People get hooked at West Virginia Fishing, Hunting, and Outdoor Sports Show
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The 23rd West Virginia Fishing, Hunting, and Outdoor Sports Show took place over the weekend at the Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park, which offered a comprehensive selection of outdoor gear all under one roof.
Expo officials shared that the event offers something for the whole family, not just hunters and fishermen. In addition to the outdoor gear, attendees had the chance to see live reptiles, hawks, and falcons and enjoy some entertainment for kids.
Cpl. Aaron Clevenger with the West Virginia Natural Resources Police told 12 News that the event also teaches outdoor safety.
'We want everybody to be safe,' Clevenger said. 'As far as boating, you know, make sure all your equipment is good, have your life jackets. The hunting aspect of it, just make sure whatever you're shooting at you know what it is, identify your target, just be careful with a firearm.'

Organizers emphasized that bringing the show to life requires months of dedicated planning and preparation year-round. Preparations for next year's West Virginia Fishing, Hunting, and Outdoor Sports Show are already underway, with a waiting list for vendors.
Event Co-coordinator for the West Virginia Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Sports Show Kelly Ayersman also stressed that there is something for everyone at the show, no matter what kind of outdoor activity you enjoy.
'There is so much that will drive you outside, whether it's a motorcycle, whether it's trout pond fishing, we have trout pond in the back, the kids are absolutely loving it,' Ayersman said. 'And so, what we hope happens is that those kids turn and around and they're like, 'mom, dad instead of watching T.V. we want to go fish.'
Show officials highlighted that the event featured over 150 vendors across more than 200 booths, offering a diverse selection of products such as RVs, ATVs, boats, fishing rods, firearms, and ammunition.

2025 USA Diving American Cup held at Mylan Park
MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — Thirty-nine competitors across six countries came to Morgantown on Thursday to kick off the 2025 USA Diving American Cup at Mylan Park, where the best divers compete for spots in other international meets later in the year. Among the competitors are 16 Americans, eight female and eight male, who represent some of the best divers in the United States. The 2025 American Cup will have four days of competitions, and officially kicked off Thursday. The events on Thursday and Friday are preliminary competitions, where the athletes aim to make the finals, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday. During the finals, the top 12 competitors will face off for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions, and from there, they'll look to move on to some other international competitions or national competitions for their respective home countries. According to National Events Manager Michael Retcher, the Morgantown Aquatic Center has been home to many USA Diving national meets over the past few years, adding that the hospitality they've experienced there has been incredible. 'This is a world-class facility, truly, that is well-known amongst our athletes and the diving community,' he said. Power Up 2025 Conference looks to help small businesses in Morgantown Retcher also said that Visit Mountaineer Country and Peak Health Aquatic Center have been great partners with USA Diving, which is why the organization keeps coming back to hold competitions in Morgantown. 'The people, the experience here that we've had at our national-level events is awesome,' he said. 'Now we're showing the world on the international stage how awesome Morgantown, West Virginia, is and what a great job they do.' According to Retcher, international meets like this one can provide the first opportunity, and at other times additional opportunities, to get experience on the international stage. He also said that although there are U.S. athletes competing at this event, competitors in this international cup are trying to get experience to compete in the World Aquatics Championships and hopefully secure a spot in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. USA Diving wants to pack the stands throughout the duration of the 2025 USA Diving American Cup, and they encourage people in the Greater Morgantown Area to stop by. 'You don't have to know a thing about diving, you don't have to have ever seen diving before,' Retcher added. 'But it is so much fun to be here—to be up close and personal watching these divers, and it's just really an electric event.' Tickets for the event can be purchased online via Mylan Park's website. There, you can find a full event schedule for the coming days and also find information about volunteer opportunities. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Countdown is on: One year until 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to Massachusetts
BOSTON (WPRI) — With a year to go until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officials in Boston unveiled a countdown clock at Faneuil Hall. The international soccer tournament will be played in 16 host cities, including Boston. Seven games will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro from June 13 to July 9, including a quarterfinal matchup. The stadium is slated to undergo extensive renovations ahead of the tournament and will temporarily be named 'Boston Stadium' for the World Cup matches. RELATED: Providence leaders 'actively involved' in conversations to host 2026 World Cup team Since the tournament is expected to bring an influx of tourists and revenue to Southern New England, Providence leaders are already warning about the level of planning that needs to be done. Providence is looking to host one of the teams after FIFA released 14 base camp options, which the organization described as a 'training site and accommodation pairing that will serve as the primary base for teams during the group stage, where they will train, rest, and prepare for their matches.' Currently, only New York and New Jersey are the closest base camp options to New England. A FIFA spokesperson told 12 News that more options will be announced later this year. Separately, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) is meeting monthly to prepare for the matches, which will increase to bimonthly in August.
