NADM Recovers RM123 Million In Unremitted Revenue Following Audit Act Amendment

PUTRAJAYA, May 27 (Bernama) -- The National Audit Department (NADM) has recovered approximately RM123 million in previously unpaid revenues since the amendment to the Audit Act 1957 (Act 62), which came into force last year, said Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.
She said the department has also tracked incomplete infrastructure projects that have been carried out in coordination with the auditors.
'..after the Act was amended, we have been able to follow through on a lot of the issues highlighted in previous reports (The Auditor-General's Report).
'We have followed up on about RM123 million in unpaid revenues. We have followed up on infrastructure that was not done, through various platforms that we have with our auditors,' she said at the ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025 here today.
Wan Suraya was one of the panelists for the high-level dialogue session titled Enhancing Public Sector Auditing Through Follow-Up Audit, moderated by Deputy Auditor-General Azman Mahmood.
The other two panellists were the Philippines' Commission on Audit Chairperson Gamaliel Asis Cordoba and Indonesia's Audit Board Director General of Audit VII Pranoto.
Wan Suraya added that the revised Act empowers the Auditor-General to take action on issues or make formal recommendations when serious irregularities are uncovered.
'I just like to flag that out because this is within the ambit of the new power. The other point I would like to highlight is that what we are trying to drive through now is the enhanced accountability through Parliament, since our reports are also debated there.
'This process ensures transparency and compels relevant ministries and agencies to justify their responses or inaction. This is a clear focus on turning findings into measurable action. We want to know what they are going to do to fix whatever deficiencies or inefficiencies are identified in the report,' she added.

Hun Manet Briefs Anwar On Cambodia-Thai Border Dispute

'Cambodia continues to maintain relations between the two countries through all existing mechanisms for the mutual benefit of the two peoples,' he told Anwar, who is the chair of ASEAN this year.

MCMC Clarifies Mobile Phone Data Collection Amid Media Reports, Ensures Privacy
KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has clarified its collection of mobile phone data (MPD) from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), assuring that no Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is accessed, processed, or disclosed. The clarification comes amid recent media reports regarding the matter. In a statement today, MCMC said MPD was used strictly for the generation of official statistics to support evidence-based policymaking in two key domains, namely the ICT Sector and the Tourism Sector. For the ICT Sector, MPD helps produce granular statistics, such as the number of active mobile broadband subscriptions and penetration rates at the state, district, mukim, parliamentary constituency, state legislative assembly (DUN), and local authority levels. For the Tourism Sector, it generates indicators such as the number of visitors and domestic tourism trips. 'The MPD data requested from MNOs is anonymised and contains no PII. 'In addition, MNOs are given the option to either process the MPD data within their own secure environment and submit the required anonymised and aggregated output to MCMC, or, for MNOs without in-house processing capabilities, to submit the anonymised data to MCMC for processing. 'In both cases, no individual subscriber can be identified through the data collected,' it said. MCMC further clarified that the use of MPD as a new source of national statistics was a strategic direction set by the government to strengthen the quality and timeliness of statistical outputs for policy and planning purposes. Implementation of MPD is through collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the UN Committee of Experts on Big Data and Data Science, it added. Over the past two years, MCMC said extensive engagement with all MNOs had been carried out to ensure mutual understanding of the data requirements, processes, and privacy safeguards.
