'I Can Never Be Madhuri And She Can Never Be Me': Can You Guess Which Star Said This?

1/8 The two stars shared screen space in Swati (1986). The romantic drama, directed by Kranthi Kumar, featured Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead as Swati, with Madhuri Dixit playing her stepsister. The film showcased both actresses' talents and is considered a significant work in their respective careers. (Image: IMDb) Damini (1993) was a groundbreaking film, and perhaps Meenakshi's career best too. Reportedly, director Rajkumar Santoshi fell in love with her, and ended up proposing marriage to her. However, the actor turned down Santoshi's offer, following which things turned sour between the two. Allegedly, the director wanted to replace Meenakshi mid-way; Madhuri was reportedly approached (among other actresses). (Image: IMDb) In a 2024 interview with Bombay Times, Meenakshi reiterated: "I can never be Madhuri and she can never be me." She dismissed the notion of rivalry, rather stating that she and Madhuri are unique and cannot be compared. (Image: Instagram) At the peak of her career, Meenakshi quit Bollywood and shifted to the US after her marriage to investment banker Harish Mysore. Madhuri, on the other hand, continued her reign as one of the most successful actresses in the Hindi film industry. (Image: Instagram)

Various locations throughout the city organized worship ceremonies, aartis, bhajan kirtans, and engaging matki phod competitions. The most grandiose celebration was held at the ISKCON temple in Patel Nagar, regarded as the state's largest Janmashtami event. The largest celebration took place at the ISKCON temple in Patel Nagar, recognized as the state's biggest Janmashtami event. Other prominent venues like ISKCON Kolar, Karunadham Ashram, Maa Vaishno Dham Adarsh Nau Durga temple, and Birla Mandir also hosted special events. At the ISKCON temple in Patel Nagar, devotees experienced a spiritually immersive festival adorned with elaborate decorations. The ISKCON Kolar temple dressed Lord Radha Govind in a special flower outfit made from blossoms sourced from Nashik, Pune, Mumbai, and Indore, while Karunadham Ashram received an eco-friendly floral dress from Nagpur. Matki phod competitions delighted participants and spectators alike, with one matki suspended at 51 feet in Lalghati and another at 21 feet in Nehru Nagar. Winners received cash prizes, adding excitement to the celebrations. A representative from ISKCON Kolar said the festival began with mangal aarti at 4:30 am. Unbelievable, but validating: Cinematographer Meenakshi on her National Award win

Meenakshi, who worked as an assistant director on Kammattippaadam and assisted cinematographer Salu K Thomas in Kaathal – The Core , is the co-cinematographer of Little Wings along with the late Saravanamaruthu Soundarapandi, who will be receiving the award posthumously. For Meenakshi Soman, winning the National Award for Best Cinematography (non-feature film) for her work in the Tamil short film Little Wings has been 'validating'. She says, 'I woke up to a bunch of messages and calls. It was unbelievable, but Little Wings had a good screening at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and won at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). So, we knew that the film was good.' Meenakshi, who worked as an assistant director on Kammattippaadam and assisted cinematographer Salu K Thomas in Kaathal – The Core , is the co-cinematographer of Little Wings along with the late Saravanamaruthu Soundarapandi, who will be receiving the award posthumously. 'It's his work as well, and it's great to know that he's leaving behind a lovely legacy. I was an associate in the first schedule and a DOP in the second. We didn't shoot together. We filmed for six days, of which he shot the first schedule (the first four days). In the second schedule, I took over and shot whatever was left,' she says. Ask her what she kept in mind while taking over the cinematography from Saravanamaruthu Soundarapandi for the last two days of the shoot, and she says, 'He trusted me. His brief was, 'You know what it is; go do it. ' He had a specific way of framing that landscape and people, which I had observed in the first schedule. And I kept that in mind. Before I went on to shoot myself, I watched the cut multiple times. I guess a lot of people who watch the film don't realise that there were two cinematographers till it's mentioned in the end credits. ' Meenakshi's journey to winning the National Award wasn't without its challenges. 'This was the first time that I worked on a script from Tamil Nadu. I'm a Malayali and barely speak Tamil. But when the story is that good, these challenges don't seem too much,' she says and recalls, 'During COVID, the DOP put up a story that he wanted somebody to help him for this film, and I got selected. I was staying in Kochi at the time, and the shoot was happening 300-350 kilometres away, in Bodinayakanur. I took my mother's twowheeler, and rode there with all the permits and permissions.'
