Caleb Williams' 2024 struggles become 2025's high expectations
There are a few quarterbacks heading into this season with a lot to prove. While some face a year which could be their last chance to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, second-year quarterback Caleb Williams has been labeled as the quarterback with the most to prove this season.
Vincent Parise analyzes former Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams being under dire pressure to succeed this season in a recent feature for Bears Wire:
"Their youth, led by second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, gives them hope, but it's very unproven. It is going to take some time for them to show their full potential, if they do ever reach it. The national media is pretty 'in the middle' when it comes to projecting the Bears. Most of that stems from the unknown surrounding the quarterback situation. On ESPN's First Take, commentator and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky said Williams is the quarterback with the most to prove in the NFL this season. He was the top guy on a list, followed by Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), J.J. McCarthy (Minnesota Vikings), Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), and Anthony Richardson (Indianapolis Colts).
"'It is go time for Caleb Williams,' Orlovsky said. 'You have to go out and show that you are the talent, the player, and the future of the organization for a team and a place that desperately has been begging for it.' Although Orlovsky has had some controversial takes throughout his tenure in broadcasting, nothing he said is necessarily wrong. Although, you could argue a pair of former No. 1 picks should be higher than Williams on that list given their situations and the fact that Williams is only entering his second season."
It would be a disappointment if Caleb Williams did not have a successful season under Ben Johnson, but he should get some grace given this is his first year in one of the more complex offenses in the NFL. With Caleb Williams' talent and work ethic, coupled with Ben Johnson's track record as a offensive guru, Bears fans should be optimistic that this year being a failure with Caleb and Ben Johnson is one of the least probable outcomes we will see in 2025.
At the very least, if it isn't a playoff season for the Chicago Bears, we should still expect to see Caleb take necessary steps as a passer and show a great amount of growth in Year 2. Caleb's overall development carries way more weight than the Bears being a first round exit this season.

Bengals coaches working to "showcase" Chase Brown's tools this season
Quarterback Joe Burrow isn't the only member of the Bengals who thinks running back Chase Brown has big things ahead of him this season. After a quiet rookie season, the 2023 fifth-round pick broke out with 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns for the Bengals in 2024. That left offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher to call him "a top-10 back in the league" and he said the team wants Brown "ready to touch the ball as many times as possible.' That goal led the team's offensive coaches to rethink their run scheme for the 2025 season and running backs coach Justin Hill said the conversations were focused on Brown above all else. 'At the end of the conversation, it wasn't about what we think looks good on the board,' Hill said, via Charlie Goldsmith of the Associated Press. "[It was] what is Chase good at? How can we showcase his tools in the run game and in the pass game? Where we have in the run game right now is pretty true to who we think Chase is and what he can be.' The Bengals showed that they can feed plenty of mouths on offense in 2024. They'd like to do that again this season while also winning enough games to see if their revised approach can lead to a long postseason run.

With 25 days till the Cardinals open the season against the Saints, we look at the players who have worn No. 25. We are counting down to the start of the 2025 regular season for the Arizona Cardinals, and that is less than four weeks away. They will open the season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7. That is 25 days away. As we count down the remaining days of the offseason, let's look at who has worn that number uniform over the years for the Cardinals. Who has worn No. 25? Cardinals players to wear No. 25 Outside linebacker Zaven Collins has worn No. 25 for a few years. He is a key player on the defense. He led the team with five sacks in 2024, and he is one of the coaches' favorite players. Collins has been solid, but Bakken is clearly the top No. 25 in franchise history. He holds basically every all-time kicking record. Norton is super interesting because he was a good punter and also a good safety. He was a Pro Bowler all three years with the Cardinals and once an All-Pro. In 1960, he led the NFL in punting average and had a league-leading 10 interceptions. Bills, RB James Cook agree to $48 million extension
Cook is now one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL After a lengthy hold-in, James Cook and the Buffalo Bills finally have a deal. On Wednesday, Cook agreed to an extension with the Bills. He'll sign a four-year, $48 million deal to remain in Buffalo, getting $30 million guaranteed on his new contract. Cook had been in attendance at training camp but he was not participating in practice until Tuesday. He returned to the field and was a full participant, a sign that there was a positive development in contract talks between his agent and the team. Cook, who's in his fourth season in the NFL, was seeking a raise before his rookie deal expired at the end of the 2025 campaign. He certainly got one, bumping his salary up to $12 million per year. That puts him tied with Josh Jacobs as the sixth-highest-paid running back in the NFL based on annual salary. His $30 million guaranteed is the third-most at the position, with the total value tied for the highest of any running back in the NFL, matching Jacobs' number. Last season, Cook rushed for 1,009 yards on just 207 carries, leading the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns. He earned his second straight Pro Bowl selection thanks to his 1,267 scrimmage yards and 18 total touchdowns. In 2023, he set a career-high with 1,567 yards from scrimmage, but he only scored six total touchdowns that year and had four fumbles. Considered one of the most explosive backs in football, the Bills keep him in the backfield behind Josh Allen as yet another weapon in this loaded offense.
