility of a no-confidence motion has become significantly possible if independents change sides. They say that the coming days are likely to be decisive in determining whether the PTI retains its grip on the province or faces a repeat of April 2022.

ANP chief decries 'shameful' seats verdict
ANP chief Aimal Wali Khan has lambasted the judiciary for undoing its earlier verdict with regard to allocation of reserved seats to Imran Khan's PTI, stating that the June 28 order of the Supreme Court is even more shameful than the alleged rigging that took place in Feb 8, 2024 general elections. "The buying and selling on February 8 was shameful but the decision on the reserved seats is even more disgraceful," Aimal said on Saturday. "If you have already brought them [PTI lawmakers] in, then go ahead and give them the reserved seats too. You were not afraid back when you handed them 93 MPAs [in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly] because people in uniform managed each and every seat," he claimed. The ruling parties got another victory on the legal front as a constitutional bench (CB) of the SC on June 28 set aside the apex court's July 12, 2024 judgement, which had resurrected the PTI as a parliamentary party and allowed it to get reserved seats in legislatures. The order ended the chance for the PTI to enter parliament. It also affected the Senate election in the K-P Assembly, while also posing existential threat to the PTI government in the K-P. The ANP president also rejected the prime minister's committee formed for the former tribal districts. He said even the nominated chairman of the committee would not be acceptable. "What would members brought in from Punjab know about Pashtun traditions?" he asked. Aimal warned that if there is any backtracking on the 25th Constitutional Amendment then his party would take to the streets. "Even after sacrificing 18 lives, the state remains silent. This is not normal; it is a tragedy." He said there will also be no compromise on the 18th Amendment, which, according to him, was secured by his father, Asfandyar Wali Khan. He lamented that helicopters that did not come for flood victims arrived to transport VIPs.

PTI launches province-wide movement for Imran's release
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter has formally launched the public phase of its campaign titled "Release the Party Founder Movement". The initiative is being spearheaded by PTI K-P President Junaid Akbar Khan and will span the entire province. A detailed directive has been issued by General Secretary Ali Asghar Khan, instructing each regional chapter to hold two to three major public events — such as rallies, processions, and conventions — on a weekly basis. These events will be led by local MPAs and ticket holders, while district and tehsil-level leadership, including MNAs and local chairpersons, have been directed to provide full support. All subsidiary wings of the party, including the Insaf Students Federation (ISF), Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), and the youth, women, labour, and minority wings, have been mobilised to play a frontline role in the movement. They have been tasked with engaging directly with constituents and spreading the campaign message at the grassroots level. Organisational units at the regional, district, and tehsil levels have been assigned the responsibility of expanding the movement's reach and converting public sentiment into actionable support. Consultative meetings will be held across all regions in the coming week, with Junaid Akbar Khan presiding. These gatherings will finalise the next phase of the campaign.
