Avengers: Doomsday And Secret Wars Postponed. New Release Dates Out

Fans of Marvel's Avengers franchise will have to wait a little longer for the upcoming team-up films. Marvel Studios has delayed the releases of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is now scheduled to release on December 18, 2026, moving from its original date of May 1, 2026 - a delay of about seven months.
To stay aligned with the updated schedule, Avengers: Secret Wars has also been pushed back and will now release on December 17, 2027, instead of its previously announced date of May 7, 2027.
Disney confirmed both delays on Thursday afternoon as part of a larger reshuffle of its upcoming theatrical release calendar.
The new schedule also includes the removal of several unannounced Marvel titles. A film previously slated for February 13, 2026, labelled as Untitled Marvel, has been taken off the calendar.
Two other dates - November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027 - once set for untitled Marvel features, are now listed as Untitled Disney films.
With these changes, Avengers: Doomsday and Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day are now the only confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe releases for 2026.
Additionally, there will be no theatrical Marvel release between The Fantastic 4: First Steps, scheduled for July 25, 2025, and the fourth installment of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, set for July 31, 2026 - a gap of over a year.
Doomsday and Secret Wars are major productions for Marvel Studios and are among the most anticipated projects in the franchise. The films are expected to feature the return of Robert Downey Jr, not as Iron Man, but in the role of Doctor Doom.
They will also bring together characters from various Marvel teams, including the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and even members of the X-Men universe, such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Production on Doomsday has reportedly ramped up in recent weeks. Downey recently shared a photo of himself with fellow cast members as they went to watch Thunderbolts in support of their Marvel colleagues.

Although, later on, David says, 'I want to go back to a time when I thought everything would work out for me,' so it's unclear whether they can control their destinations. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey seems to revolve around the theme of companionship and choosing to be happy in one's life. Although the film allows them to go into their past and maybe learn from it, David's last dialogue in the trailer is about accepting one's reality and sharing it with someone. He says, 'No matter who you are in your life, you just need someone to share it with.' Apart from Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, the cast of the film also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Billy Magnussen, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith and Yuvi Hecth.

When James Cameron was making Titanic in the mid-1990s, reports of its extravagant budget had taken Hollywood by surprise. The film cost $200 million to make, and millions more were spent on its publicity and marketing. It took a windfall at the box office to ensure that Titanic did not sink (pun intended). So, imagine a film that is costing its makers several times more, and has a $250-million budget for cast salaries alone. The new most expensive film ever made is a gargantuan project that may put infrastructural undertakings to shame. Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) upcoming crossover event film Avengers: Doomsday will soon have the title of the world's most expensive film. Collider recently reported that Marvel has spent $8 million on its pre-production alone, more than thrice what was spent on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which eventually cost $388 million. Forbes also reported that the per-week production cost of Doomsday is twice as much as Quantumania, which has led to experts predicting that the film could cost Marvel Studios anything between $500-600 million. This is much higher than the production cost of Star Wars Episode IX, which currently holds the record with a production cost of $447 million. Various reports have estimated that the two Avengers films—Doomsday and Secret Wars—could cost Disney and Marvel $1 billion each. Until Secret Wars begins production, this makes Avengers: Doomsday the most expensive movie ever. The cost of Avengers: Doomsday includes a heady dose of VFX, but is ballooned by its exorbitant cast. As many as 35 A-listers are to appear in the film in roles of varying lengths. Variety reported that cast salaries alone can cross $250 million for the film. If Doomsday does touch the landing cost of $1 billion as predicted, it needs to be a massive success at the box office just to be profitable. After including the distribution costs, the film would need to earn substantially more than $1 billion to break even. This means even if Doomsday earns more than blockbusters like Jurassic Park ($912 million) and the Lord of the Rings films (average gross of $987 million for the three films), it may end up being a box office failure. Directed by the Russo Brothers, Doomsday will be the fifth Avengers film and the 39th film in the MCU overall.
