BJP partner TIPRA Motha demands Bihar-like SIR in Tripura
A delegation of the party, headed by its founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya, demanded an extensive survey to identify the illegal voters on the electoral rolls.
'We have been affected and will be more if measures are not in place to identify and deport foreigners. We find the SIR exercise effective in Bihar, and it should be undertaken in Tripura as well,' Mr. Manikya said.
'Tripura and the entire northeast would suffer if we stayed silent on the infiltration of foreigners,' he stated. Mr. Manikya was joined by two Ministers in the State Cabinet – Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, and the party's firebrand MLA, Ranjit Debbarma. The BJP, which differs with the regional party on some issues, did not respond to the alliance partner's latest move.
The TIPRA founder clarified that they would not stay silent and would continue to press the demand. He commented that the indigenous native people would become further marginalised if appropriate steps are not taken.
30-33% of the population of Tripura is of indigenous people. Twenty of the sixty Assembly seats are reserved for the tribal, while the tribal autonomous district council has a 95% reservation for the ST people.
TIPRA Motha rose to the political landscape for its contentious Greater Tipraland demand, a theoretical State for the tribal people with areas carved out of Assam, Mizoram and even the hills of Bangladesh. The party has been getting support from the indigenous community in every election held over the past few years, but it has come under sharp criticism from the opposition CPI(M) and the Congress for not working for the development of the tribes, despite being in power in the autonomous district council and an alliance partner of the ruling coalition.

New Delhi: The vast majority of migrant workers from Bihar living outside the state are unaware of the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, according to a survey by the volunteer group Stranded Workers Action Network (SWAN). A survey of 338 migrant workers found that only 29% submitted documents from the EC's list, while 45% gave Aadhaar or voter ID, which weren't required. The survey found that 90% of migrant workers from Bihar living outside the state are unaware of the SIR. It also said that 68% of workers – both within Bihar and outside – lacked accurate information about the documents needed for SIR verification. The survey covered 338 migrant workers in and outside Bihar. Of those who reported visits, 29% said officials collected one of the documents from the EC's prescribed list. Another 45% said Aadhaar or voter ID cards were taken along with the enumeration form (EF), even though neither was part of the EC's 11 indicative documents for the exercise. Launched on June 24, the ECI described the SIR as long overdue, since the last revision in Bihar was conducted in 2003. The poll body said the drive aimed to remove bogus entries and update the rolls. Opposition parties, however, questioned its timing ahead of the state assembly polls and claimed it could 'disenfranchise lakhs of poor voters who cannot produce the requisite documents required to be submitted along with the enumeration forms.' The draft roll will be published on August 1, with the final list expected on September 30 after corrections. The SWAN survey noted that 35% of respondents lacked any of the SIR's 11 prescribed documents. Although an online EF submission portal was made available for migrants outside Bihar, the report found that 75% had never heard of it and fewer than 1% had submitted forms online.

According to him, during that meeting, KTR had proposed a merger of the BRS with the BJP in exchange for help in shielding BRS MLC K Kavitha from corruption probes. 'I informed senior BJP leaders about the conversation and made it clear that I had no interest in supporting a corrupt party,' he stated.

HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday reiterated his allegation that the Revanth Reddy government gave a Rs 1,660 crore road contract to BJP MP CM Ramesh. In return, the BJP-led Central government awarded a Rs 1,137 crore AMRUT contract to the brother-in-law of the chief minister, he claimed. 'Could there be a worse form of opportunistic politics than this? Could there be a more shameful quid pro quo? After I exposed the shady dealings of both Revanth and Ramesh, they are now in disarray — like rats caught in a trap, fighting to save themselves,' he said and wondered: 'A road for a non-existent Future City? And a Rs 1,660 crore contract for it?' 'They mortgaged HCU (Hyderabad Central University) lands to secure `10,000 crore in loans, and to reward those who facilitated this shady deal, they created a road out of nowhere. What I said then has now been proven true. With their corruption exposed, they are spinning false stories to divert public attention,' he alleged. 'Breaking rules and handing over massive contracts to favoured companies — this is second nature to your (Ramesh's) friend Revanth Reddy. It is now clear that the Rs 1,660 crore contract is a return gift to your friend for helping loot Rs 10,000 crore,' said the BRS working president.
