Lautaro Martínez calls out team saying 'whoever does not want to stay should go' in Club World Cup
'Whoever wants to stay, stay; whoever does not want to stay should go,' Martínez told DAZN after the match. 'I have seen a lot of things that I didn't like. I want to win.'
The forward's comments come after an 11 monthlong season where they ended runners-up in both the Champions League and the Serie A.
Inter Milan appointed former defender Cristian Chivu as head coach following their 5-0 Champions League final defeat just before the Club World Cup.
The new coach supported Martínez's harsh assessment of the team.
The Brazilian side's victory continues South American clubs' strong showing in the tournament, with Fluminense becoming the second Brazilian team to reach the quarterfinal.
Fluminense's Everaldo celebrated the victory as validation of South American football's quality.

The 27th seed double-faulted 11 times and won just 53 per cent of his second-serve points. Navone, ranked No. 41 in the world, broke Shapovalov six times in the match. It's Shapovalov's earliest exit at the All England Club since 2019. Fellow Canadians Leylah Fernandez, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo remain in singles competition. Fernandez, of Laval, Que., faces Laura Siegemund on Wednesday, while Montreal's Auger-Aliassime meets Jan-Lennard Struff, and Diallo, also of Montreal, awaits the winner between No. 5 Taylor Fritz and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. No. 5 seed Zheng Qinwen loses at Wimbledon in first round again
LONDON (AP) — Zheng Qinwen became the second top-five seed to lose in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday when the Olympic gold medalist fell to Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. The 22-year-old Chinese player was the No. 5 seed at the All England Club and her loss came hours after third-seeded Jessica Pegula was upset by Elisabetta Cocciaretto. It was Zheng's third straight first-round exit at Wimbledon. Siniakova is a three-time doubles champion at the All England Club, including winning last year alongside Taylor Townsend. Siniakova has won 10 major doubles titles — seven with Barbora Krejcikova, two with Townsend, and one with Coco Gauff at last year's French Open. Krejcikova got her Wimbledon singles title defense off to a winning start Tuesday. Siniakova will face four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the second round. Wimbledon: Defending champ Barbora Krejcikova comes back to beat Alexandra Eala of the Philippines
LONDON (AP) — Barbora Krejcikova needed a comeback to avoid becoming the second consecutive Wimbledon women's champion to lose in the first round a year later at the All England Club, eventually eliminating 56th-ranked Alexandra Eala of the Philippines 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at Centre Court on Tuesday. From the start of the Open era in 1968 through 2023, only one reigning women's champ was defeated in the first round at Wimbledon: Steffi Graf in 1994. But it happened last year to Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic — whose title in 2023 made her the first unseeded woman to leave the All England Club with the singles trophy — and there were moments early Tuesday that it appeared it might happen again this year to the 17th-seeded Krejcikova, another Czech player and the French Open champion in 2021. Eala is a 20-year-old left-hander who was competing at a Grand Slam tournament for only the second time. She lost in the first round at Roland-Garros in May. Eala is the only woman representing the Philippines to compete in the main draw of Wimbledon in the Open era. She signed with an agent when she was just 13 and honed her tennis skills at the Rafael Nadal Academy, getting advice from the 22-time major title winner who retired at the end of last season. Eala was seeking what would have been her fourth top-20 victory of 2025. She grabbed attention at the Miami Open by getting past 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, Australian Open champion Madison Keys and former No. 1 and five-time major champ Iga Swiatek en route to the semifinals.
