Sacramento Kings Ranked Last in Embarrassing NBA List

Yahoo02-05-2025

The Sacramento Kings have never really been a destination, but they aren't alone in that. Teams like the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans have struggled to lure stars, although the Kings are certainly in that camp.
While all 29 NBA teams patiently await any news surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade availability after the Milwaukee Bucks lost in the first round, the Kings are;t really in contention to land the Greek Freak, but are they the worst team in the running?

At least one expert thinks so.

In a recent list published by CBS Sports, the Kings were the 29th-best landing spot for the Greek Freak.
"They couldn't convince De'Aaron Fox to stay but they're convincing an MVP to stay?" asked Sam Quinn.
While the Kings are generally not expected to get involved in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, they could offer a better package than teams like the Portland Trail Blazers or Phoenix Suns.
The Kings can match salaries a variety of ways, have young players like Devin Carter, Keegan Murray, and Keon Ellis under contract, and have eight first-round picks to trade or swap.

Possible Mock Trade:
Bucks Receive: Zach LaVine, Devin Carter, Keegan Murray, 2026 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick (via SAS), 2028 first-round pick, 2031 first-round pick (SAS can swap)
Kings Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Will the Kings be the landing spot for the best player on the trade market? No, but he could do a lot worse than Sacramento.

Jay Williams blasts Stephen A. Smith for ‘asinine' Giannis Antetokounmpo take

Jay Williams and Stephen A. Smith traded barbs over their 'asinine' points in a back-and-forth on 'First Take,' which stemmed from comments Smith made about Giannis Antetokounmpo. The former NBA point guard took issue with Smith calling Antetokounmpo an 'underachiever' last week, leading Williams to call it 'one of your worst takes' and that it 'was horrible.' 'I think we really need to do a better job of reframing some of these conversations,' Williams said on Monday's episode. 'If you were to say that the franchise, the Milwaukee Bucks, have underachieved or are the biggest underachievers with the talent of Giannis, fair. But a guy who has a 50-point closeout game, a guy who has never chased any of these dream-team scenarios, a guy who is a Finals MVP, a guy who is a multi-time All-Star, All-NBA, all everything, global face of the game.' 3 Stephen A. Smith (l.) and Jay Williams (r.) on 'First Take' on June 16, 2025. YouTube/NBA on ESPN Williams noted how Antetokounmpo brought a championship to Milwaukee a mere four years ago. 'To call him an underachiever is just, I think, an asinine comment,' he said. 'Having the seat that you have, having the career that you've had, we gotta frame these conversations, 'cause there's no way in hell anybody who watches basketball, who knows the level of greatness that comes along with Giannis, would say that he's an underachiever.' 3 Giannis Antetokounmpo holds the Larry O'Brien trophy and the MVP trophy after the Bucks' NBA championship win on July 20, 2021. Getty Images 3 Stephen A. Smith (l.) talks to Malika Andrews (r.) during 'NBA Countdown' before Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Oklahoma City on June 16, 2025. NBAE via Getty Images Smith, in his retort, argued that he had called Antetokounmpo 'one of the greatest players to have ever lived' while firing back at Williams. 'I'm entitled to call your take asinine,' Smith said. 'As a matter of fact, it's a bit worse than that because you're ill-informed, because clearly you didn't listen to what I had to say. Maybe you were stuck in traffic, maybe you were negotiating another business deal, maybe you were doing another one of your shows because you are a very, very busy and successful man. But you didn't listen to my full take. 'I specifically stated that Giannis was one of the greatest players to have ever lived, and Giannis is phenomenal. Giannis is going to go down as one of the all-time greats. But when you're that great and you have one championship on your resume, people are not going to look at you the same.'

Tyrese Haliburton's calf is ruining a perfect NBA Finals

Tyrese Haliburton's calf is ruining a perfect NBA Finals Tyrese Haliburton says he's going to play in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, saying he's waited his whole life for this. Here he is walking off with a limp. — Tomer Azarly (@TomerAzarly) June 17, 2025 The 2025 NBA Finals have had just about everything a basketball fan could want: explosive performances from the biggest stars on the court, game-winning shots in the clutch, big moments from the league's Most Valuable Player. Now, it also has the one thing absolutely no one wanted to see: A crucial injury that might just change the series. Tyrese Haliburton didn't have a single field goal in Game 5 against the Thunder on Monday night. You just look at the box score and it seems like the player who has been the most clutch performer in NBA postseason history just disappeared in the moment. But there's more context to it than that. Haliburton aggravated an apparent right calf injury on the same leg on which he had ankle soreness last week, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. He'd injured it again when falling as he tried to drive his way into the paint early in the game. From that point forward, he just didn't look the same as he had all series. He didn't have the same explosiveness. He couldn't generate the paint touches to keep Indy's offense churning. He just ... looked like a guy out there. Considering how good he's been for the last month, it sucked to watch. This could legitimately change the series. Hali was seen walking with a limp after his postgame press conference. Calf injuries are no joke. You can work on them, but they don't just go away after a few days' rest. That's all the Pacers and Haliburton have to work with, with Game 6 set for Thursday. This injury will be a factor. Don't get it twisted — Haliburton says he's playing. This isn't enough to keep him out of the biggest game of his career so far. But, honestly, seeing how it hampered him in Game 4, you can't feel great about that if you're a Pacers fan. The series isn't over, by any means. Even with Haliburton's injury, the Pacers cut the lead down to two points in the middle of the fourth quarter. Pascal Siakam was awesome. TJ McConnell did some magical work in Haliburton's stead, too. Not saying you can rely on him to do that every night, but the Pacers only need to win one game to make it a Game 7. In the meantime, Indy needs to do whatever it takes to make that calf OK. Massages, stretches, devil magic. Whatever it takes. Just get it right so we get a good Game 6. My villain origin story Shoutout to Jalen Williams, who scored 40 points in the biggest game of his career last night. He's just the fifth player in NBA history to score 40 points in an NBA Finals game before turning 25 years old. He's legitimately gotten better with each game in these Finals so far. You can make an argument that, at times, he's been the best player on the court while sharing the floor with the NBA's MVP. He was really getting buckets on Monday night. Jalen Williams Finals 40-ball — Brett Usher (@UsherNBA) June 17, 2025 Now, imagine watching that, then having to go to sleep, realizing you have to live with the fact that your favorite basketball team drafted Johnny Davis over this guy. This is why I am the way I am. Shohei Ohtani is not real Shohei Ohtani is the embodiment of video game numbers. He made his pitching debut with the Dodgers on Monday night, taking the mound for the first time since August of 2023. You'd think, considering that he hadn't pitched in a game for so long, that Ohtani would take it easy. Nope. Complete opposite. The dude came out here throwing complete gas. Here's a summary of his outing from Charles Curtis: "This year? He's hit 25 dingers, but he's now adding pitching back slowly. He threw one inning, giving up a run and two hits with no strikeouts. But this is just the beginning for the uber-athlete. And here's the wild thing: dude threw triple digits in that first start. Imagine what he'll do when he's fully stretched out." Thirteen of his pitches clocked over 98 miles per hour. Here's the 100 mph joint: Shohei Ohtani has 13 pitches over 98+ MPH in his first appearance of 2025. He also topped 100.2 MPH He hasn't pitched in 22 months…. — Running From The OPS (@OPS_BASEBALL) June 17, 2025 This guy is a monster. Quick hits: The NFL's most important newcomers ... What is the Superior Player Award at the Club World Cup, and who picks its winners?

The expanded Club World Cup began in the United States this week, to a mixed reception. The tournament, which has drawn large crowds to some matches and left thousands of empty seats at others, now features 32 teams from across the globe, a trophy that requires a key to be 'opened' and minor tweaks to how football is officiated. Advertisement It also includes a series of tweaks to how the sport is presented, both during TV broadcasts and in the stadiums. Players are given individual walk-on announcements before kick-off, similar to at NBA games (where there are just five starters per side, not 11), while the implementation of Ref Cam allows armchair viewers a new perspective during goal highlights. Ref cam's of Neto's goal is AMAZING 🤯Watch the @FIFACWC | June 14 – July 13 | Every game. But why the name change? Who chooses its winners? And how does it compare to other competition awards? The Superior Player Award is the Club World Cup's version of what is usually referred to as the man-of-the-match award, given out at the end of games. The name change is, predictably, for commercial reasons; Michelob Ultra is the award's sponsor and an advert for the American beer brand can be seen before kick-off at Club World Cup matches, featuring Inter Miami star Lionel Messi in a hotel lobby pulling off football tricks. The advert's tagline — superior is worth playing for — is shared by the award. Messi has previously featured in a commercial for the beer that aired during the Super Bowl. A 2024 advert features him playing football on the beach alongside Ted Lasso actor Jason Sudeikis and legendary NFL quarterback Dan Marino. Michelob has also sponsored full-time player awards at the most recent Concacaf Champions Cup and the 2024 Copa America. Both tournaments were held in the United States, with the company seeking to increase market visibility and solidify its brand association with soccer. Michelob will also be a visible sponsor of the 2028 Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles. The Player of the Match awards at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar were sponsored by Budweiser and marked the first men's World Cup where the name was changed from man of the match. The majority of FIFA tournaments across men's and women's competitions now refer to the trophy as Player of the Match. The 2023 Women's World Cup saw the Player of the Match award sponsored by VISA. The Superior Player of the Match trophy is awarded by public vote. Between the 60th and 88th minute of every Club World Cup match, viewers are invited to select the best player via the FIFA+ platform, working in a similar manner to Player of the Match Awards at the 2022 World Cup. The #FIFACWC is here! The world's best all on one stage. Every game, YOU get to decide who's worthy of the #MichelobULTRA Superior Player of the Match trophy. Voting opens every game —who's rising to the top?@MichelobULTRA | @playformichelob | @MichelobULTRACA There is a maximum of one vote per person, per Club World Cup match. Anyone over the age of 18 can participate in the contest provided they are registered, regardless of viewing location. Guinness is the official beer of the Premier League, and sponsors the league's Goal of the Month competition, as voted by fans. Coca-Cola serves as the Premier League's official soft drink partner and sponsors the Save of the Month award. Individual Player of the Match awards are voted for by fans on the official Premier League website and mobile app within 15 minutes of the full-time whistle. In 2012, the Premier League stopped awarding champagne along with Man of the Match awards, out of respect for the religious beliefs of some players. In recent years, winning teams have moved to celebrate trophy lifts and other occasions with non-alcoholic 'champagne'. The Club World Cup's opening game saw Inter Miami's 0-0 draw with Egyptian side Al Ahly, and veteran Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari was awarded the Superior Player Award after saving a crucial penalty. The award has since been handed to Michael Olise (Bayern Munich), Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain, see lead image), Estevao Willian (Palmeiras), Igor Jesus (Botafogo), Pedro Neto (Chelsea), Miguel Merentiel (Boca Juniors) and Giorgian de Arrascaeta (Flamengo). As well as each match having a Superior Player Award, the Club World Cup will hand out the following: The Club World Cup's winning team will also be awarded a golden emblem, which they can display on their club shirts until the 2029 edition.
